Recruiting for 5-6 player FFA, regular time, days flexible

Well, this game has come to its somewhat expected conclusion.

I knew when The Oob entered the modern era that the time for invasions was past--I expected any further tries to get munched by mech infantry. This last session I made a last ditch (and first!) effort to try to take down Rob, his ally through the game, so zalta and I might have a chance versus the mighty England. England came to help though and managed to destroy a couple infantry which might've meant the fall of America if they'd made it ashore to assist the other infantry and artillery that did. Even if that'd worked, I suspect England was far enough ahead in tech and production that she would've emerged victorious even in a 2v1 situation.

Well played, guys. It was a matter of time, we all conceded to our naval overload, The Oob.

For anyone who may be lurking waiting for the next one...I'll post again here with a link to the new thread when I start it, sometime in the next week or so. I've had enough of 4-man games, so I'll take the time to set up a 6-man game, and won't run it with less this time.

I think you've already figured this out but now that the game is over, my own iron supplies were actually pretty crap (only 2 on my mainland), to get the other 8 I had to ally with a city state and found the colony of Canterbury.

You could have landed troops on my shores pretty easily, the trick was to take a longer route rather than crossing the obvious 'English channel' between our continents; I didn't have ships ringed around England, in hindsight I should have built a few caravels just to act as a sensor net. That said you probably would have had difficulty holding any of my cities as they were all coastal, so I could have defended/recaptured them with my navy.

I had a pretty crap army the whole game, and instead focused all that production on my economy and navy, and burnt all my great generals to help with that. Would be nice if naval warfare granted you great admirals :)

Yes, the longer route did cross my mind as probably the best for surprise, but I believe you already had 5+ Ships of the Line ruling the waves by then...so the longer the sea journey, the higher the risk of complete failure.

Nope, never figured out your iron situation. My scouting was pretty crap. I never even saw London or Tenochtitlan.

If there were Great Admirals, they should be banned for England!

Again, well played. I won't be messing around with culture wins in MP again.

Well played indeed. :) Afterwards I think what hurt me most was that I was too greedy most of the game (esp. concerning Washington) and lost way too many land units. I was thus never able to do any meaningful invasions when we finally had a brief naval window of opportunity. :) I never got the tech lead either, even though I tried, and also too little scouting never revealed your Iron problem, unfortunately; the colony and the city state would have been primary targets otherwise. Should have saved my units when they weren't behind in tech and done something against the English, instead of wasting them on the American Maginot. :) That'll teach me to go iron duck.
