RBC12E - Fall of Rome Franks (Deity)

Awesome bit of trading Ky! Would it help our cash situation to kill science and buy Sacking?

I asked that myself, too. There are three civilizations who never will have sacking and thus make it more expensive for us; additionally, the A-S are behind as well, and I don't know how long they need to discover the tech. We also have invested some turns in the tech already. I have no idea if buying will be cheaper than self-researching under these cirumstances... :crazyeye:

Our economy will be in ok shape again in 10 turns. Another option would be to declare on Western Rome soon: Eastern Rome would declare on us because of their alliance, freeing the 26gpt we are paying them for the next 10 turns. I have no idea though what to expect from Rome and if we can survive this already, and we don't yet have the money for embassies to buy alliances against Rome.

At the end of Hotrod's turn the gpt payment will end, and we hopefully have the SoG as well and some money for upgrades. I guess we will be ready to strike then.

good job kylearan, and srry about the chopping...

WE NEED SCROUGE OF GOD... i hope i dont need to elarborate...

good luck hotrod.

RBC12E

404 AD (0): To begin our assult on Rome we need offensive units. Change all spear production to Pillagers. Can't use our cash for upgrades so I will have to make do with raiders. Seeing as how sacking is already known and we are already poor I turn off research completely and will save our cash for some much needed embassies.

406 AD (1): Cambri builds a cat starts courthouse. We still need productive cities. Upgrade a lone raider to pillager at 60 gold I hope he's worth it. Begining to from up a stack to attack our 2 nearest Roman cities.

408 AD (2): Tongres conutinues to build workers. The Ostorgoths now have currency.

INBT: Rome comes demanding maps and gold. I am not positioned to take an attack but we are 1 turn away from war so I decine and he declares.

410 AD (3) Build an embassy with the Anglo-saxons, he has 6 spear and a pillager. It costs us Barbarian Leadership but we buy the Anglos in to the war with Rome.

412 aD (4): Lose 1 raider but kill 1 legionary. Byzantines declare as expected. Sell Barb Leadership to the Celts for 50 gold. We now have some trade cash so I will look for a 2 fer. Its expensive but WM, 80 gold and 25 gpt to Ostrogoths for Currency. Currency to Vandals for Polytheism straight up. Poly, currency and 10 gold to Visogoths for Sacking. Kill a wounded Legionary.

414 AD (5): Kill 1 archer outside of Avignon but another remains. Move our stack outside of Auguta. Scourge is due in 2 turns. Very tempted to start whipping Warlords.

416 AD (6): A 2/3 Archer captures Avignon killing our sole raider. Kill a legionary at Augusta, wait to attack further. We lost 1 city :(.

418 AD (7): UhOh I spot some big horses in Roman territory. Rome lands another archer this time outside of Tongres. Scourge of God completed In Dispargum. A big O fer on the cats and our pillager dies to a legionary.

420 AD (8): Fearing the worst I look for oppotunities to get units fast. I whip a warlord in Marseilles and Soissons.

422 AD (9): Build our first 2 warlords. Our stack is dwindling because of Heavy Cav counters.

424 AD (10): Paris builds a warlord. Rome lands 2 more archers. HC and now pikes are heading our way. Wack an archer with a warlord and we start our Golden Age, just in the nick of time. Chartres is in danger of falling swap to spear but may be too late, purhaps it can be saved if we sacrific a worker. Warlords are on the move. Swap to spears where I can. Rome counters haven't been huge but are strategic. Should've just paid him the gold :smoke:

Ouch, losing a city is really bad, not because I fear that we will lose 7 more, but because we started with too few cities to begin with. I hope we will be able to keep Chartres! Maybe our GA and the warlords will turn the tide for us. Nice that we indeed got the SoG, though, and good trading! :)

I don't know our cash/tech situation, but maybe we should buy some more allies before Eastern Rome reaches us...

I've got it. My mother-in-law is in town this weekend so my civ-time availability is a little lower this weekend and I doubt I'll have time to have 10 turns of war in one sitting. Do we want to drop to 5-turns per player since we are now in AW mode? I fine with either but this next 10 may streach to Sunday night.

Since we are at war for the duration, every city goes to building units :tank: except Cambria which will get a barrack. I bump up the tax rate to 20% to help with the loss of MP's heading to the front. I stop all research, Construction can be bought if we want it in a little while but I need cash for upgrades. Move a "sacrificial slave" to the raod to Chartres. Hit end turn and hope these early Franks fight better than their modern day counterparts.

IBT Sassanids smell blood and request our TM and 23g. They can have it for now. Our slave does it's job and dies. We kill one and retreat another Heavy Cavalry at Chartres. Nicomedia completes the Hagia Sophia.

426AD-1 Chartres spear-->barrack Cologne spear-->catapult Kill a garrison out to pillage our iron. Upgrade a raider in Soissons to warlord. At our income, we can upgrade one every three turns. The workers will be working on our road net. I am building roads in forests because with the GA, that is where the sheilds are and we need the income.

IBT The two spears go 1 for 2 in Chartres. Kill another Heavy Cavalry near Augusta Treverorum. The A-S have captured Avignon. :)

428AD-2 Dispargum and the Scurge both complete warlords. Soissons warlord-->catapult Move in to retake Avignon from Rome. There are 2 archers ready to attack it.

IBT The last horse threatening Chartres retreats. Rome does not retake Avignon but moves around it. The A-S ask us to leave their territory around Avignon.

430AD-3 Cambrai barrack-->spearman Cologne catapult-->catapult Killed the last horse near Chartres and an archer near Avignon.

IBT The A-S now escort us out of the area around Avignon. Kill a Legion near Chartres and inslave a Maurader. :p Unfortunatly our advanced party at Augusta Treverorum dies to 3 legions. :spank: I should have pulled them back out after the three raider got injured. We lost 3 cats and a migrant.

432AD-4 Upgrade a Warlord in Cambrai. Soisons catapult-->catapult Tournai warlord-->spearman

IBT The A-S are moving thorough our land in larger numbers. Too bad a ROP would cost us money. :(

434AD-5 Cologne catapult-->warlord Kill two legions near Cambrai losing a warlord but gaining a marauder.

IBT Two archers are dropped off at Paris.

436AD-6 Chartres barrack-->spear Tongress warlord-->warlord Soissons catapult-->catapult Cambrai spear-->spear Dispargum warlord-->warlord Upgrade a warlord in Cambrai. Remove both archers from our coast. Red line a HC approaching Chartres.

IBT Lose the wounded warlard near Chartres. Byzantines complete St. Peter's Basilica in Antioch. Two more archers land near Tournai.

438AD-7 Paris Warlord-->courthouse Tournai spear-->spear Scurge completes a warlord. Dispatch the invading archers and get a Great Leader and a marauder. [dance] :band: Great leader forms an army and heads to Cambrai to be filled. Tongres is now unhappy at size 9 so the are switched to a migrant. Could go for a temple but this is better at dropping them back down a couple of pop points and wee will need a couple as we approach VP locations.

440AD-8 Marseilles warlord-->warlord Tongress migrant--migrant Mass movement of troops getting a large number together before the attack.

IBT Lose our marauder garding the road to Chartres. The A-S have been doing a good job keeping the Romans away but they seem to be without focus at the moment.

442AD-9 Tournai spear-->spear Upgrade a WL in Cambrai. Let the fun begin...Kill an archer outside Augusta Trevernorum with a Reg WL and gain another Marauder. Our Catapult misses to start the battle for Augusta Trevernourm.
Vet WL defeats Vet Legion
Vet WL defeats Reg L
Reg WL defeats Reg L and gains a marauder
Reg Marauder loses to Reg Garrison and promotes R
Reg M loses to 2hp Vet G
Last Reg M defeats Vet G to take the city
We gain 4g and three slaves. We recapture our 3 catapults and the migrant turned worker.
I move one catapult towards Durcortorum to catch any counter. I'll lose one to keep the other two.

IBT The Byzantines complete Justinian's Leadership in Constantinople. And Rome does not move near Durcortorum. They are moving back to Chartres.

444AD-10 Tongres migrant-->migrant Dispargum warlord-->warlord Soissons catapult-->catapult

I did not move very many troops. I have two cats, a WL and a spear spread out but heading to hold the road to Chartres. The A-S have blocked their path so they should close up together. The spear needs to go to the town while the WL and Cats take position in a forification on the road.
The empty army, a motly mix of troops and a migrant are all heading to Cambrai. This is a good consolidation point. Most will need to be diverted to the Chartres area to take the Roman city to the south.
Our largest force is 1-2 turns from attacking Durcortorum. When all are healed, attack behind the catapults and we will easily take that town. KEEP A UNIT ON THE RUBBLE UNTIL THE MIGRANT ARRIVES. These troops can then go on to the next town.
Get the Elite warlords into the army when it arrives at the front. I would send the army down to France and Spain looking for small Roman towns and resources to pillage.
Our curraugh is heading to the Atlantic for fog busting. Sell our map every turn. That 6-8g each round is a big part of our income and will be bigger after the GA.
We only have 3 more warlords to upgrade. The exploring raiders keep getting kicked out on their way home. Think about buying Construction after all the upgrades. The river crossings are slowing us way down.
Before the GA ends, think about adding in a couple of courthoueses where they would help and a few markets for income.
I know WRome has lost two towns, Avignon and Augusta Trevernourm. The victory page has the A-S in the lead (or in the back?) with four lost towns. For future consideration, move a couple of attackers near Avignon is they lose any more towns. Our alliance will end soon and I have no problem turning on our only friends by taking their 8th town. :D

We are better off than I though we would be but not as strong as other teams. We can still win this by destroying WRome and the A-S.

Take it to the Romans.

I think the Captin is on leave for now so to keep this moving Kylearan should play when you can.

I think we are in okay shape thanks to the AS troops. I haven't read the other threads but I think we had a unique starting spot pinned by water, ASaxons and Western Rome.

I'm very sorry, but a presentation I will have to make suddenly has been moved forward to Monday (instead of a week later as had been planned originally), and now I'm unexpectedly drowning in work. :( It's half past midnight local time, and I'm still working.

I'm afraid I have to ask for a skip or, if with our small number of players that's no option, a delay until tuesday before I will be able to play. My apologies that it's now me how delays this game even further, but I really hadn't anticipated *this*.

:( That's rough Kylearan.

I would just assume we wait. I feel like I just went and really don't want this to get any more shorthanded. By simply skipping through your turns.

6thgen you have any thoughts??

i MAY be able to play on weekends, i'll update you!

Don't worry. The rest of us former barbarians will wait for the sluggish Franks before starting the Middle Ages (which, in case you haven't checked the discussion thread lately, is starting the signups for.)

If you're really shorthanded, I'd be willing to help out and join you .

Jack thanks for the offer. Please feel free to jump in and take it now if you can get to it.

Captain: Thanks for the update. Keep us posted on your status.

IHT: Proceed to move all units as ordered. Disband the two exploring raiders as we're never going to get them back without seriously annoying the neighbours. Establish an embassy with Visigoths fro 50g - their capital is size 1 and judging from the available infrastructure, they do not yet seem to have found out what this scenario is all about :smoke:.

VP is at 2,630.

Can't reinforce Chartres this turn since the A-S are blocking the road... they better start helping out with the Roman HC that is in sight and any more that may appear or stop blocking the road.

IT the 2hp Roman HC retreats against Chartres without doing damage; however, 2 more healthy ones appear.

446 AD (1) I sign a RoP with the A-S free of charge. Fingers crossed as the A-S are STILL blocking the road to Chartres; we may very well lose it. Move our little Warlord stack in on Durocortum.

IT A-S kill and retreat the HC threatening Chartres; several more, however, appear.

448 AD (2) Paris courthouse - warlord. The Scourge produces one too. We kill 4 HC, producing 2 marauders. Found Besançon on the rubble of Augusta Treverorum; I'll replace Durcortum with another Migrant from Tongres. Begin gathering some units in Chartres too (spears, newly produced Warlords and cats) envisioning a second line of advance towards Augusta Vindelicum.

Construction is still out of our price range, but we'll have another batch of wines online in a couple of turns with which to buy it.

IT 2 Marauders defend succesfully against a hurt HC and a legion.

450 AD (3) Our Cats take off 3 hps off the defenders of Durcortum; Warlords charge in but at the end of the day, 1 Legion remains standing. We lose one warlord and 2 marauders (which I'd used to attack the 1 hp legion - it promoted). We'll capture it next turn then. I figure the Army is best used for the assault on Augusta Vindelicum.

Tongres builds a worker, starts on a WL. Workers complete the road south from Cambrai, start on connecting the second wines.

IT The A-S come calling to end our alliance

452 AD (4) Catapults fire, Warlords charge and:

RBC12E_firstVP.jpg

Our first VP ! I found Rouen on the spot; it's quite close to Besancon now but we can use the extra income from more towns. Seeing as a deal just ended and we have 91 gpt to play with, I decide to buy construction from the Celts for 26 gpt. Another Warlord also dispatches a Legion; otther WL's go for a little R&R.

454 AD (5) Wines come online; I decide to sell them to the Ostros in exchange for horses. Buy Fortification from the Sassanids for 10gpt. Switch Cambrai and Soissons over to Horsemen; we can slip in a few mroe later and then buy/research Mil Training.

Our Army dispatches a Legion and a HC near Chartres, then runs into 3 more HC.

456 AD (6) Movement & rest for our weary troops. The Roman HC disappear into the fog.

458 AD (7) Advance on Avaricum, Augusta Vindelicum, get some WLs together on the road to Lugdunum. Establish embassies with the Ostrogoths and Vandals and upgrade a raider.

IT Lose one WL to Roman counters, kill one HC and retreat another.

460 AD (8) Troops in position to attack Avaricum and Augusta Vindelicum next turn. Dispargum completes a WL, starts a Duct whicch I'll help along with a forest chop. Cambrai will get a courthouse.

462 AD (9) Capture Avaricum with no lossses. Several Roman HC in the Vicinity; kill 3 of the Eastern variety and 1 of the Western. Raze Augusta and kill another HC in the vicinity. The Western Romans have lost 5 cities now.

464 AD (10) There are 2 main lines of advance now: directly south towards Lugdunum, and one east which can go 2 ways - due East towards Vindobona and Aquincum, or due South into Northern Italy across the Alps. It will take a few turns either way, and the A-S clogging up the roads doesn't help. I left a Migrant active in Chartres which can go and form a forward base to heal our troops there. I also turned on research towards Mil Training (which we won't be able to trade for except from the already way too powerful Sassanids) which is currently due in 12, although that may slow down once the GA ends. Recommend slipping in a few horses so we can upgrade them. The A-S should definitely be our next target after the death of Western Rome, but at some point we'll have to sign a bunch of people in against the Byzantines before they coast to victory too. I built in embassy with the Sassanids to that end, but chances are they'll still be seriously expensive to buy in.

We currently have 5,755 VPs, the Western Romans are in the lead with 20,990. I have been very conservative with our troops since we can't replace them anywhere near as fast the other AIs; the A-S have a ton of troops so any offensive against them will need to be planned very carefully to wipe them out before they can counter.
