From: Nationalist Republic of Spain
To: Republic of France and people of Spain
To reply to France's "unkind" (to say the least) remarks, we shall say this:
First, we said Portugal betrayed us. We did not say that they aided the Moors. Portugal was originally a fiefdom of Leon, as the County of Portus Cale centered around Oporto. However, they rebelled. The King of Leon sent an army to surpress the rebellion, but the Portugese, aided by the English, defeated the army. Thus, by this revolution, the Portugese betrayed the idea of Iberian unity.
Second, our flag indeed bears the royal crown and coat of arms... of the noble HAPSBURGS, not the corrupt Bourbons. This is to recall the golden age that Spain endured during the 16th century, when the saying went "The sun never sets on the Spanish Empire." Those were the days when we controlled the wealth of America, and all Europe bent to our will. On the other hand, the Bourbons were weak, ineffective, and unable to even support its own crown on its own head.
Third, the French people did indeed suffer during the French Revolution. However, a side-effect of this was the second invasion of Spain by France, when the tyrant Bonaparte invaded in the name of "liberty, equality, and fraternity"--which, may I remind you, is still the motto of the Republic--and set up his own relative, Joseph, as king. Even the Bourbons were more desirable than this fellow, which proves what quality of leadership France has. France has invaded us three times, and three times we shall drive them back!
Fourth, we have always wanted peace with our neighbors. The "controversial" message to Portugal was not intended to insult them, rather to assure them that we would not attack then as they have now maliciously and hastily done to us.
Fifth, we are opposed to France's single-handed wresting of control of the EDL, as their President would use it as a method of destroying us and all that we stand for, and indeed dominating all Europe. We all know that President de Gualle is a great admirer of Napoleon Bonaparte...
