Rat16 - warmongers go immortal

got it, I think we should declare war. What we really need is monarchy for MP's. The unhappiness is no good and I can't see any happy resources around.

BTW, I was letting cities grow past their happy limit so that we can rush things. The towns are not well suited to being adjusted to no food surplus.

Though with Monarchy coming up, we may want to just keep the growth.

I would also build several archers just for defense, but mostly for MP.

wow Kublai is over 1k already! Probably since he's creative
As for war..damn, tuff situation, personally i'd wait for couple of more units b4 declaring but speed is important in civ4 ...

save

send our settler north to claim fish + gold

declared on Napoleon, he didn't even want to talk to us
autorazed that city, then marched south where we intercepted a settler trio for a free worker
marched on to Rheims defended by 4 units, used our warrior to lure one unit out which we took out :mischief:

got monarchy and revolted finally
traded that to Hatty for 380gold and mono
got calendar from Alex for that plus 70gold (1 more happy resources there)

set research to CoL, that few have

we have a settler in place in the east next to horses, our 6th city
on the last turn, lost 2 axes, but took Rheims

we are rich now with 607gold, can run 100% science for a while, we need to connect spices for +1 happy
would go for peace asap since our units are somewhat depleted
we will get a Great scientist, not sure which tech he would rush, but we should consider that trading is the best way here for us

good turns, seems napoleon had poor defense
I'd get philosophy from GS once we get CoL and eventually pacifism
anyone else has philosophy already?

Heh, two SGs at once and I'm having a ball with the latest RB epic. Much Civ among the concrete dust.

Gotag

Lets start a settler right away for those horses. I don't want to declare with every civ that shows up with a settler.

I would make this top priority before we lose the spot. We will be stronger with more cities and having a speed two unit also helps.

[Edit: Can we get a tech for peace?]

Greebley, maybe it wasn't clear from my post, but we have a settler hidden underneath the sword directly at the horses

Napoleon didn't want to talk yet, but soon I guess. Unfortunately we do not have many troops left to press on with the war.

In fact there is a nice Greek town to the eat of Rheims, looks like another nice target :mischief:

Mainly a builder turnset.

25BC

Bit of micro, since London is working the FP cottages we can swap the northern city back and forth between the corn and the iron to speed it along.

10BC Alex declares on Hep. We make peace with Nappy for 2gpt+80g. No way he is giving us currency which he is up on us. I cancel OB with Alex at Hep's request. I build our horsey city where Ratus left the Settler.

5AD to 50AD move and micro. We got a great scientist which I turn into compass. No one else has it and at 975 beakers it's as good as it would get for quite a while. Our next GS is due in 25 turns.

65AD Did some trades.

Compass to Hep for Lit + 80g which is what she offered. Could have gotten more but I think we should cultivate her.

Compass to Cyrus for Horseback +120g, all he had.

Compass + 100g to Khan for Currency.

We are now even or ahead of everyone but Khan (Theo and Metal) and Cyrus (Construction) Nap and Alex refuse to talk to us right now but they have jack anyway.

80 to 110AD passed quietly as we built up a bit. COL in on my last turn and I went Music but that is vetoable as it just started.

Bit of worker weed as I built a cottage NEXT to the damn Incence. Never dawned on me we had Calender. Plantation due in 2 turns I think.

PLEASE PLEASE note that just south of our french city are 2 workers just sitting there asking for English citizenship. We can declare in a couple of turns and grab them and take that french city OR we can grab the Greek one just north of it. Hitting the Greeks will make points with Hep.

Be very careful with Cyrus. I refused OB with him and we risk a war we don't want....... yet. We can always get OB to cheer him up but I think it makes Khan unhappy.

BTW we are ahead of Nappy now in score. Won't take much to smoke Alex.

We need more of everything.

Good Luck!!!

No one else has it and at 975 beakers it's as good as it would get for quite a while.

Actually, compass is a poor choice, since philosophy is 1950 beakers and is available right after CoL, and nobody has it. Pacifism would've been very nice.

Lurker comment:
Actially I agree with getting compass for trade was a good idea, sorry Acid.

Mostly because it was avalible right now and right now netted them Currency, HR and litherature.
That allready give them +2 commerce in every of there city, speeding them up, access to litherature to build national epic.
In time they will get Col they can burn next GP on Philosofy.

Personally I do believe they shot themself in a foot with early cottages, thougth. They still might live to tall the tale thought.

PS: Sorry folk, but I really believe then insted of cottages you better settle 2 gold cities. With no cottages you would had been able to use your specials resource for food and mines for shields, produce setlers and army mach faster and get about the same amount of commerce from instant gold commerce.

well i can't open the file, so i dont know if they have another GS ready, but CoL is in already, so shooting for shrine - Tao and pacifism is better in my book and probly better in the long run; they could've got all those tech with philo trading few turns later anyway.

Okay, I'm guilty of major weed. I had always assumed that the tech that was offered from a GL was the only tech they offered until such time as you got that tech. While it is nice to learn something new, I would just rather not learn it post turnset.

I replayed the turnset to see the difference and sadly it's immense. We are in a much much stronger position if we wait for philo rather then compass. Our next GL is still a ways away (~20 turns) so it truly is rather late.

I'm sorry... :(

Your not being able to open the file is also worring. Can anyone else open it?

Gotag

Acid does not have computer capable to run Civ just now, that why he can not open file.

Gotag, what's done is done, no need to dwell on it.

I have to say that playing the acid games with mutineer, I have unlearned and learned Civ4 in a totally different way. Suddenly it feels like an entirely new game, not a C3C in a new format.
Mutineer is a master of GP, really :goodjob:

I would love it if there would be a kind of table that tells you which GP gets you which tech as this can be highly confusing anf that's why I don't think you should be too angry, Gotag.

Well, I won't beat myself too badly but I have to admit I'm rather downhearted about those 10 turns. Looking at the game again and I have to admit with many of the turns I wondered what the hell I was thinking the first time around.

Missing the incense and the GL are major weed but there was a lot of small weed there too. I should have played this one before the AWOCC berserk Bismarck which had no micro and was just moving units and fighting. Got in the wrong mindset.

On the upside, we have a monopoly on CoL at least.

At least RB-Epic 4 is going well.

Gotag

yeah dont worry about it
but thats why disscussion is important, and i did suggest we get philo with GS, before your got it. :D

I would not call your choice a Weed Gotag. A weed is a mistake. Your turn was a good bit of trading. Not noticing there may have been something even better - well its why one plays SG's IMO. To learn new things.

I personally like building early cottages to get towns up quickly. One can still build settlers by chopping them. As it was we got Archery just in time. There was a good chance we would have lost the capitol (and the game) if we had gone the other way with only warriors to defend.

Hard to say of course, but I don't think the gold towns would have been up fast enough to contribute much before then. Besides one can always chop out settlers and expand fast enough.
