RBW3 - Mehmed the Unwise

Will be able to play over the weekend.

What's the plan for the second settler? In the south I presume.

Yup...Qwack marked two spots. I prefer the northern one even though it is one less Gem for the overall dotmap, and I have a Warrior fortified there and a Worker roading that way.

As I think about, I'm not sure Alphabet is the best next tech. I mean, we are not going to be build the GL, so it is really only for trading. I would actually prefer to head to Mathematics for our UB, which is super cool ;).

What wonders, If any did people have in mind for this variant?

lurker's comment: Uuh... less of a lurker's comment than a lurker's observation. A very slow observation. It took me until now to realize the third sequel had begun. Good luck you guys!

I wish one of my RB SGs would have enough drive to have sequels, and sequel sequels, and sequel sequel sequels

Well, a no great person variant sounds interesting. For instance, no lightbulbing metal casting for early forges and an early Colossus (as I did in one of my games). I would think your best bets (as for technology), would be to build The ORACLE and take Mathematics or ALPHABET with it (as for current possibilities), depend on the FREE TECH FROM LIBERALISM(Gunpowder for powerful JANISSARY slave soldiers or Nationalism for TAJ MAHAL and DRAFTING), or TRY to create THE INTERNET.

Everything in all caps except for the word "try" represents something that might be intricately important to your game.:)

I dont think we should leave out wonders just because they give GP points. I think oracle/hanging gardens/colussus and wonders like that will still be helpful. Even though we will probably end up relying on cottages for most of our income and research.

Ozbenno.. no problem take your time :)

If you found a city in a high-food location, you can treat it as a "super whipping boy". Just don't overdo it, okay.

Pay attention to my earlier post. It will help you with technology, although I believe the game will end BEFORE The Internet becomes available.:)

Well I loaded the save, had a look around and immediately noticed that Shaka has a city really close to where we are intending to settle next. This will immediately bring up -ve modifers as we will haev a shared border. As we don't have any metal connected up next, do we want to do this? (I say we still do but would understand if others don't). If we're going for it then I would consider whipping the settler when we can to make sure we get the spot.

Also, given the above, we're going to be butting heads with Shaka sooner rather than later, switch research from Alphabet to Iron Working.

As for wonders, the only one that really strikes me is Hanging Gardens as we will be building Hammans all over the place. Without stone or marble no others really strike me as being that useful to justify the production loss.

How long until that copper is within our borders?

Five turns...I suggest we still found the Gems city and take care of Shaka. He is a sucky neighbor anyway.

Agreed. I just wanted to be sure we had something to fight with.

Well the plan has been set, research switched to Iron Working, press enter...

A barb city (with 3 archers has spawned in the north east).

We get Ankara settled in the south.

We hook up the copper.

Shaka wants open borders but I'm not inclined yet.

After Iron Working I select Mathematics but I leave the game here so can obviously be changed later (Pottery or Alphabet might be good).

We have iron

I was going to whip the library in Edirne (already done in Istanbul) as both cities can support scientists (was going to let Istanbul grow to 5 first)

I have the save, expect a report tonight.

My suggestions:

Instead of working the floodplains in Edirne, we should work the Wheat farm. After obilesk in Ankara, start a workboat there. Math seems like a good tech (On way to construction). Our first target will probably be Shaka, so I would say settle a city 1S of the cows in the north for a decent production city with the iron. We can go 1 SW also but I think 1S will give it more food, even though it will have some overlap. With that we have 3 cities which can be whipped, and 1 for pure production. I would try to go after Shaka once before catupults, once we have a decent stack IMO.

In Civ4, there are monuments, not obelisks (unless you're playing as :egypt:).

Man, lot's of weird variants are coming these days. No promotions, no civics, now no great people? You guys must be good at the game WITHOUT variants, so you are creating variants to make things more fun, I'm guessing.

I'll try to help you as much as possible.:D

Probably the best way to catch Realms Beyond games is to monitor the SG thread here at Civ Fanatics for games begininng with RB or RBW. You could also check the RB civ forums.

Here is the report, no screenshots because not much happened

T0- Shaka's city there, looking tasty. With no great people, I think getting Pottery is more important in this variant than in a regular game. I switch research to Pottery(due in 9), we want to get some cottages going and soon. A barb is preparing coming at us, a possible copper pillage could happen.

T1-Istanbul finishs Axe, starts another. Barb moves onto Copper, axe is next to him, so if he decides to attack axe and not pillage all is good, if not we lose the copper for a bit.

T2- lost the copper, kill the warrior. Worker enroute to tidy up. In the mean time a worker is ordered up in Istanbul.

T5-Whip Library in Edrine-over flow into a worker.

T7- A barb archer come out of Assyrian, so I move the warrior from a regular hill to a forest hill, he still dies.

T8- Gems city (Ankara) finishes monument, I would love to start a work boat, but we don't know fishing yet so, A barracks is started.

T9- Pottery comes in->fishing (due in 5). Edrine whips a worker and Capital finish that worker.

T10-Whip overflow in Edrine into a cheap granary. Copper still not back up, so Capital starts a 7 turn granary.

T12- Fishing in started on Mathematics (due in 19).

T13- Nothing really

Okay that brings us to 105 turns, so I will stop there. When these granaries finish we need some axes pronto, i never trust Shaka and we will have border tension soon. I think we should talk about the tile improvements in Ankara (gem city), keep the forests or not? Gems will be hooked up in 2 and that is timed with growth in the Capital, reconfigure Istanbul's tiles in 2 turns.

Not always. In the case of this SG, it was a sequel preplanned in a previous thread that happened to be planned as a sequel in the thread that was a sequel planned in the original SG thread which was planned in the RB SG thread and on the RB forum. If you didn't understand what I just said, you're probably normal

EDIT: Way for me to crosspost with Atlas!
