AMERICAN ELECTION NEARS! The American election will arrive in only 4 months(2 turns). Campaigns have come into full swing. The party conventions have come out with whos running. The Republican convention took 2 votes, but Robert Alphonso Taft has been made presidential candidate with Dwight Eisenhower as his running mate. The main cause was although Eisenhower was a general during the Pacific war, his only command was that of a late 1944 offensive in China. Other then that he waw little command experience. Robert Taft however had been a senator and representative with much political background. The Democrats however took 3 votes and have come up with Adlai Ewing Stevenson, governor of Illinois. He has chosen John Jackson Sparkman to be his running mate. John Sparkman is a former representative and current Senator of Alabama. It is unsure how this election will play out.
ECONOMIC REFORMS! Much of Europe enlarges its economy as reforms are introduced.
INDOCHINA FREED! France has given up control of Indochina almost completely. The new nations of Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam have been formed. Vietnam is the only communist nations out of the 3. The city of Hanoi still lays in French hands as is the agreement.
GERMANY REBUILDS! Germany has begun to rebuild its economy and industry with the construction of a grand docks and propaganda center.
RESEARCH! Sweden has done much research recently, trying to modernize the nation. Sweden and the UK have also both, separately, developed Nuclear Reactors. With Computers and Reactors Nuclear Power can be created. It will require a little research however. Many suspect nuclear power could drive ships and power entire cities. (Sweden will have London Tanks, as will Spain now. As will any light tank with improved armor. This is for simplicity.) The UK has quickly sold the designs for the reactor to America for 30 wc.
LARGE MILITARY BUILDUP: The UK has enlisted over 75,000 modern infantry recently. The UK is sure a war will start very soon. Many analysts fear that Britains Infantry oriented army will not stand up to a modern battle.
MIDDLE-EAST NEAR WAR! Britain has set free Israel and has signed an MPP with it. Most Arabs in Israel have stayed as asked. About 50,000 leave however as they do not like the new rule. They have taken up residence in west Jordan. Britain has not however let the rest of Transjordan or the middle east free. In order to keep peace, Britain has sent 20,000 troops. Not yet wanting to openly rebel, the Iraqis have begun to use the same tactics of Syria. Iraqi terrorists(a new name designated to this type of warfare) has tried to explode a bomb outside of Big Ben. British security and police, now the tightest in the world(thanks to Irish attacks) easily caught the man. MI6 suspects NPA or Warsaw pact involvement.
NUCLEAR RESEARCH RESUMES! Yugoslavia has begun Nuclear Research. As another nation researches the ability to build an atom bomb, the world hold its breath. The USSR is, allowing this action. Meanwhile the USA has begun to protest this.
INDONESIA BEGINS REVOLT! Indonesia has begun open revolt against the Netherlands. It demands immediate independence. The Dutch has asked the NPA for advice and help in the matter.

We challenge your right to annex Southern Spain to yourself unless you can provide a reasonable explanation. Why would a nation whose people are more culturally tied to their own land and heritage choose to place itself under the rule of a distant government? We somehow suspect that this was more something arranged by politicians than the will of the people.
Therefore, we propose a plebiscite to be held in Southern Spain, w/ 3 choices listed:
