RBC15A - France - Sid

Great play T-Hawk. I think the goals for the next player, be it Speaker or me, is to pound on London until it crumbles. In your Screenie, I counted 5 conscripts, or at least that is what it appears on my really low res work comp. The Spanish campaign is still going quite nicely. It is nice to see that even on Sid it takes the opponents capitol 3 turns to make their offensive unit, whereas Paris can make an imp cav in 4/5.
Do we disband the Volt army to get another imp guard or imp cav army?
Alternatively, we can liberate a couple of Spanish cities, then just build a new one. I can't touch this tonight, and I am uncertain about tomorrow. I might call "got it" and play my six. It all depends how work goes today and tomorrow.
T-Hawk, on the cavs retreating in spain instead of taking our city, they may have been chasing a British landing. The lower D and HP of the HHcav means that they are a much more tempting target.
Has Britain shown up with any lifeguards yet? It would seem quite strange that they have not.
All in all, this looks like a really handy victory at this point.

Heh, crossposted with romeo.

I wouldn't disband the Volt army. It's standing sentinel over in the east; it'll be sorely needed over there if Austria or Prussia were to attack us. It's insurance that we can afford. And I did load one I-Cav into the volt army, which makes it work out for the army to attack at 13 strength, so it's still quite useful.

Yes, Britain does have lifeguards, but there's still a lot more redcoats. I don't think we're really going to crack Britain until we get some serious bombardment going on over there. Spain's units are fewer and much weaker; we can overrun them much faster (and take Gibraltar as well eventually.)

T-Hawk, you posted the save from the beginning of your turn. I need the correct save to really advance.

IHT: Never thought I could say this, but I MM for 2 gold. Yay. (Sorry guys, a personal thing. MM'ing after all of you guys has been the easiest time I have every had in an SG). Sign up Prussia vs. Britain and get 10 gold for my effort.
IBT: Swap TMs with Austria, kill some Spanish units. They killed an exposed musket, but only after promoting him a few times. Brits take our guard army to 1 HP. Brits land next to Portsmouth.
Turn 1: Valence riots. I swore I MM'ed it last turn. Ottomans got Artillary tactics. Limited offesnive against Spain, We lost one imp cav in the IBT there. Bombard and kill the cav and lifeguard stack landed at Portsmouth. A quick check to the civilopedia shows that rivers give no D bonus. Kill the lifeguard in London. We are now the same size as Russia.
IBT: Swedes and Ottomans MA vs Austria. Denmark and Spain sign peace, thus we get peace with Spain as well. Brits once again land 3 units at portsmouth.
Turn 2: There was some rioting as our War happiness disappeared. I for one hate the Locked idiots rule. Faced with the decision to leave our territory or declare the Spanish declare. Captured Barcelona with no losses, got 9 gold and a cannon. Kill 2 redcoats in London, fortify in Portsmouth and hope for the best.
IBT: Spanish Privateers are working hard to sink the british blockade. Remobolize. Spanish land near the former British stomping grounds. Ottomans and Russia sign peace.
Turn 3: Cleaning up some Spanish troops. We just need to kill at least 10 of their units per turn. They are cooperating with this figure. Rush harbor in Portsmouth. Kill several Brits, including 2 redcoats in London. Continue the forsetry operations. I got peace with sweden, 325 gold and an alliance vs the Brits for Seapower.
IBT: Spanish land again.
Turn 4: Remobolize, and start killing my 10 spanish units. Rush a cannon in Portsmouth, and an Imp cav by spain. I capture Medina, so the new magic number is 9 per turn. Rush some more units.
IBT: NOt much. Spanish gave us a few gold, by temporarily holding our cannon for us. They were exposed when Medina only had 3 defenders.
Turn 5: Rush walls in Portsmouth. Only killed 1 brit in London. Started another army. It will head for the Brits after I rush it next turn. Cannons recoverd.
IBT: Lost an Imp guard in Spain. Killed 5 brits, but lost a fortified full health Imp guard to an attacking life guard. Propoganda upsets Boulogne.
Turn 6: Army to 1 HP, but reg redcoats are showing in London. Hurt spain again. Head towards Madrid.

After-action. The Armies are healing. I am starving Milan down, as it grows way too fastand loves to riot, but can give us an extra 16 gpt with Taxmen.
We can secure our own dyes by colonizing. It will take 3 turns, but I am sure that it would really pay off. Gen Ed is out there, but we really can't afford anything. I think the artillary should move from Spain to Britain and I am moving in that general direction. I think that Spain is gassed. We apparently only will see 5-6 units per turn, and with 3 armies down there should carve up the Spanish quite nicely. Then we are in position to whack Gibralter as well.
I only took 2 cities but Speaker should be able to get london, and our own dyes. I expect England to take another 20 turns to fall, then we have Ireland to deal with.

Good turns. One note:

I got peace with sweden, 325 gold and an alliance vs the Brits for Seapower.

Did you put the peace and the alliance into the same deal? If so, that means that if Sweden and Britain make peace before 20 turns are up, it terminates the alliance and thus the entire deal, including the peace treaty, meaning that Sweden will auto-declare war on us again.

A couple good-looking turns. We're definitely making good progress. As long as our VP rate stays high (and I don't know why it would decrease), I think this one should sail out fairly smoothly.

Roster:
Speaker -- UP NOW (could claim Friday = today, so he said)
romeothemonk -- swapped and just played
T-hawk -- ON DECK
Arathorn -- available if needed, 3rd in line

Arathorn

The Peace was made for 100 gold, then I gave Seapower for alliance and gold.

IT- I must second T-Hawk's thoughts here. Our defenses are so flimsy they could be blown over by a soft breeze. We have about a half-dozen units defending our entire civilization. We are stretched way too thin, which I will remedy this turn. Here's hoping no one sneak attacks us.

*Enter*

Kill a few British and Spanish units.

Jan 1808 (1): Pound the crap out of Madrid, which still has defenders left. I hope Spain will be pretty well gassed when it eventually falls. I make liberal use of the draft, training 1 from every size 12 city, and 2 from our most corrupt cities. We are now much safer from sneak attack.

IT- Stupid mistake as I allow Medina to be captured by Spain. We are woefully short on troops in Spain.

Mar 1808 (2): Finally capture Madrid. Shuffle some troops south to Spain, to protect our holdings.

May 1808 (3): Recapture Medina. Spain is definitely not gassed. They still have over 40 Soldado's (growing each turn) and a half dozen Cavalry. Send another Cav army to England.

Jul 1808 (4): Kill 9 Red Coats in England and bombard a couple, with healthy conscripts still showing.

IT- Britain and Prussia sign peace, but luckily do not sign an MA against us.

Sep 1808 (5): Kill a few Spaniards and Brits. Lifeguards hurt out armies bad.

IT- IGuard Army is a monster, killing a half dozen British troops.

Nov 1808 (6): Remember to renew our MA against Britain with Prussia. Forgot to do that last turn.

IT- Prussians prove useful and take out a Spanish Cavalry that landed near Limoges.

Uh, Spanish sign MA against us with Ottomans, which takes away our dyes and causes Lyons to riot (I fix the rest).

Jan 1809 (7): Kill some Spanish and British units.

Conclusion- Passing off here. I would recommend an alliance with Austria, Russia and Prussia against the Ottomans so they don't ally against us. Investigation of London showed 8 Conscripts left this turn, so the city should fall in a couple turns (the second Cav army is healing in Portsmouth and will be ready for action next turn). We're really not ready for more conquest in Spain. Troops are stretched thin as is and espionage shows Valencia protected by 4 Vet Soldadas, although for some reason at 41spt it is cranking out...Privateers (at a rate of 1 per turn). :smoke: A worker is headed toward the dyes to build a colony. I apologize for leaving it on autoturn, but when I set it, I was planning on playing 8 turns, but being declared on made me decide to pass off early.

I think that makes me up again. I'm still busy with moving and probably won't have time until circa Wednesday. If you want to swap with me again and grab it, Arathorn, go ahead. There's still enough left to do that we'll both get turns.

Haven't looked at the save, but I think I agree with a full dogpile on the Ottomans; we need to keep peace with Prussia and Austria by all means possible.

looking at the save, and the spies we have planted I have drawn a few conclusions.
1. Spain has 40 ground troops and 9 cities. We have 3 armies, and some misc stuff. The three armies should continue to take apart Eastern Spain, and should be able to take out 3 cities in the next 8.
2. Britian had 70+ ground troops, and based on the Lifeguard coutnts, The fact that I haven't seen too many, I think Gibralter will stand this game. When London Falls, it should raise our income some 40 gpt or better. I would almost consider abandoning Portsmouth to Keep london. When London falls, I expect the counter attacks to be fast and ferocious.
3. We are still leading the power curve.
4. We can take the volt/imp cav army by Austria down for a spin and try to grab an Otto city.
5. We have cannons fortified in Spain that could do so much more vs Britain. (They may be there for an assualt on Gibralter.
6. We have more than 36,000 VP's, but we really have to pick up the pace, as we are on turn 54.
Otherwise this all looks good.
Nice use of the Draft by the way.
