Request for Feedback: 1000 post rule

Jolly Roger@ no your last post was #18 in the thread

Threads that routinely hit 1000, such as raves, rants and the music thread, should continue to be archived since they'd get ridiculously enormous ludicrously quickly. Other serial threads that turn over less frequently, such as the members photos, could be left as one mega thread IMO. Also, one mega members photos makes it easier to look thru the archives to find pictures of certain posters.

The issue is not postcounts not showing up, but postcounts not being incremented by 1 when clicking 'submit reply'.

So when are they being incremented by 1.
If you just make a post it is not incremented by 1.

My impression is that the 1000 rule started because of server space. Since then, CFC's culture has allowed unique and fun naming protocols for new iterations of threads. I think continuing to close the 1000-post thread is a good idea, because the etiquette of starting new versions of serial threads is decently well-established.

The main problem is that it's tough to quote old posts in the closed threads, and we have to work around that sometimes.

tl;dr, 1000-post rule is no longer necessary, but it's a piece of tradition.

What does PC have to do with it?

When the serial threads hit the 1000 mark, and correspondingly a new one is started, the old thread is recycled into a pc-less archive (meaning all pc accrued in those threads is taken away), ergo the starting a new thread every 1000 posts was as much a spam-PC control as it was a database control (moreso once the latter ceased becoming a problem), but now that there is no pc on this subforum, there really is no point in carrying out this tradition. Hell, there's not really much of a reason to post in this goddamned subforum, just like there's not much of a reason to post in IOT or the rest of ForumGames.

Will you get over the lack of PC in the forum already?

No we won't.

I'd say we keep the tradition for large serial threads and stop it for the smaller ones.

Keep it and give us back our PC.

You should see it from my side.

Really, I'm surprised that I'm surprised. Should have known better.

Look, few of the users have a better appreciation, respect, and sympathy for the constraints and the stress you work under than I do. I have been there, I have done that, I have got the t-shirt. And despite the fact that I am not really interested in being entirely reformed, I do go out of my way to not intentionally cause added aggravation for the staff.

That said, when someone is just being a dick then they are just being a dick. And should be called on it. And this post count thing is really pretty fraking dickish.

Now if you insist on sticking to it, then stick to it. Fine. Dandy, even. But don't pretend you're being the adults here. Because that just adds insult to injury. It accomplishes nothing other than a general reduction in the respect for the staff.
