Recommend me a game thread

Pseudo-historical grand strategy games. Terrible quality on release but become amazing with patches and expansions. Known for treating their fanbase with a ton of respect. You can get them on the very cheap too.

Terrible quality on release hasn't been a thing in 2 years.

Anyone managed to get Far Cry 2 yet and want to tell me what they think of it? May be the first new guy I buy in the last year and a half.

Do you mean Far Cry 2 or Far Cry 3?

I'm going to assume the latter, which I haven't played yet, but based on various reviews, gameplay videos and general user feedback it seems like a great open world game with a crazy awesome villain but (some?) enemy bases are taken over by friendlies once you clear them and the gunplay is extremely arcadey. PLus it has Ubisoft's Uplay crap on it.

Yeah the latter. Like I said I've been watching Hannah from the yogscast play it and it seems fun, but Hannah's craptacular gaming skills make it slightly difficult to gauge. The villain does seem fun though. I'd be getting it on ecksbawcks so I don't really care about Uplay.

Probably as much as a copy of ET, which is to say, the price of a shovel.

Are there any good newer buisness sims to the tune of old tycoon games, capitalism II, etc?

All I see are awfull attempts to cash in on the "Tycoon" name or targeted at elementary schoolers.

Is this genre dead?

Not dead, but definitely on life support. You might try looking into the Anno series, or some of Paradox Interactive's releases.

What does the N stand for? Actually, just what in general. Your sentence is factually incorrect, among other things.

That would make sense if IMHO didn't mean "in my honest opinion."

That big bright ball of fire in the sky that lights the "outside" world. Personally I think it is just a myth and I heard that it gives you cancer.

Never played them myself, but it seems to be a GameBoy game series.

Two on GBA and one for DS. DS game is easier and stuff, but I waited 7 years for it, so I'm a bit biased when I say it's super fun. Turn-based JRPG with fun puzzles and a reasonable amount of unreasonable spikey and/or colored hair (and all associated negative tropes). Combat is fun because there are djinn (gotta catch em all) which boost stats (only way to level up your class), but can also be used to attack with (though some can buff, heal, or do a few other things). Used djinn can be further used to call forth badass summons who do a crapload of damage. Also unique weapons have unique criticals. Some of the crits and all but the first tier of the summons are purdy.

Port Royale 3 looks similar to Pirates. On the other hand, I tend to get bored with Kalypso games fairly quickly, probably because I need a central plot or something to keep me focused. I don't really know. Maybe I just don't like the graphics team. Regardless, it looks like each side has up to three ships in battle, and I suck at managing more than one ship.

I guess the real question here is how fun is it?
