Notes:
I survived the turnset, didn't lose any cities, got a sword army and there will be 5 new swords in 5 turns
Lost 3 units a vet archer my *elite sword and a vet horse
Suggest full military mode for a while

I concur on the military mode. Since we know where the GL is, I suggest using the sword army to slowly bite off chunks of persia until well into the IA, then a Glib catapult.
We want hwatcha and cavs, everything else can wait for the Glib, so I would do that.
I would use the sword army and a few spare swords to at least take 3-4 cities from persia near our core in this war.

this one looks tough, will play tomorrow morning, hope we can survive, full military for now

actually, taking Persia with the sword army can flip this game on it's head. hopefully, some of the others will sign peace soon.

edit: I'm out of town this afternoon till Sunday night

just looked at the save, it looks pretty bleak in my mind, we have very few units and are at war with 4 Civs. This can turn very ugly. So, a major war would be good but not fighting 4 Civs at the same time with hardly any military, even the army is still filled with 2 swords only

During my turn only 1 civ actually showed up for the war even though there were 4 wars. Do we know we have 4 civs attacking us? 4 civs is only scary if they are doing something. I was hoping we could do holding actions against civs that were actually around when we go for Persia. We probably will only be defending at first though - we have to handle the Persian influx. The most dangerous time is right now. If we can survive intact to the end of your turns, ThERat, I suspect we can then look into doing the "major damage".

Building up units will make the AI more likely to make peace. Lets get as many units as we can so the demands stop and we can get peace from the AI.

During my turnset we are being attacked by all 4
Persia has sent horses imortals and archers
Sumer has sent EW settler pairs and MI
Inca sends their scout and warriors in groups of 3
Hittities sends warriors and archers in groups of 3

save

Pre-Turn
reduce lux to 10%, there is no need for 20%, maybe it's the war declaration war happiness
with republic, we do not need any MP's, shuffle units to counter Persia
attack Persian settler pair get 2 more slaves
reduce science quite a bit, feudalism still in 2

IT Sumer pulls in Arabs and we fight 5 Civ's

1. 70AD
I rather stay defensive than expose our few swords

IT beat a Persian immortal on defense and Hittite warrior, lose spear to Sumer MDI
get feudalism and all the sword builds are upgraded and delayed

2. 90AD
defeat 4 Persian units including a settler pair, there are too many unit and we have almost nothing to defend, looks hopeless to me

IT lose newly promoted pike and warrior in Pyongyang, in the end a 2hp army is left there
2 more cities are left with 1hp units defending, this one was a close shave os a loss

B]3. 110AD[/B]
defeat 3 units and can only pray for superior RnG luck

IT can't ask for more, lose a horse, but defend against 4 units and 1hp spear gets us a MGL on defense
it will form an MDI army

4. 130AD
defeat Persian archer, fully healed army defeats AC and horse
fill 2nd army with 1 MDI

IT Sumer units now get towards Narjan

5. 150AD
MDI army with 2 units inside goes towards western Persian town

IT 2 unit MDI army attacked by LB but survives but badly beaten

6. 170AD
this is too tough, no units but need to defend quite some substantial Sumer units around
defeat 2 Persian units

IT Hittites want to talk at least, but want all our gold for peace, we can't do that
defeat 3 units ondefense, lose none

7. 190AD
defeat Sumer MDI with army

IT defend against 2 units and Sumer wants to talk, this is the lucky break we need
rat05190.jpg

now Persian shall feel our wrath

8. 210AD
sword army takes out 2 immortals, but is badly wounded

IT no attacks this time

9. 230AD
attack and raze Ergili in the west, defeat Hittite spear

IT Persian AC defeats pike

10. 250AD
defeat 2 persian LB in our hinterland, rest sword army, next turn we can think about offensive actions against Persia
use welite MDI to attack immortal and we get another leader

since we have now 2 armies. I feel we need to take the GL, went for mono so we can get knights
we could build a town now in the west to fill that void, but better have more units (we need 2 more cities for 3rd army)
we were very lucky this time round

In another thread, Sanabas posted that he was out of pocket for 72 hours.
Nice cover, we should be good for now.
If you haven't figured it out, I love to fly by the seat of my pants, and this game is providing it nicely. I do not think that a GL early capture is our best option, but will accept it if the team wants it.

you are right about sanabas, so Greebley is up

well, well, this game was almost lost during my turns

Your right, from my turnset the AI was at Invention and capturing it now will be like we built it ourselfs.
What we want to do is take/raze all cities but Persepolis somehow get peace and declare later when the AI is in the Industrial Age. Then Persia will still be in the Middle Ages and the city will be manageable.
If we are planning this we should turn off research soon.

I just want to bump this, I guess Greebley doesn't think he is up so soon, I know he is up in Gr7 and that will take time, so I suggest this for now:

The Roster
The Rat - just played
grahamiam - out until Sunday night, plays once he is back
sanabas - out until Sunday night as well
Greebley
romeothemonk - take it of you are free

Preturn: No changes. I am staying on Military. This is a tough variant. I am glad we aren't playing AW though. This way we get some breaks from the wars. Pure AW with us surrounded by foes would mean death I think.

IBT: We lose an Archer and a Pike.

260 AD: Kill 2 Immortals, Chasi scout, Archer. Bombard Hittite Archers.

270 AD: Kill another Scout. Armies heal while waiting for Immortals to step into our lands.

IBT: Inca talk to us. We can make peace for 2 gpt and 4 gold. Done.

280 AD: There are a lot of Immortals to deal with. Persia is definitely applying pressure on us. Keeping us on full Military and hoping I can keep our cities and maybe do something at some point

290 AD: Persia has Knights. Not happy with that at all.

300 AD: On top of everything else we are getting bad RNG. MDI keep losing fights that we should be winning.

IBT: Make peace with the Arabs even though it costs us a bit.

310 AD: Kill some more units.

IBT: Sumeria allies against us with Persia.

320 AD: Still holding off Persia and killing random Hittite Archers.

IBT: Persia still has a lot of troops.

330 AD: Healing for next round which may be touch.

340 AD: Kill several units. Lose yet another MDI. Not sure I am actually gaining ground here.

IBT: We gain a Leader on defense.

350 AD: We cannot form a 3rd Army - we don't have 12 towns. I rush Heroic Epic instead.

Notes:
We built one settler to try to grab the spot near our lands.
No forward progress on Persia yet.
I am trying to build some Trebs so we don't lose so many units and can start making progress.
I tried to keep WW low. Mostly the few units lost on our side, though there were some enemy attacks as well. We are not suffering yet. I also hooked up the silks.
Seoul is MM'ed for gold. Make sure you switch it to shields next turn.

Sumer is in the war game again, that's tough. I think we have to somehow get Persia to sign peace.

We should try to get 12 cities for a 3rd army.

I would build a city on the rubble on the coast, and then another one where the sumer MDI sits.
