Rat16 - warmongers go immortal

I figured better any (halfway decent) second city, than no second city for an unknown amount of time. But you may be right. I think i'll produce a few warriors during my turns and send them fogbusting to the corn&pig site.
See how it goes. And if it is reasonably safe, settle there.

I think I would go for Corn and the Pigs next. If we build on the forest we don't need an expansion to get them both.

I think we can make Pottery work by increasing our Commerce. We can build cottages on the floodplains. It gets us the techs faster and we will have more of the techs we need sooner. The terrain isn't ideal for cottage building, but since we got the tech we should use it to get needed techs faster. We don't need shields as much at this point.

I would go for Archery next as mentioned.

I am usually a fan of growing quickly at the start. Get several towns laid down and start them growing. It means you have more cities long term which I find is stronger than trying to deal with the AI with just a few cities. Not sure how this would pan out at Immortal however. Given the lack of Copper, it seems to make sense to me since we are not going to do a fast run on the enemy. It also maximizes our chances of getting Iron.

Switch research to Hunting+Archery.
Meet Kublai. He's a Hindu.
Whip barracks.
Our warrior finds a barb city in the south, before a patrolling archer arrests him for being topless. Haven't heard of him since.

Learn Archery and switch back to Iron working.
I think we found a nice location for city number 2. It has pigs&corn&fish.
Found York.

We built our first first archer. And not a turn too early, it seems. Two archers are closing in on London.

I think the best move is to move either the warrior or the archer on that forest tile and hope the barb attacks.
Note that one barb is (*) and the other (**) promoted.
An archer could be whipped in London, but it would result in unhappiness.

we better have some iron or else we are in trouble

York is a nice location actually

Quiiet turn

We killed the Barbarians but they pillaged the mine

I built a worker and started another settler. I would chop a forest (or two?) to hurry the settler and then go for the iron. The settler could grab the gold and start building up the floodplains nearby.

We are going for Animal Husbandry for the Pigs. After that I find heading for Monarchy and larger towns a tempting prospect.

York is on settler to keep from growing. Would a worker be better? It can make settlers fast when we get the pigs up and running. Both cities are at happiness limit, but also have been oppressed.

unfortunately the AI is pretty far away, otherwise I wouldn't build so many cities ourselevses but take a capital via axe/sword rush. On this high a level those early rushes have shown to be really great.
Now, let's get a worker up before another settler.

On immortal I found alphabet a real killer tech for trading . Somehow the AI shuns it. Shall we head for writing / alpha after AH.

Roster
ThERat - up
Gotag
Till
Greebley
acidsatyr - skipped

we also have to decide where we put down the next 2 cities. I would suggest to head south. We can always settle the northeast later, once the AI has crawled their way up.
I would go for the flood plain gold site next

I agree on the suggested research path and the location of the next city, but i wouldn't wait too long to settle that gold city.
We have plenty of food, so happiness is the limiting factor for growth.

At least we have iron and near the capital to boot.

Yeah that FP+gold site is pretty important and should be grabbed next. Happy is always good.

The Mongels have 9 odd cities. Makes one humble...

save

played 20 turns as nothing much happened
founded the gold city, we will have it connected in 2 turns
we do have horses in the east and near York
however, York is already put under pressure by Khan (who has a very high score)

started alphabet but it will take another 20 turns currently
nobody has it yet

Give me a skip.

Anniversary tomorrow and we're having some work done on the house. Kinda swamped at the moment.

Gotag

York with fish + corn + pigs = great GP farm.
But for now its great place to whip axes/swords and rush Khan (thats his city
just south of york am i correct?).
I would base all our action at this point around that.

Got it. Yeah it is his city. It doesn't look like a keeper to me, though.
But i agree on going to war soon. Some pointy stick research is in order, or we'll fall further behind.

Early:
Judaism spreads to York. Kublai's city expands its borders and York is under heavy pressure now.

Around turn 6:

Alexander declares war on us!
He has 2 chariots and one axe in Mongol lands.
The axe dies while trying to caputre York. The chariots pillage the pigs between York and London.
Now a strange glitch happens:
I try to move an axe to the free tile next to the chariots.
Suddenly i get the message "Your axemen died while trying to attack a chariot" and the chariots beam to the tile where i wanted to move the axe to!
Afterwards they beam back to where they used to be, but leave their flag on the old tile.

I kill one chariot with another axe.

In the last turn Alex lands two more chariots. We are now dealing with 2 healthy and one injured chariot. York is cut off from iron.
London can whip an axeman. The archer in York is at full health with City Defender 1 promotion.
Our combat units haven't moved yet.

yes, greebley you are up...hmm this looks pretty bad already..rush an archer if possible. We need to turn this round soon

Preturn:
Nothing we can do. We have an ax and Archer to defend vs 3 Chariot.

IBT:
We win 2 chariot attacks. The last Chariot Pillages.

550 BC: Sword Defeats the last Chariot.

445 BC: Two more Chariots Land We kill them with an Axe on offense and Archer on defense.

Note: This is the last battle. We make peace a few turns later (straight up).

400 BC: We get Alphabet.

Unfortunately my records trade records were lost, but we got/researched Mathematics, Polytheism, Priesthood, Sailing, and maybe a few others.

Notes:

I cancelled trades with France and Persia for Egypt and Mongols respectively. Egypt vs Napolean was clear. I was less sure I should have cancelled Cyrus, but the Khan was pleased.

I feel we should definitely cultivate friendship with Egypt and accept her demands and such so we have at least one friend. Khan I am not so sure about but we can use him in the short turn.

War With Napolean I went to settle our horses and it was taken. I spent the rest of the turn setting up a war with Napolean. I stopped on the turn we can first decide to declare war. I think a war is necessary, though I am not sure we have enough defense in our cities. The city nearest Nap has an Archer with an Axe on its way and a Spear being built in the Capitol. I would consider rushing the Spear.

Note also we can declare war and only move the units we need to take out the Garrison forward. If we don't need the Spear it can go to defend the town.

I did a bit of rushing as our cities all have growth but not shields. Some towns are heavily burdened with WW, others are not.

Here is the picture. Should we declare war? I really don't know at immortal what the response would be:
