Just wanted to know if anyone else is getting this graphical glitch, and if there's a fix. Basically, when zoomed out, some tiles turn into a red/white checkerboard. Not sure if my cards overheating or what. Lowered graphics options to low/medium and it still happened.

Thx for the reply Enchanter. I'm playing Civ5 on my HP pavillion DVy laptop. It has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. My dxdiag is telling me my last driver date was 2-8-09, but I don't think there are newer drivers for this card. Anybody with some technical skill please help, I'm having a blast playing my campaign.....

I get this too, and it seems to only happen around tundra. Also getting red and white dots on some desert and tundra tiles too. Video card is Nvidia 8800GTS 640mb

I have an hp laptop with a 3200m and I use the newer drivers straight from AMD/ATI. Just go to their website and choose mobility. You don't have to use the ones from HP, especially since they are over a year old Mine were also from Hp..

I only get it starting at around turn number 275 and only with a highly loaded terrain, so I suspect that it is a problem of memory limit or allocation in the graphics card. I believe it is the base terrain object, and it has square tiles bearing the checkerboard pattern. That pattern, in some DX contexts, might indicate that the base terrain (which contains the mountain contours) is itself untextured.

I now got same screenshot:

and 3 more here.

2 completely different system:
Intel Core 2Quad Q8300 2,5GHZ
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 Bit
GF GTS250

And:
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 245 Processor
3 GB RAM
XP SP3
ATI Radeon HD 5800

i have the red bit on tundra like you lot also the checkered board effect after about 2hours playing and i also keep having units like ghosts on my screen they follow it every where some times it will copy the whole city i am looking at then it will be in the centre of my screen where ever i move around the map then all of a sudden the units disappear. im running a system that runs at 36c and i have a ati hd5450 with 1gb ddr3 and have 2gig ram and a AMD Athlon 64X2 duel core 5000+ 2.61 GHz. xp pro service pack 3 very latest ati drivers for graphics card and also motherboard drivers are latest ones im also running a sata western digital drive so its a quick one 7000rpm i think. i run at 1360x768 so no where near maxing the card out. guys there is a great bit of free software that tells you the temp of ur pc including hard drive temp its called speedfan

From here, try this:
Go to the computer control panel (or however this is named in english, where you can also uninstall software, that menu), -> display -> properties -> advanced -> problem handling -> remove the tick at "Write Combining".

Translation of the menu points is probably not accurate, please use your mind a bit if you can't find the exact things ;).

Hello all!

A new problem has arisen for me.
after a time of playing the graphic acts up.
the islands is covered by a "chessboard" of red and white squares. what the hell.
this is when i run it on dx9
i tried to take a screen from it but that picture shows only the intro movie, WTH! haha.

i have win 7
when i try to run it in dx11 i see black lines all over the islands.

my grapics card is a geforce GTX 260
does that card suck?

if so, what card do you fine gentlemen and ladies recommend that i buy?

does anyone have the same problem as me and what did you do to correct it?

i can only skip the intro movie if i press esc, space as a madman and at the same time clicking all over, haha. maybe thats crazy but it eventually stops that damn movie.

Unfortunately you cannot change the write combining setting in Vista/Win7 due to the "new and improved" driver model ;)

I use a GTX260, too and those graphics corruptions appear if the tesselation is set to "low". Try medium instead.

And yes, the 260 and all nvidia cards that are based on the g80 chip architecture apparently suck at civ5 :(

You get the most bang for the buck in civ5 with a GTX460-768MB.

That's just a dinnertable rug the size of North-America, so?

What occurs when you scroll in our out when you see something like that occur?

For a solution see above.

And while one of the devs is here: The bug is commented somewhere in the lua files of the game, one modder dug it out, but damn, i can't find that post anymore.
