Now that the game is available (at least to early access buyers) let us give it a mark and maybe help the people who are on the fence to make a decision. Also, i am interested to know how other fanatics rate the game after having played for a couple of hours.

I think that it's really good. There are a few bugs here and there, but I expected that because it's day 1. It'd be difficult to play one of the prior games now, and they're just getting started. The UI needs some work, but I don't understand a lot of the review sentiment at all.

I've had a smooth ride and that's with my wonky AMD GPU that keeps timing out on games. I'm sure with enough content and gameplay features this game will be insane. I had a lot of fun with the ages, and I actually DO hope for a fourth age with new set of civs to switch into (I don't care).

The game previews better than it plays.
I shrugged at all of the YouTubers complaining about readability, but when actually playing myself, I began to feel the same way.
I thought my biggest complaint would be the lack of Great People; instead, it’s themed districts being replaced by urban districts.
I was the rare soul to prefer vanilla V on launch over the complete Civ IV, and vanilla Civ VI on launch over the complete Civ V.
For the first time in the series, I feel that the new game at launch doesn’t yet surpass its predecessor.

Difficult options.

It's not a good release, it has many problems (and many bugs and few crashes). So maybe 5?
Potential for best civ game for sure. It has so many things that I would miss when going back to V or VI. So 8?

I bought it and will keep it. However, I hope it gets changed and improvede with expansions. I mean an overhaul so massive it completely changes how the game feels.

I dont like the move further away from sandbox to the legacies. I dont like the way the era transitions and civ switching are implemented. I hate the art style and the UI. There are only a handful of things I like the rest feels as though the game is not finished. I wish they delayed it by several months honestly. To me, this is by far the worst base version of a Civ game that I ever played at launch. I feel so sad and disappointed. So much so that I dont think this will be a game I will continue to play as I cannot see how they will come back from the mess. Maybe Civ 8 will be better.

And look, if you are enjoying it I am here for it, that's good! I hope it does well and I hope they turn it into a success. I love that team!

Voted 8 but probably would have felt more comfortable with 7.5 But Then again, I really do see the possibility of this being my favorite SM 4x after some additions and refinements. RIP SMAC

Giving it a 5 with the potential to rise to an 8 (I still think even with ideal implementation it won't scratch the itch for me personally the way Civ 4 does), but Firaxis has a long road to get to that 8 in my opinion:
  • Fix the god-awful UI
  • Add enough civ variety to make transitions historically-flavorful for all civs
  • Improve the gameplay for some of the legacies
  • Give more options for non-colonial gameplay in the Exploration age (tbh I can see an entire DLC around alternative age mechanics for Exploration)
  • Expand out the timeline to modern-day, to me it's a huge deal that the game ends around 1900 and a Civ game won't be complete without those modern techs and possibly modern mechanics (maybe a 4th age expansion?) to go with it
If I didn't recognize that 2K is at-fault for the monetization model and not Firaxis themselves I would knock off another point to a 4 because of the awful day-1 DLC and season pass model. Hated it in Civ 6, hate it even more here.

civ 6 was fine on release, I've been around for a few of these & the reception for 6 was "much more complete with fewer issues than civ 5 released"

the game of civ I am playing is the roughest version of it I have encountered, going back to civ 3 & alpha centauri.

there is also a certain something missing... maybe they should not have put Sid's name on it

Honestly was very on the fence but some friends told me they were enjoying it. I bought it and ended up refunding. Hoping they make some improvements, I was encouraged by the fact they already made a post indicating they know the UI is very bad.

I may repurchase in the future but for me personally the game felt very alien. I also really dislike the complete reset every era. Changing IPs is fine but deleting our armies and resetting them and stopping assaults that were planned and in progress, absolutely not.

I’ll keep an eye out but as of right now I’m disappointed and will wait to see how it develops

I'll grant you that Civ 5 was worse, but Civ 6 was not anything like "fine' on release.
I enjoyed civilization six on launch. For me personally seven feels very undercooked and disorienting (and no, Civ swapping isn’t my complaint)

I gave it a 7. There are some solid design concepts here at the core. There is a good game hiding under this poor UI. It does need some small tweaks beyond the UI. But UI and small tweaks is all I see as far as critiques. The UI is a big critique. And big maps.

It has a ton of potential. Now Firaxis just needs to polish that potential to a shine.

8/10, easily.

The core structure of the game is genuinely excellent. Firaxis took some huge swings this go round, and they struck those out of the park.

But the UI is so bad that I think we're being pranked. Surely this was the wrong build, because everything is either upside and backwards, or simply non existent.
