Reviving a woolly mammoth

They're drowning, not starving.

Wrong. They are drowning because they have to swim further and further for food resources. Or at least thats the allegation.

Not sure if polar bears are equipped to commit gang warfare upon a mammoth. They're used to picking on much smaller fry.

Who said anything about the bears having to kill one? They can scavenge dead mammoths just like they scavgenge dead whales.

I don't know about that. The Giant Space Squid are losing the war.

Why revive Ötzi? He died of natural causes, and it's not like there aren't other humans left in the world; and clone-Ötzi can tell us nothing about OG Ötzi, since memories can't be cloned.
At least not yet... :shifty:

However, I thought they already made a half breed mammoth?
Like they took sperm from the Jakov(sp?) Mammoth, and used it to fertilize a female Asian Elephant's egg and it worked.
I saw it on Discovery a few years ago. However I can't find anything online about it.

I want the giant sloth

really? You think an arrow into the back and a stone-ax slap that shatters the skull are 'natural'?

weird ideas you be having, young man!

Why don't we clone something small and insignificint first like a dodo?

I don't think we have any good DNA of them, as most were cooked anyway. The Mammoth makes sense as we have frozen bodies of them that can still provide enough genetic material to do some good.

I want to see them successfully clone an extinct animal for many reasons, not only would it be a great stepping stone into bringing back natural ecosystems, but it would be an amazing leap in our sciences. Imagine being able to learn about extinct animals by simply cloning one. It would really improve our knowledge of evolution among other things.

what if we like go on a spree of gathering DNA from every like species then like make a bank of it then we like can make DNA legos :p and then when we like go to Mars can like clone ourselves a like whole ecosystem, wouldn't like that be the like awesomist thing ever? it would be like totally radical... (goes back to smoking weed)

(J/K I've never done drugs)

I was operating on the assumption that he did something to deserve it, in which case it is perfectly natural that he got himself killed.

Let's see... do it for the scientific effort of it? The scientific curiousity? Sure!

But I'd keep it at that, no need to try and recreate on a large scale something long gone.

Yeah. I don't want to imagine the impact hordes of mammoths will have on the regions they'd be released in.

Can you ride a mammoth for war? Could a man with an anti-tank gun ride a mammoth into battle against a tank and win?
