Armies are pooled and then divided into attackers and defenders. If someone attacks you and you have 30 armies on defense (50 being used for attacking) then the attacker would be attacking 30 armies.

I had more than 6, its just that I didn't send more than 6 to take Sinai, since I actually expected to be attacked.
