So, college is out and I now have a lot of time to waste. Seemingly, MMORPG's are a great time waster. I've played World of Warcraft... didn't like it. So anyone have any recommendations other than WoW as to MMORPG's?
well there is runescape thats a free mmorpg
then theres guild wars which cost no money to play monthly once you buy the game there is no pay
then theres silkroad online which is another MMORPG but its mostly grinding
then Age of cohan which is comeing out this summer and ive heard that its gonna be a great game
the first everquest which is very dated but....
i guess thats it and what do you mean you dont like wow can i have your account then plz
If u want something with more action then try Diablo 2 with expansion. It STILL has alot of players online, but I guess it would be more of an action RPG than a MMORPG. I much prefer diablo style RPGs too WoW style ones.

If you like space games, maybe try EVE Online... (http://www.eve-online.com/). It is probably the most complex MMORPG in existence - it can take years to learn everything there is to know about the game. But you are the one saying you have a lot of time to waste, so maybe it's worth a shot! The best part of the game is the PvP - get into some corporation/alliance wars and you can really have a lot of fun. And if you don't like PvP you can always play in an industrial/manufacturing/mining corporation. There's heaps of backstory if you really want to get into that - but I find alliance warfare more interesting and watching corporations rise and fall. Anyhow, you mayaswell download it and give the 14-day free trial a go....
Guild Wars is the best one this side of Warcraft. Great graphics, interface, and no monthly payments. Plus the game is freaking huge.
With 3.5 million people, it's second behind WoW. I played it for a while until I tried out WoW, now I have to decide which one to play, since playing both is not possible.
Let me correct that, I'm looking for something with a lot of Backstory. Not something with a plot that moves on as you develop, but something that has a lot to discover.

I've stopped playing it, but it entertained me for a couple of years, and best of all you can play the basic game for free.
The game has plenty of backstory, though the best of backstory is out of the game I think. There is a mini tv series, a novel, news stories and magazines. There are many NPCs, quests, in game events and locations that do have stories as well. (though the best of the story quests and locations are in the Shadowlands expansion which you can't play for free). The great backstory was one of the reasons I liked the game so much, however I think some of the best story elements were written out of the story or make rare updates.
Well although I personally would never pay to play it, from seeing friends play, WoW seems to have tons of backstory, hundreds of quests, and a giant world to explore and discover. Still IMO not worth the money when there are free games out there. You could just spend your time playing cIV after all.
Guild Wars is a good game, though it doesn't feel quite like a proper MMORPG to me (not, admittedly, that I've had much experience in the genre). It's fairly friendly, and I enjoy playing it as a RPG with online elements.
I recently reinstalled it in order to stop myself buying Lord of the Rings Online, the beta of which I very much enjoyed. Would recommend either to you
