Rat 40 - Introduction to CCM

You get use to it, they are not doing any damage and once you get 8-10 Zeps they can be driven off pretty well. I have one SF that sunk one, so if you can keep it afloat, it can pick off one once in a while.

Most of the towns are using all the tiles they can and the tiles are all fully improved. The lessor towns, I would not sweat. The big issue will be food. Some are just gong to have to starve from time to time as you cannot get them on even numbers, unless you give up an improvement.

IOW you would have to forest a mine or an irrigated tile. It take 20 turns to starve, so just let it happen. The easiest way to check towns is to just do it when they finish a build, for those that are not already maxed out.

Actually I just got back from a 10 day vacation and had a lot of promised chores to handle. I'll be starting tonight about 6:30pst.
 
4.5 hrs in and 2 1/2 turns later. Loving these Hotchkiss (Hots). We have around 112 now. Lots shipping. Rotterdam and Gronigan in hand and Amsterdam next. We are 2 overpowering. Radio in 2 and then it looks like Ironclads, torpedos or Fascism?
This may take until early Sat morn or I can turn over Friday night where I am at. Turns should go quicker now. Swapping units to upgrade took some time and 300 workers is a chore.

Since Fascism gives us nothing we can use, and the next four techs other than Fascism only naval units, the order of our choices isn't too important now. I'd take Ironclads.

I'll mention that our plan was to revolt to communism once our GA has ended, which I assume has just happened. (If lurkers are puzzled about the math, we get a twenty-five-turn GA in CCM.) We hardly need to change governments to win the game, but OTOH we want to explore as many options as possible.

This is true but to get to a lot of the other good military techs you have to go through fascism.
I like the Ironclads too though to rid us of those pesky cheap enemy naval units.
 
Maybe we can take the naval techs first and then check whether someone is fascist and steal that tech from them?

Yes, but we can't get to the good techs beyond Fascism without also first getting the four naval techs under discussion. Great War Experience is the chokepoint there. So Fascism should come last of the five, unless we steal it as Rat suggests.

Wow, 122 cities and only 26%! 1 turn from combustion making 2156 gpt. Light bombers and the Hotchkiss coming up. Should we call these Hotties or Hots? Looks like all the Hussars that are on this continent are grouped up in Teo waiting for upgrades. Steal Italian and Greek maps to show the balance of this continent. I think I’ll get the Persian war started after taking Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague and destroying Utrecht in the hills. Gronigan and Middleburg (pop 2) can be cleaned up after absorbing Persia’s initial onslaught which will be on flat land. Go around ID’ing Hussars for upgrades coming up. One turn could last all night though and I’ll pick them up as I go. Got about 25 of the 61 we own. Rushed a few near completes. All happy OK.

IT- We win one battle near Rotterdam. Man I have to remember to check preferences. With enemy animation off I can’t follow if they have a landing.

We get combust and go Radio. Torpedo, Ironclads and Fascism are all that are left for now.

We can now build Hots 9.5.3, Early Tanks 12.5.2 and a Handley Page bomber 0.2.12 with bombard of 8. There is also a weak bi-plane. Since we will have a tech lead for a while I like the bombers but not the bi-plane. Bombers will fly uncontested for a while. I’m going to pile them up (30 of them or so) in half the productive cities and enemy cities will fall easily. Hots and tanks on the new continent along with bombers and we should be able to take cities quickly.

In Teo I mass upgrade 27 Hussars for 3240g. France and Israel still lack Corporation.
Use a Yogi to take down a cannon gurding the road to Rotter and a Lawyer to bag a Cav. No dice on Culture bomb units. I didn’t find any, the F3 does not show any but I don’t think that works correctly for some of the units.
Just found out Cavalry up grade to Hots too. I already have a pack of cav heading to Rotter.
We have 87 Hots, 52 cav and 21 Hussars.
Can’t figure out why I can’t investigate Perseopolis? Wanted to take a look at the defense there for future reference. I can steal map if I wanted but can not look at city. Can look at other Civ’s cities?
Realized we also need more Rifles to sit in cities.

France and Israel still lack Corporation.
1 retreat, 4 losses and we take Rotterdam and 69g. Excited about this movement I get greedy and take Gronigen with the hots.
Our 1st Hot victory was nice. Took railroad up and attacked a cav on NO road, retreated back to railroad and made it to Rotterdam and can fortify. LOT of movement there.
27 cav, 18 hussars and 112 hots and5 tanks, 4 bombers.

Amsterdam falls losing 2 hots. 78g to us. 1 resister of 15. The culture is daunting.
We take The Hague with 3 losses. If we had the workers to rail to each conquered cities borders we could probably take 6 cities a turn..
Adjusting so I can declare on Persia next time and hopefully take Xerxes capital to open the battle. It looks like we can take Pasargadae too.I see Persia and Italy have an MPP so It will be a 2 front battle. Persia has 22 cities and Italy has 18. Greece, the other on this continent has 11. I’m thinking MPP with Greece so that when Italy comes calling. It will be nice to have have Italy and hopefully Persia having their backside to cover.
In preparation for this I pull a move I haven’t in a while. Since it still won’t let me investigate Perseopolis I steal plans for 4100g.
I am saving right here so all can have a look but he is weak for 22 cities.

We have about 58 Hots and 5 tanks in the immediate vicinity with another 40 or so I can get in country at the start of war.We have a lot of steamers waiting in Sao Paolo to ferry the others over.

This war will also coincide with a change to Communism (short)

Thanks for posting the midway save--always fun to see, and especially with all the Persians' units revealed.

Sure, go ahead and attack Persia on your schedule. Attacking 1900 inf in large cities with Kisses may be bloody, but we should be able to overwhelm them, and anyway waiting won't help.

I hardly see any preparations being made for us to take the two Persian cities on the northern island, though. This has to begin at once, with naval builds replacing the mostly irrelevant builds now going in the Spanish ports, and then probably a lot of rushing.

We have seven cav in Tlatelolco that we can upgrade to Kisses.

The royal barracks we're building in various places should be changed, since they'll disappear in communism.
 
Don't forget to deal with the Roman towns on our mainland and they had 3 units moving towards one of the towns.

Rummaging on the home continent for all the troops I can possibly ship over to the front.
With the rail-net up I’ll leave about 10 troops to handle any landings and a single troop in any city. Descend into anarchy towards commie as planned by group.
Ship another 8 steamers worth of troops and workers to front.

IT – Nothing from Holland or Inca but the French land 4 troops between Vancouver and Calgary. I didn’y need this.

4) 1801AD

Since France and Israel are right next to each other I get an MPP with Israel for coal and wine and put a unit right in front of his troops.
Get the MPP with Greece for Nationalism.
Capture Dutch Middleburg with no losses and lose 5 Kisses/ retreat 3 to kill 3 muskets on a hill town taking Utrech and eliminating the Dutch. That was rougher than I thought.
Consolidate the troops and wait out the anarchy.

5) 1802 AD
Take care of the 4 french troops. The flamethrower guy is pretty cool looking. Italy wandered into our lands on the home continent but retreat when told to leave.
Radio in 3 at 70%. We make 948gpt.
Go around and get a lot of Commie barracks built and rush one in Amsterdam. Prep for Persia

IT

The French drop off 2 units for fodder. Message about a Five Year Plan. Lots of barracks and more ordered up.

6) 1803AD

Was going to declare but see that both Amsterdam and The Hague will culture expand in 2. If I sneak attack the Kisses can get to X in one swoop but realize that if I declare they would only end up on the front door. So more prep. Drop science to 60% for Radio in 2. Swap to 5 year plan in capital. Increase shield output by 75%. Can only be built in capital. All cavs are now Kisses.

IT

Persia pulls a cool looking ocean liner out of Antioch. Must be that Riband Wonder. 5 year plan now gives Angkor 204 spt.

7) 1804AD
Saw Persia running through our lands and now see we have a silks deal and ROP with him for 11 turns.
We don’t have a horse in our empire. 112 1900’s and 146 Kisses with 11 tanks.

IT

Radio > Ironclads in 4 at 70%. A Persian lawyer attacks Amsterdam

9) 1805

We lawyer back and get a great artist. Get another artist from a Persian Longbow. Blow 3 French ships out of the water trying to land in Canada again. Start INTL Telephone Corp in Angkor due in 3 turns. Well, I don’t want to declare on Persia and bust the reputation so we devlare on Italy and will have to weather the storm. Shoot I just saw tht Persia and Italy no longer have a MPP. Guess we’re switching up and I’ll knock down Italy.
Tske one of the 2 towns on our southern shores. The other will go down next turn.
Take Livorno on other continent.
We capture Milan which has the Roman Senate which allows healing in enemy terrirory. NICE! Oh but it is obsolete.
Also clobber a bunch of stray units. Lose about 7 Kisses.

IT

Persians declare on us! Greece declares on Persia. Israel and Greece declare on Italy.
Persia kills 2 1900’s but mainly just run around. Italy attacks and loses about 2-1 with their old units.

10) 1806AD
We rid our home continent of Italy.
Take Venice and culture bomb it.
Get a MGL in Italy. Rush a barracks in Venice.
Take Dariush Kabir from X. It came with a RAX

It's really late. I started 8 hours ago. Whew!

wow, nice progress...good to see some wars started. We should try and get the second continent fast then prepare for the next one which will be a far bigger undertaking.

The governments communism and fascism are immun to city investigation. In the next biq, theocracy will be immun to it, too.

Looking at the gamespeed, I´m wondering, if the normally produced settlers for "filler-cities" (and these "filler-cities") are really needed.

Combat settlers make the tactical part of the game more interesting, and that's particularly important in the technical phase, when the game is clearly won but there's still a lot of work to do. So I'd keep normally produced settlers.

It's possible that you concern yourself too much with game speed. As Vmxa has suggested, people who play huge Civ variants are used to long interturns, and most have good computers.
 
I see. In the next mainfile and biq v1.5 there is a fast "combat settler" (MV 2). :)
