I finished running the simulation of #2. We successfully freed the hostages, but with major losses on our side . Of course, LH may, or I should say will, throw in some extra stuff to make the battle more interesting.

Hmmm . . . negotiations with that loopy lunatic appear to have broken down, I'd say:

You don't get it, do you? Russia is not out to make friends with little Britain. You WILL give us Writing and Alphabet or the hostages - and then your bodyguards - die one by one. You understand? You will die last of all, but unless you give us these secrets you WILL die.

Czar Peter
I think the time when you could send your bodyguards away peacefully or even leave the city with that particular descriptor are gone. Loooooong gone.

Sorry for being so impatient, but could you post your tech plan? I'm dying to know how this administration will go.

EDIT: I just saw the Czar's comment. I don't think tech plan is too important for now...

I agree with Ravus

Ah. I thought this might turn up. Russia hates us, Russia will continue to hate us. So, while "negotiations" are going on (we're really just stalling for time), the Eagles attack the base with plan 2 and get the hostages out by a pre-specified time. When that time comes, Arya attempts to escape with his life and heads back to England.

Giving in would just show how weak the English empire is. We are not weak. We are willing to fight for what is right, and we will not just give up two hard earned technologies. WE WILL NOT GIVE IN!!!

If it wasn't clear enough, I meant declare war. If they loose their heads and declare war on us, good for them. As long as LH doesn't WB them an advantage, we will probably not see anything dangerous from them anyway.

COA #6-

We have two ships approaching the army base from the east, but one goes to the north of it, the other to the south. The northern one is the naval galley that carries 30 presidential bodyguards and the southern one is the Morning Glory carrying Teams 1 and 2. The bodyguards reach the docks that are at the army base, securing them and the surrounding areas, taking up positions behind barricades meant for the defense of the army base. Team 1 leaps from the Morning Glory and swims to the south beach of the army base. The 2 groups pin the army force but try their best to avoid casualties and try to use archers from a distance to keep the army at bay. Team 2 drops off west of the secondary port and goes towards the compound lighting the forest alight as they go so it spreads behind them. 6 archers stay at the edge of the compound and bombard it with flaming arrows, retreating if melee soldiers close in too much and returning to continue bombarding. the rest circle and attack the compound in the flank to rescue the hostages. Once the hostages are secured, they head to the supply port and take down the small force of russians there. The naval galley goes to the harbor at the army base and rescues the bodyguard remnants and whats left of team 1 which will rendezvous at the harbor after landing south of it. Morning Glory will go to the supply port for the team 2 and hostages. Expect heavy casualties on both sides but if properly executed they will be almost totally wiped out and we will sustain less than half of our force hurt or dead. The crew of the galley can offer supporting fire on the army base with any arrows it has on board in an emergency.

COA #7-

Daylight assault on the compound. Team 1 takes supply port and continues to attack the compound. Team 2 will take secondary assault port and enter the forest, lighting as much of the forest alight as possible to make the option of the army following them impossible without VERY heavy casualties due to burns. Team 2 will then head to the compound and hit the force there from behind and eliminate the entire force there. The hostages will be secured and both teams will retreat to the now empty supply port where the Morning Glory is waiting. This is in the case that the bodyguards cant come from russia in time, or peter gets suspicious of them leaving.

COA #6 - You're making 3 teams again. The third team is the bodyguards, and I think LH doesn't want three teams.

COA #7 - A lot better than COA #6, but keep in mind the army will not only be following the teams, they will be in front of them as well. If even one Russian manages to escape and get to Team #2, they will be trapped between an advancing wall of fire and an angry unit. Not a good position to be in.

OOC: I think we're ignoring the fact that Arya can't die, right?

On the comments: I will post my tech plan when this is over. Excuse me, but i am entirely focusing on this crisis.

I am considering to give them writing to stall for time and let my bodyguards leave peacefully for this operation. I hope i wont have to but if it comes to not being able to get the hostages out, then i may have to so my bodyguards can have a shot at it.

MN- How would you run a simulation with this kind of thing?

Ilduce: I do not have BTS. Can you explain teh espionage system to me once this calms down?

LH- If russia declares war, would you consider using WB to give us temporary protection for this war? Like maybe 2 archers per city on the continent and maybe some walls too? They would go away once it ends. It just seems gamey to leave us near defenseless during a war dont you think?

About the tech plan: Yeah, sorry, I posted at the same time as the Czar's demand. Don't bother right now.

GIVE THEM WRITING????? This just shows how weak the current administration is and how easily they give in to Russian demands. Also, the people back in England will be furious at how the president they had voted for had just given up the technology that they had spent years perfecting. Do you want to look like cowards?

About the simulation, I created an island with a bunch of hills using WB, added a bunch of Russian units where they should be according to the map, a Russian city in the middle to represent the prison, and added the two teams. I then played turns according to how our attack should go. It serves no real purpose other than to be a visualization of the attack.

About the plea for units, unless Russia is WBed units, they will not have too much of a threatening attack. We will probably be able to build something in our undefended cities before any of his units even arrive!

On COA#7 Comment: How will the army be in front of us? The men in the ports will all die, and the fire cuts off the compound from the army base without severe chaos in the ranks in which case they will be disorganize denough for us to deal with them. The compound should easily fall as the night eagles are better trained and the compound will be in chaos from the fire and such. plus they will be outnumberd. Roughly 2 to 1 depending on the amount in the compound and our losses. All in all i think this is one of the better plans.

On COA#6 Comments: I am not making 3 teams out of the night eagles. I am using the 2 teams lighthearter gave and the bodyguards are being used as one 30 man unit. This is assuming they can get out of moscow. Armitage can dissapear into the city to 'take in the sights' as he commented on wanting to do earlier in negotiations and the bodyguards can leave while the president is somewhat hidden from peter. LH can deal with 3 teams if we can get the bodyguards out. Otherwise i think its pretty sound.

OOC: My character can die. I will just appear as someone other than John Arya Armitage, but i will still have the name arya in it. Maybe i will continue as a son.

Lt. Athers here, Mr. President. I like your plans, I really do. If I am so ordered I will execute them. However, there is one issue with all of them. They're too complicated. No matter how good my boys are, NO PLAN SURVIVES CONTACT WITH THE ENEMY. Someone's going to misinterpret a signal or execute the wrong order at the wrong time or such. We have no time to train either. I'd love to try these plans in a wargames environment but I think this mission is too crucial to risk with such a new tactic that could easily get the whole unit killed.

COA#6 -
1) - Fire is inherently uncontrollable.
2) - What do the archers do if the enemy actively pursues them into the woods?
3) - How can you guarantee that the hostages won't be hit by your flaming arrows?
4) - Every man lost here is another point to the Greenies(no offense to MathNerd).
5) - Peter's not going to let you send anyone out of the city until you give him what he wants.

COA#7 -
1) - Daylight means we lose the element of surprise, as they will see us coming.
2) - The Russian ship, the Ulyanovsk, is still here somewhere and might see us and knock us out.

You'll be able to put in some bills in Congress.:goodjob:

i leave to make breakfast and this is what i come back to sigh -.- gime a few minutes to catch up

He might get rome inn the war too though. Dont forget about the Buddhist Bloc. Its like a religious comintern in europe. Also, whatever we build might not be enough. For all we know he could be sending 3 20+ stacks towards us. So lets prepare for the worst.

Also heres a little quote for GreenPeace that might help avoid this situation in the future: "To secure peace, prepare for war".

COA #7 Comment: "will die"? They probably will not all die. Keep in mind, even if just one Russian escapes, he will just climb a tree and pick off the Eagles who would be running from a fire.

COA #6 Comment: I see. It will be very difficult to get the body guards out of Moscow, especially with LH acting as the Czar.

Also heres a little quote for GreenPeace that might help avoid this situation in the future: "To secure peace, prepare for war".

There is no need for this sort of motto. Just get a few warriors/archers out and be done. Why is everyone freaking out about this war?

Unless LH, of course, WBs them a tank or something...

I say we go with COA 3 or COA 7, unless your have narrowed it down.

Also MN simply defending wont do, why would we go to war if we sit there and achieve nothing? Our point is to show the russians we can stand up for ourselves, simply sitting there is the same as if we did nothing.

COA #6 concerns-
1. Fire is our greatest ally. It is unpredictable so neither us nor the enemy can predict it. But we have better training and better officers. They will react to a situation better than the russians.

2. They keep running. Maybe circle back, or mislead the pursuers into thinking they ran into the aproaching fire so that they retreat back to the compound. Anyway they will likely stay at their posts so they areant lured out and flanked. Thats what a good commander would do.

3. We cant. So we will only aim at targets we have sights on and only shoot at veiled targets shold worst come to worst or if our archers are extremely confident they can make the shots. I trust their judgment if they are as good as you say.

4. Every man russia loses is a point to us and a hit to peter as well. We must choose our enemies here. Is our enemy the greenies or russia?

5. Then we can pretend to give him what he wants. Fake how to write. Maybe show him how to scracth rocks with sticks. Or maybe to use blood. That will turn him off from the tech if he needs to use his own blood to write. Make up an alphabet. John Arya Armitage is smart. He will figure something out.

COA #7 Concerns-
1. We will not lose surprise because who would expect an invasion in broad daylight? We will just have to be extra quick. Keep them on the run, cause chaos, maybe even put some arrows into the army compound from the ships crew after the alarm has been raised. Strike at dawn so nobody is alert as they would be at midday. The shifts will be changing as well so one half would be half alert, the other exhausted from the night shift.

2. I can commit the galley staioned in St. petersburg to the operation if needed to watch the surrounding seas for teh ship with the strange name. By the time anyone asks why it has left or peter has been alerted of its departure, its job will already be underway and we can come up with some kind of excsue. 2 ships to one with a boarding force ready in the form of the night eagles after the operation should be good odds.

Oh, so now i have to go through congress? You know i will never get anything done with the greenies there!
