Rat28 - AWE OBC - Iroquois

The flips can really make you , smart idea on the deliberate recaptures. I had that "flip impending" feeling with the armies, and they couldn't be parked "outside" safely. Glad we still have them. Sounds like America may be a tough nut to crack.

when I started this game, I seriously considered disabling flips...it can be a really annoying feature that adds nothing to the fun of a game.

Preturn: Looks pretty good.

We have gotten close to the 1/2 the best culture which will help. Switched a few corrupt towns to aquaducts or temples. A few Civ eng can make a temple, but a Musket changing to Infantry will never complete before game end.

Raised science + MM towns to get Electricity in 5.

IBT: Resistance Ended.

1280 AD: Kill off a Stack of 10 units near the Houston. Drop off Armies on Mountain to finish heal. Elite victory gets a Leader and another Cav Army.

IBT: Well I misjudged. I thought we had enough units to stop flip but we didn't. Odds must have been quite small, we just got very unlucky.
We lose all units not in Armies. - Oh I know, I didn't count the squares of overlap, just town size.

1285 AD: Recapture Houston but leave it Empty. Portugal will likely take it.

IBT: Portugal does take it.

1290 AD: Recapture Houston. It is size 3 now.

IBT: And America takes it back again. Don't think I can hold it as our units are not yet across. So I leave it empty again.
RP in 7 turns.

1295 AD: Armies heal. Land units on Armies.

1300 AD: Armies heal.

1305 AD: Take town again hopefully for the last time. Size 2. Make Armies size 4 we now have pentagon. Some later armies should be kept 3 for Japan.

IBT: Japan drops 2 units next to Houston and America attacks them

1310 AD: Heal.

1315 AD: Take Washington. I don't try to protect it.

IBT: Washington taken back.

1320 AD: Take Washington again. Its now smaller.

1325 AD: I kept Washington because we squashed all resistance. We have some muskets because there are random Cavalry attacks on it. It can starve once a turn to get down to size. We just need to avoid a flip for 9 more turns.

Rushed a Barracks in Houston so Armies can heal. Town is to size 1 and cannot flip. It will get a border expansion soon.

Notes:
There are plenty of fortified Cavalry in Houston.

Mismoved a Galleon who lost his escort. Hopefully won't be attacked.

Rep Parts in 2.

I filled armies so we may want one at size 3 when we get another. If we don't get another Army, I played it wrong.

Beware that one size 4 army has only 1 cavalry and is a MW army in disguise.

Pre-Turn
MM a little bit, things look good

IT  the Portuguese show up with cavalry, but can't attack

1. 1330AD
take New York, we control ivory now and can reduce lux to 0%
take out 2 cavalry and shift many cavs into New York

IT lose a musket in Washington
get RP, go for industrialization first as nobody has even steam

2. 1335AD
manage to take Chicago without losses

upgrade 3 muskets to infantry
get our capital to 27spt, employ quite a number of engineers to finish temples etc faster

3. 1340AD
take Philadelphia
clear units around the area and empty New York and Chicago, keep few units in Washington

IT New York that is empty deposes us

4. 1345AD
take back New York and Atlanta

5. 1350AD
manage to take Boston with 7 muskets inside
it has Smiths which is some boost to our finances

6. 1355AD
finally get the needed MGL for a cav army to conquer Japan
take Buffalo, manage to take San Francisco with only cav and no armies
manage to take Miami as well

7. 1360AD
healing and shifting units, clear some other units, land more stuff overseas including some workers

8. 1365AD
Philadelphia seems to attract all the enemy units...several landings there
defeat all the landings
take Detroit

IT indus is in, we might want to go for sci methods though I think it migh be redundant

9. 1370AD
rush temple in Washington
almost lose an army taking St. Louis, take Seattle
start to attack New Orleans

IT Boston deposes us and we lose 2 muskets

10. 1375AD
take back Boston with ease, take New Orleans
get another MGL taking out a Port cav

the game is clearly in mopping up mode
we will get more border expansions and should be able to eliminate America in the next set.
With Portugal we should have more than the domination limit (now at 49%)

the new acquired land

:goodjob: Guys, you seem to be winning this. Do you have intentions to play another?

only got a quick look at it yesterday, but should be able to finish set tonight.

considered using engineers to add some culture, but ThERat has already built some everywhere.
I might send some troops to japan. reaching dominantion will probably happen faster, if we conquer a backward civ.

:goodjob: everybody

I'd like to play another, but would still prefer a 5CC (AW or not). Still having trouble to find time during the week, hopefully this won't be a problem anymore in june. If I focused more on units and where to buy temples instead of MM and worker actions it would't take that long anyway...

Congratulations... :goodjob:

I'll keep an eye out for your next game.

Well-played, congrats all! El filet, you might want to check out the Hawk series, we play 5cc there and we are about due to try an AW game eventually. We have just recently started a try at a spaceship victory, but I'm sure there will be plenty of war.

nicely played...didn't think it would be so easy. I think the map helped us a lot. :goodjob:

What's next? The same concept on emperor on pangaea? I think stepping up to demigod would be very tough as DG is a really different beast for AW games.

I am still pondering over the Silence is Golden game, which was one of the bext games I participated in. Nailbiting til the end.

I'd love to try this on a Pangaea. We might need another player or 2 to make an adequate roster.. Silence is Golden? Sounds intriguing, do you have a link?

We can start a pangaea 1BCAW game. Question would be which Civ to choose and which difficulty? Maybe start with monarch?

I am available for play. I have set up a thread for a game so you might come and play in that

Only thing is that i may be a bit under-levelled

Monarch, Babylon suits me fine. We've done all the usual suspects with strong UU's and good traits, so maybe it's time for some variety. If not Babylon, the Celts or Maya might be worth trying.
