I started a game as Portugal and the Almohads seemed very easy to beat as their armies are similar in format to the 'Greek' armies in Rome Total War. Lots of spearman, few or no archers or cavalry. Also they seem to build peasants which I don't really understand. The battles still seem to be over pretty quickly and it is annoying that the AI will not always attack when they are the attacking side.

PIRATES!
A pirate attacked and destroyed our fleet before half of it was even launched! This is a great setback for our navy. Especialy since they are now blockading the port! (The pirates disappear after a few turns).
SIEGE!
The castle of Santiago is captured easily. (I accidently autoed the battle)
EXCOMMUNICATION!
New oppertunities to expand northward into France arrive when the Pope excommunicates France and the Holy Roman Empire.
Expansion East!
King Scamp, Prince Metromonkey and General Sirtommygun lay siege to the city of Barcelona.* Three siege rams were swiftly constructed and the attack commenced one cloudy night.
Our spy managed to open the gates and the enemy pulled most of it's forces back to the town square. Having abandoned two of the rams to send those tropps through the gates the third one smashes down a section of the wall to the right and allows the gate's defender's to be flanked.
The enemy pulled back to the square and created a spear wall across the street.
Vicious spear-to-spear fighting ensues.
The archers behind my spearmen rain down fire on the enemy!
Deciding that the infantry had taken more than enough casaulties and that the enemy was severely weakend, Prince Metromonkey leads the calvarly charge as the infantry fall back, utterly crushing the enemy troops.
The city has fallen.
The Kingdom of Leon & Castille now covers all of northern Iberia.
Where should we attack next? My army is almost finished refitting and France is fair game due to the crusade, Toulouse and Pois look like good castles to take to secure our northern border. Or should we declare war on the Ahmahad Emprie and drive them out of Ibera one and for all?
* I'm going to have to write down the names of the charactors in-game and their corresponding AAR names since you cannot rename them >_<. I encourage you to add your own charactor RPs to this.

We are doing quite well with the pope despite not joining in the crusade. France recaptured Toulouse from Venice somehow though. I didn't check again, but in 1108 France was at war with Venice, Sicily, Holy Roman, England, Hungary and the italian States (Milan).
EDIT: I won't be able to play the game on Tuesday to Thursday so I'm going to post the update I just did tomorrow. As such I am PMing the extra updates to myself and I'll post them at my leisure to ensure updates when i am at my dad's.
