Hello everyone, this is my first post though I've been reading your comments.

Perhaps its because I'm a wimp and enjoy playing on Cheiftan and Warlord levels, but does anyone else like to sort of model their civilizations in a manner that is congruous with their own personal beliefs? For example, my top goals are keeping my citizenry completely happy, minimizing pollution, and avoiding using/creating/instituting things like Offshore Platforms or Fundamentalism because I disgree with them in real life.

This isn't to say that I don't have handy railroad fortresses stocked with Mech. Infantry and Howitzers, or that I won't defend or attack if I feel it necessary. I was just wondering if anyone else instituted some of their personal beliefs into the way they conducted their games or if I need to take myself less seriously. cheers!

Taking yourself less seriously is good advice for anybody playing a game!

I don't really modify what I do in the game. I never build nukes or nuke plants - or manufacturing or power plants either, for that matter. Not cuz they are evil, but cuz the equally evil hydro plant is better in my game.

I never play fundamentalism either, but cuz it makes winning far too easy.

While rather pleasant company in real life, I rather enjoy crushing the AI, poisoning its cities, sinking its ships, etc, in the game.

It's a game, remember that and don't take it or yourself too seriously.

My style of play tends towards the violent, quite the opposite of my real life persona. I suppose it might release some genetically programmed agressive traits that have no place in modern society, but then again maybe its just fun.

Not really... I do avoid Fundamentalism because I don't like it in real life, but I usually (in the game) end up as a Communist state trying to take over the world (because communism is the best for war!)... not exactly what I think in reality so some of both, I guess.

Probably, yes - I always take the peaceful path - though can be isolationist. When the AI asks me for help, I ignore it - it's just another one of the many AI wars, and I can't be bothered with them. But I like Republic and Democracy (I imagine all the happy little traders) and if I had the Fascist patch, I would have a problem with changing my government to Facism. But sometimes I have played an incredibly aggressive civ - always a custom one, called the Kragians, who just annihilate everything in sight!:ripper:

I am not an aggressive person but my CIV definitely is!

My goal is extermination of all of these cheating computer civs in a way so horrible that I won't describe it here...

I do avoid overlapping my cities. Just not neat!
