RBCiv Conquests SG Discussion Thread

I participated briefly in some of the Realms Beyond games during last winter, and I really enjoyed them. :D I hadn't really time to participate in any of the games this year until now. I've followed quite a few SGs within the community (many of the accomplishments were simply amazing), but I've never participated in any of the SGs. I'd like to join one for the Napoleanic Conquest, if that's cool  with everyone. I prefer Spain, although any would be fine.

Can anyone participate in a RBCiv game? Or do i have to do anything to be able to participate? If anyone can, sign me up for Austria demigod please.

Sure thing -0blivion- I'll sign you up for Austria. In terms of requirements, I'll refer you to the first post in this thread:

For clarity, the RB series of games represent those of/by/for Realms Beyond Civilization, and the RBCn games are the new series for Conquests games (RBP was for PtW, RBD for the original game, RBE a wild ride of deity only games). It's not a formal guild or anything, just a (usually) like-minded set of folks who enjoy playing strategy and action games for their challenge, who favor honorable/non-exploitative play, and who like to have fun!

Epics Rules and Discussion of Exploitative Tactics: http://www.realmsbeyond.net/civ/etactics.html
RBCiv Forum: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/189557 (Includes all discussion of 'Epics' and other assorted topics)

RBC games are like a 'Republic', not owned by any one person or committee, but opened by those who abide by the non-exploit rules, and who have participated in and completed a RB succession game. These are 'musts' which ensure a consistent and quality game experience for all involved. The other near-must is to discuss a game in some fashion (RBCiv forum, PM, a SG or this thread) before starting it. We hate to see half-baked ideas for games started, or insufficient sign-up, which can litter the forum with games that are never finished (or worse, never started). Keep in mind too that the RBC series is a home for interesting or variant games, but by no means the only one. In the past year the number of outstanding variant/themed/challenging SG games has gone way up, and many folks playing along the lines of RB-Epic rules have their own series, which is cool to see.

...

Thanks! I look forward to gaming with my many old friends here, as well as meeting several new ones through the joyride known as the 'Succession Game'. (Let me give a big thumbs up too, to Thunderfall, Chieftess, Moonsinger, Padma and other CFC fanatics who make this all possible! :goodjob: )

Let the games (discussions) begin! :hammer:

With our usual leader, Charis, out of commission, I'll step forward and coordinate RBC15

Sheesh Speaker, you think I would have been unable to finish what I've started?

That's fine, though, because then I won't have to coordinate something I cannot participate in anyway, since I'll be away from August, 16th for two weeks. :p

I 'ld like to try this one as well.
Since the Sid game is full (4max for a short game, isn't it), I ld be happy to go with the 'russian' game.

But being away between the 14th and 30th, it up to "Doc" to accept a half away member. Doc, feel free to accept or reject me :-).

I have never played this scenario (and can't really play until this WE), so don't put me in the 1st position except if we have a long pre-game discussion before.

Thks

If grahamian and microbe will be available without breaks, you're welcome, Jabah. 3.5 participants should be fine, but not less.
We certainly need a lot of pre-game discussion. Russia is pretty safe, and needs a lot of work before it really gets roling (FP!). And since we aim for a Domination victory, we need to plan ahead a lot (like attacking Sweden ASAP, and take their lone Saltpeter).
I played Russia during beta; a lot has changed since that time, but I think I can come up with a number of strategy suggestions.

One question remains:
Deity or Demigod?
It's not that I don't think we could win on Deity, I just think we will hit the VP level here too soon (bigger AI cites + far more units).

i'll be MIA for 2 weekends during August (Fri & Sat nights), on the 13th & 14th as well as the 27th & 28th. not expecting anything else atm.

wrt difficulty, if you are implying that dg would be harder due to lack of VP's, wouldn't France accumulate them quickly @ diety by attacking it's neighbors? well, i really have no experience with this conquest so i'm fine with either level, as long as we chose the one we feel will present the most challenge :)

Re: Difficulty

With the French Juggernaut, Deity is always challenging.

However, Deity gives us two problems:
1) France may win ;) , since they'll make more VPs by killing units.
2) We will win by VP score, long before we hit the Domination level (nearly all Conquests are near impossible to win by Domination on any level above Monarch because of that).

I don't object against Deity, but I'm pretty sure we will have to drop the Domination idea halfways...if that's fine for everyone (aim for Dom, but a VP victory is not considered a loss), Deity it is.

ok, diety sounds better to me and gets my vote. i'd rather play with a chance of losing than play just to try to hit domination before vp's.

edit: actually, now that i've read doc's 1st post on this matter, i see he really wanted to try the ballerina dance and go for domination. i have no problem with that as that will probably take more skill than killing waves of AI units over and over again :)

Indeed...Napoleonic is all about Artillery, so exactly what a Human player always does at the highest levels.
Reaching the Domination level before (at least, before we hit the VP level; if France gets near it, we are forced to react) requires more strategic thinking - not occuping VP locations, starving down cites before taking, killing as few (or as cheap!) units as possible :crazyeye:, bypassing the bigger cities and taking the outlying ones instead etc. And, we need to research about everything, since we not only need the units, but Hospitals and Public Schools as well.
At least, cultural borders stay expanded here, that'll help us a lot.
Aside from RoR, nobody ever managed a Dom victory in the RBC series so far (IIRC, that is). I'd really prefer to go for Domination, and I think it is almost(?) impossible on Deity.

ok, i switch my vote to DG. your write-ups have me really looking forward to this game :)

I second that idea, but if we think Domination is possible on DG, we could try it.

I'm away from 8/25 to 9/1, but available otherwise. Seems around that time only 2 players will be present.

I'm fine with either DG or Deity. If people think it's possible to win at deity, we can go for it, otherwise DG. I don't mind losing but not play for impossible either. :) Since I never played Russia (only France once long time ago), I have no idea.

According to mapstat, we'd need something like Prussia, all of Scandinavia, Austria and a few more cities from the Ottomans most likely. Definetely possible on the lower levels, but can we do that before we rack up too many VPs on Deity? I doubt it, but I'm not against a challenge :)
For example, when playing as France on DG (where a victory is almost sure)France+Italy+Spain+Portugal+Gibraltar+Prussia+2/3 of Austria will be 60000VPs, but only about 30% land...
