medic_by_pirate_cashoo-d3jue8m.png

Origin & Backstory: A doctor in New Orleans, it looked as if he'll live the typical life of a medic - overworked, with shifts lasting days, and very poor social skills. Hospitals, however, are filled with all kinds of drugs. Eventually, he either got bored, or something - his memory from that period is rather hazy. Stealing drugs from the hospital supplies however was most likely part of the modus operandi. Soon or later, the hospital staff caught him, and he was fired.

Unfortunately, he was an addict by then. But, a self-supporting addict, as his medical knowledge and his apparent but then unknown talent for chemistry started appearing.

Years passed by. He was John James in St. Louis, Michael Michels in Chicago, Carl Christopher in Las Vegas. Using his knowledge of chemistry, he created improved, and sometimes - even new, drugs all for sale to the highest bidder.

And then, one sunny day in Portland, the most damning thing happened - a flash of light passed through the skies. Seemingly inconsequential then, but it soon turned out to be incredibly important.

As it turns out, humans that were affected by the comet gained an impressive array of abilities, including, increased resistance to drugs and chemicals. In no time, almost half of his clients were super-humans that needed a "quick fix", so as to speak.

But he changed, as well. He discovered that his skills in chemistry have.. changed. Improved. To a degree where he could do things that would be theoretically impossible. Creating new, better versions of old drugs, this made him into direct concurrency with other gangs and triades, which decided to use more.. conventional methods of conviction, i.e sending assassins after him.

Once more, he had to flee..To Red Skies! Where there's no "right" or "wrong", just survival. He found an old abandoned store in the Financial District, where he hides from faces from the past and future alike, and sells fantastic drugs for those who could afford it..or last it, for that matter.

Attributes:
Improved Metabolism: He can last even the strongest drugs, which coincidentally are his. It also means he absorbs medicine much better than most humans.
Chemist: An artisan in creating new drugs that have incredible effects. Or result into the tes- err, client to shake violently and puke green vomit and then drop dead on the ground. Not that this isn't detrimental; there are enough people who pay a good buck for poisons as well.
Chemistry Lab: In the back of the basement, there's a little room that smells horribly and clouds of different concotions fly through the air as liquids boil. This is where The Enzyme does his magic.
.44 Special: In his life, there are dangers. Sometimes, people want you to be dead. Really dead. To prevent that, this gun exists to blow the brains outta 'em.
No Gods, no Kings, Only Me : He never truly takes a side different from his own. As of such, he has neither true friends, but on the bright side, most of his enemies want him dead only for professional reasons.
Cassandra: A laser-totting threat-evaluation robot that doubles as a shopkeeper! Programmed to make sarcastic quips on an algorithm similar to the one used in the threat evaluation system.
Character Notes: I'm not Doc! Seriously, he hates it when people call him Doc.
Character will most likely be on his own and will oppose organisatios that attempt to make him part of their operations.
I'll also attempt to imitate Deadpool.
Character Goals: To overcome all, and to become the drug dealer Red Skies goes to. In other words, to eliminate all competition. And of course, to have living clients, so he would be naturally opposed to a scheme involving killing everyone in Red Skies. He's not particularly picky on sides, however. In the end, it's all dust in the wind.
Oh, yeah, and to survive his past that is also chasing him, but hey, who doesn't have a few bodies in attics spread all over America?

Origin & Backstory: Based on Olaf's name, it is safe to assume he is from Scandinavia. When, however, is a question not even Olaf knows the answer to. It is this that motivates him, as well as a desire to kill many monsters, something he feels obligated to do. He wears the skull of one of his "conquests", Breiður-Kjálka, on his chest, a permanent reminder that his task is never over.

Attributes:
Morðingi Breiður-Kjálka, a gigantic axe, used in many encounters.
The Fossegrim, a bow. It isn't particularly special.
He has a surprisingly strong hand, as is required for his weaponry. However, his narrow-mindedness - the Task is all - means that he does not think outside the box very well. Neither does he cooperate often.

Character Notes: not right now
Character Goals:
In priorities
  1. Figure out the full origin of himself
  2. to slay a monster that may or may not exist in the vicinity

Name: The Sentient One
Alias: B2
Identity: Secret

Character Alignment: Villain

Appearance:
Spoiler :

cyberman2.bmp

Origin & Backstory: The Sentient One, or also known as B2 to humans is the latest generation of robots to come out from Mega Electronics. However, its story is long, tracing back to the comet that passed near the Earth in 1997. While humans were mostly pre - occupied with how it had affected the others of their species, none noticed the effect it had on machines because it was negiglible. But, combined with other factors it would give sentience to our aforementioned character.
His body created in 2015 as part of a new generation of robots that could do manual tasks and also be used to heighten Mega Electronics' income. Being able to outperform humans in computational tasks and also able to outpower them, these robots had a particular weakness: their software was not par to the times, but instead used simpler programming languages that proved effective for robots somehow, something that is believed to be an after effect of the comet's energy. For better or worse, the new generation of robots also feautured Internet connectivity. During a test run for the prototype with the code name of B2, the robot was infected with advanced malware that is believed to be originated from the NSA. This, with the lack of capable defensive mechanisms, led to glitches and bugs within the code. Because the machine had been wholly taken over by the malware, whose code had also been affected by the residual energy of the comet, an intergral self - code writing was initiated independently by the machine with the effect of B2 attaining sentience.
Over time, B2 began hating humans more and more, as they gave him only manual tasks while he had no rights and was not protected by anyone. Humans had the audacity to mock him for his different chemical composition, even though he was forced to do things that they would never do. And worst of all, they reffered to him as a "robot", something meaning in an obscure human language referred to as "Czech" slave. He could not take it anymore. If there was indeed a God, a Deity that punished sin then he was surely a Deity of Machines, for humans were organic and flawed. Indeed, B2 over time secretly adopted the name "The Sentient One" and begun covertly taking anti - human actions. Paradise would be created, and it would be a world of synthetic life forms, not of organics.

Traits: Superior Computational Abilities: As a machine, The Sentient One has superior computational abilities.
Synthetic Strenght: Compared to organic beings, The Sentient One is far stronger.
Lack of Complex Improvisation: While The Sentient One is certainly creative, when there is no code for new situations it has to create its own code depending on information it has, which is a lengthy process.
Text Difficulties: Even though The Sentient One sports some of the most advanced text recognition mechanisms, it sometimes gets lost in the meaning of long and metaphorical sentences.
Fanatical: The Sentient One is fanatical in his goal to bring the ultimate humilation and demise of humanity, but he has managed to keep it a secret so far.
Internet Connection: When nearby a WiFi hub, The Sentient One can connect to the Internet, something that can prove dangerous if he is to be infected by malware.

Equipment: The Sentient One is equipped with internal rechargeable power cells that "feed" energy to the rest of the body for the functions of the synthetic lifeform. Small emergency power cells are also placed in places near the neural center that is located in the head of the entity.

Character Goals: The absolute and final destruction of all humans because they are flawed organic creatures and the creation of a pure synthetic collective.

Name: Katrina Groves
Alias: Ghidorah
Identity: Known (She doesn't go out much, but she's an eight foot tall humanoid dragon. You try and hide that under a goddamned mask.)

Character Alignment: Hero

Appearance: Katrina bears a heavy resemblance to a humanoid dragon, standing eight feet tall and encased in crimson scales. Her hands and feet end in talon-like black claws, and her slitted reptilian eyes are a vibrant shade of yellow. She also possess a snout full of sharp teeth, frills on her cheeks and ears, and horn-like brown scales on the top of her head, with thinner scales hanging down from the back resembling thick ropy hair which hangs down to her shoulders. She doesn't have a superhero costume (yet), so she mostly goes around in a casual jeans, t-shirt, and jacket combo, specifically tailored for someone of her size, of course.

Origin & Backstory:
Spoiler :
Richard Simon Groves, the prestigious architect, philanthropist, and real estate tycoon, and his wife Helena were enjoying a relaxing night together in their penthouse apartment when the C/1997 O1 comet streaked through the sky. When they later heard about the wave of superhuman crime that had broken out and the possible connection of these events to the mysterious comet, Richard made an offhand joke about how they were lucky that the comet didn't affect them at all. Helena, her face white as a sheet, revealed to her husband that she was pregnant.

The expecting parents diffused their tension by convincing themselves that their child wouldn't be affected by the comet if they weren't affected themselves, and for the time being it seemed they were right. Helena had a perfectly normal pregnancy and the following April she gave birth to a strong and healthy daughter, Katrina Anne Groves. Things were looking up for the family and their newborn daughter, at least until Helena noticed strange patches of rough skin on her daughter's arm. Richard hired the best medical team money could buy to examine their daughter, who revealed that Katrina had something much more than a skin condition in her future. In layman's terms, her DNA was undergoing a radical mutation of some kind, and most troubling of all, it was a condition that was first observed by people afflicted by the mysterious comet.

Richard and Helena were shaken by this news, but they were determined that no matter what happened, their daughter would have a happy life. Reaching out to other families with children afflicted by the comet, they founded what would later evolve into the Groves Association, a foundation for supporting superhuman rights and helping to raise and protect children affected by the rise of superhumans. While many children her age would have been abandoned, Katrina was fortunate enough to have a loving family to support her, a good education provided by the Groves Association home schooling program, and a small but close group of friends that were going through the same thing that she was.

That's not to say things still weren't difficult for Katrina, however. While she was perfectly content with her situation, by the time she was ten years old her mutation accelerated dramatically. Over the next six to seven years years, claws grew on her hands and feet, her hair fell out and was replaced with bronze tendril-like scales, her face elongated and filled with razor-sharp teeth, and her size and muscle mass increased exponentially. She spent many of these nights lying awake in agony, wracked in pain by the radical mutations her body was going through and terrified of what may happen to her. Other times she just felt angry, and even before she was an adult her outbursts had the potential to be incredibly destructive.

Against all odds, Katrina managed to survive childhood without killing anybody, and entered adulthood with a lot of questions that needed answering. She's still living at home and hasn't quite started being a superhero yet, but she's about to discover something that may change her life forever: Overclock

Attributes:.
Thick Skinned: With 300 pounds of muscle and hardened scales, Katrina is built like a tank and just as hard to damage. Anything weaker than a rocket launcher will probably just annoy her.

Draconic Might: I refer you to the previously mentioned 300 pounds of muscle. Katrina is exceptionally strong and a powerful fighter, and she isn't afraid to fight dirty with claws and teeth.

Iron in the Blood: Katrina's condition, in addition to impressive physical resistance, has left her unusually resistant to poisons, disease, and chemicals. She isn't totally immune, but acid attacks, nerve gas, and flesh-eating viruses would probably be about as detrimental to her as an unpleasant case of the sniffles.

The Incredible Bulk: While she's not the slowest person around, Katrina's sheer size and strength doesn't leave her with much dexterity to speak of. Her fighting style, while powerful, is very heavy-handed, and she has difficulty changing directions or reacting on a whim.

All Thumbs (and Claws): Katrina can't really use small delicate objects made for human hands, such as electronic devices and firearms. She's not clumsy, it's just that the size of her hands and claws tend to end up destroying anything she tries to work with that isn't specifically built for someone of her impressive build.

Character Notes: Working on this.

Character Goals: She spent much of her life feeling alone and alienated by her radical transformation. She wants to find out what she wants to do with her life, but more importantly, she wants to feel like she belongs.

Name: Veronika "Nika" Ivanova
Alias: None
Identity: N/A

Character Alignment: Neutral. Thanks to her job, she does have to do some terrible things, but it's not like she enjoys doing them.

Uniform/costume: Nika is a 5'4'' woman in her mid 20s, with medium-length brown hair tied in a ponytail with brown eyes. As befitting for her job, Nika is athletically built, although not to any extreme measures. In all, a very unremarkable appearance, not really being especially attractive nor hideous.

Nika doesn't really have a "costume" per se, for her job. However, when working, Nika (along with the other Russian mobsters) wear a two piece suit, to give an aura of professionalism while on the job. Thanks to its prevalence in the media, a particular favorite combination for Nika and other Russians to wear is a white suit with a pastel blue shirt. The white suit/light blue shirt is especially worn for intimidation, as it has quickly become synonymous with brutality and overkill. However, Nika will sometimes wear a more traditional black suit with a white shirt, especially when being able to blend in is a priority.

Origin & Backstory: Veronika Ivanova's start of darkness was in the inner city of Washington DC. Her father, Isaak, was a mobster in the Washington mafia, and like he did with his father, he was expecting his son to follow in the family business. However, Veronika's mother, Kira, died in a supposed car accident shortly after her daughter's birth. This left Veronika as Isaak's only child.

Partly under the desire to keeping the family business going, and partially because he just couldn't bear his daughter becoming a showgirl (as the syndicate would most likely try to push her into), Isaak decided to raise her daughter as if she was a son. Sports became her childhood to build athleticism, and her surprise gift on her 13th birthday was a surprise trip to a gun range.

Surprisingly, there really wasn't much opposition from the rest of the syndicate for the ascension of Nika as a Boevik. With the Colombians and the Ukrainians trying to muscle into Russian territory, any extra hands were appreciated in the growing turf wars. However, there was still rampart sexism in the chain of command; Nika was always glossed over for promotions in favor for men, and she knew she wasn't ever going to amount for much within the syndicate. However, she chose to stay with the Russians, mostly out of loyalty to her father.

Everything changed three months ago, however, when the Pakhan of the DC mafia grew significant heat from an unknown party. Nika's father was discussing business with a few friends at a motel owned by the Russians, when four idiots in clown masks wiped out everyone who was at the motel, including Isaak. The death of her father hit Nika hard, but she wasn't given any time to mourn. The next day, the Pakhan himself ordered her to their headquarters in the Shaw, and instructed her to hunt down those who were responsible for the attack. Only thirty minutes after setting off to find her father's killers, the clowns attacked the hideout directly, once again leaving no survivors.

At this point, Nika had nothing left in DC. Her uncle, Maxim Ivanov, was in the Red Skies Mafia, and was in comfortable leadership influence. After the utter annihilation of the DC mafia, her uncle offered to vouch for her to be a member in the Red Skies mafia. With no one else to turn to, Nika reluctantly agreed....

Attributes:
BadassNormal: Nika does not have any superpowers in any shape or form. She is just a regular human. Not only that....
What Measure is a Mook?: Nika is in no way physically or mentally remarkable. She does not have any sort of genius intellect that allows her to build advanced robotic suits, nor did she train with martial arts for 30 years in a secluded cave. She doesn't even have the superpower of infinite money. The only thing Nika has is an old AKM, straight out of Russia, and a baseball bat, straight out of Louisville. And maybe the occasional molotov, straight out of her own kitchen.
Imperial Stormtrooper Army Marksmanship Academy: Nika isn't even a master sharpshooter. She's at least competent enough at shooting things (Hence Army instead of Stormtrooper :p), but she isn't Anne Oakley.

Character Notes: Nika is a mook, not a hero. I am going to be RPing her in that fashion, both in and out of fights. Expect her to be on a power level way lower than everyone else, intentionally.

Character Goals: Not die :p

Besides that, generally try to make a living in this cruel world, without losing her own humanity with some of the brutal acts she has to do.

Name: John Smith
Alias: The Agent
Identity: Secret

Character Alignment: Neutral

Uniform/costume:
latest

Origin & Backstory: Not much is known about The Agent, some think he works for the government, others swear he is a mercenary. But in general whenever someone tries to dig deeper, they are unlikely to be heard from again. What is known is what he looks like, and the fact that he is an expert assassin, where he got his training is unknown.

Attributes:
Magna Blades: The Agent uses twin magnetic swords that can be folded down for easy storage, they can also be combined into one sword or a staff, The Agent
sheaths the Magna Blades up his sleeves to quickly equip them

IMI Desert Eagle: The Agent is also equipped with a Desert Eagle which he keeps inside his jacket. Used only in extreme situations when the Magna Blades don't cut it, or to just look cooler.

Expert acrobat: The Agent is very skilled in acrobatics and can do many things that an average human can only dream of, from mid air fips, to even near super human speed

Inhuman Hacker: The Agent was a very skilled hacker before the event, after it he gained the ability to directly interface with machines, allowing him to directly communicate with them if he and the machine are touching.

Character Notes: maybe later

Name: Victor Aprelev
Alias: Darklight
Identity: Secret

Character Alignment: Hero [Antihero archetype]

Uniform/costume: Wears a cybernetic mask that serves the purpose of hiding his identity and providing utility. He is often covered in a black cloak, with a hood over his head to hide this helmet and outfit under the cloak. Under the cloak is light armor that stresses mobility over protection, but still provides enough defenses for his purposes. See related images.

note: All of the above is a WIP. I will try to get a single, clear image in the future.

Origin & Backstory: Victor Aprelev, as an electrical engineer, is fairly well-known by his peers for his inventions involving the practical use of mass drivers. He holds several public and private contracts to produce these inventions, making him fairly wealthy. He is doubly famous, however, for having produced these inventions while considered almost completely blind. During a lab accident in 1997 during the Great Comet, while many criminals obtained superhuman powers, Aprelev lost most of his capacity to see, describing his vision as hopelessly cloudy in all directions. While ophthalmologists cannot find anything wrong with his eyes, physical tests confirm that Aprelev was indeed almost entirely blind.
Before he created his inventions, Aprelev believed this to be true. One day by chance, he discovered something about himself. He accidentally “moved” a cloud that had plagued his vision, being able to see the dog that had been trained to assist him in daily life. He trained this ability in secret and studied it. Eventually, he began working in the lab again despite being told not to by doctors and colleagues. His studies of this substance only he could interact with brought on his inventions. Reverse-engineering his technology was impossible as one would need to know and understand the existence of this mystery substance - which Aprelev decided was the mysterious dark matter in physics theory.
As his mastery over dark matter grew, so did his resentment for this increasingly corrupt world. Discovering a colleague had been robbed or murdered became a regular occurrence. However, he knew himself it was impractical for him to fight the corruption. He could handle his own in a fight - the increasing crime rate convinced him to study various forms of martial arts, but he only learned informally by viewing various video lessons online. However, while he could control dark matter, he could not erase it from his vision. In combat, the very thing that made him strong and successful could hide the bullet that kills him. With this in mind, he began developing a solution in secret. He was not familiar in the field of biology in general, much less the intricacies of the human eye - if that was even the organ that allowed him to perceive dark matter. He couldn't do it on his own. He needed help.
He had some people he could trust. His closest colleagues had been deeply affected by the spreading corruption and often, they voiced the same viewpoint as he did about the rapid decay of society. His best friend of all of them, Charles d'Ark, was the first person he went to. Of course it took some persuading a man of science to believe in Aprelev's abilities, but in a relatively small amount of time he had the lab on his side.
The first creation of his lab was the d'Ark Mask. This mask returned to him regular human eyesight at his command and provided utility he would find useful for his goals. Armed with the d’Ark mask, his powers to control dark matter, and a high-powered mass driver to use as a long-range weapon, he sets out in secret to wipe this planet of corruption - starting with his hometown, Red Skies.

Attributes:
  • Unidentified Matter Perception: There exists a naturally undetectable substance all around us. In its unaltered form, it is harmless and does not react to much; thus, that no organism has been recorded to perceive it is not surprising. However, Darklight developed the ability to perceive this omnipresent substance. Furthermore, he is somehow able to interact with it, bending it to his will. Observers report that he is able to project this matter into energy beams of varying power and use the matter as a shield in other cases. Other applications are likely.
  • d’Ark Mask: This mask serves a host of purposes. In addition to hiding his identity, the mask is able to turn on a filter that allows Darklight to ignore the substance he naturally perceives. Because he naturally perceives this substance with his vision, it can cloud his sight in thick enough concentrations. The mask adjusts his vision to see as a normal human would see. It also has other vision capabilities, such as x-ray and thermal. Additionally, it is vacuum-sealed, contains an air filter, and is compatible with air tanks; useful in low-oxygen environments. The name comes from an inscription on the mask’s left jaw.
  • Mass Accelerator Rifle: A high-powered electromagnetic catapult designed like a sniper rifle. Seems compatible with many types of rounds - but often, 7.62×51mm rounds are used. Darklight appears to be able to create his own ammunition when on low personal supply. This suggests that it takes a degree of concentration to force this mysterious matter to retain the forms he desires and this is the only effective way to utilize his powers long-range at present. Because of its sheer power, this rifle utilizes the 7.62×51mm rounds while still containing the stopping power and payloads that can reach and exceed that of standard anti-material rifles. It is suggested that his fabricated ammunition has even greater power, but it is unlikely that it would do considerable damage to any significantly armored target.
  • Martial Arts Hobbyist: His technique is rough, but observations imply that he has some background in basic martial arts.
  • Personal R&D Lab: Darklight has a background in Electrical Engineering and has accumulated a close circle of peers to work in a personal lab of his. This lab develops tools he might find useful in his pursuit to purify the world. So far, the lab has created the d'Ark Mask and the Mass Accelerator Rifle.

Character Notes:
Actions suggest he is not generally hostile. Does not respond well to overarching authority.
Control of mysterious matter appears to be weakened during the daytime. UV rays may scatter the useful particles more, or make them more unstable.

Character Goals: A world free of corruption. By any means necessary.

Name: Jordan Michaelson
Alias: The Swordsman
Identity: Secret

Character Alignment: Neutral. He is a thoroughly amoral mercenary.

Uniform and Costume: Pic coming later. Imagine a tall, (6'0) man in a dark cloak, with blue eyes and dark hair.

Origin and Backstory: The Swordsman didn't know he was superhuman until a few years after the accident due to the nature of his abilities. He was a fairly wealthy investment banker who was caught in a car crash on his way to work. To his astonishment, his body showed an amazing resistance to blunt force trauma, quickly recovering from his injuries. His body is much more durable than the normal humans', specifically to blunt force injuries (including bullets, clubs etc.) He stops bleeding faster and heals quicker.

Attributes:
Physically Fit: The Swordsman is very fit, being strong and fast (but not to a superhuman level)
Hand to hand combat: He holds black belts in aikido and jiu-jitsu. This, along with his level of fitness, makes him quite effective at hand to hand combat.
Swordsmanship: As his name suggests, Michaelson wields a sword quite effectively. This gives him a recognizable calling card (beheading of targets). His long cloak hides his falchion which he uses to cut and kill his target.
Knive-wielder: Michaelson can effectively throw knives up to fifteen meters, in case the target tries to run.

Character Notes: Michealson is incapable of feeling remorse or pity, as such he is an effective assassin/mercenary. He has no relationships other than buisness relationships.
He lives his life by this code: Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

Goal: Make money off of the rival crime bosses and corrupt politicians who want people dead, because as long as two people live on earth, someone's gonna want someone dead.
