RevolutionDCM for BTS

@Maykay
Yeah well done you have diagnosed an issue in the initialization of options that has crept in to the latter versions of RevDCM somehow I do not know how. I've got the issue noted and will definitely try to fix it for the next version. I wonder how the RevDCM heavy weight mods like RoM and LoR are going with this bug? Perhaps they have sorted it already.
Cheers

Using RoM:AND:
I turned off Range Bombard because it is overpowered as it is right now so no idea :).

thanks for the answer, glider1, i'll check out the threads for those mods, see if they have anything.

@os79: i don't think it's just the ranged bombard, it's probably other options, too. like the attacker support (supposedly, where artillery pieces support your units without using up their movee).....i've never seen that happen.

Very nice yeah Afforess! It could be confusing for beginners if they have forgotten what units have been automated. For me personally, the standout is the ability to be able to put units on patrol between two or more clickable points on the map. That would be kinda nice.

I personally will not be rushing into Civ5 and will not even purchase it for some time until steam/the first patch/religion/PC specs are clearly resolved. So there will be continued support for RevDCM for some time after Civ5, even if it is only myself doing it and who ever else wants to be a Civ4 die hard without vengeance. :)

Cheers

And Revolutions plus DCM aren't confusing for the irst itme beginner? No, if you or Afforess write out a Concept Page in Sevopedia, and have a good documentation somewhere, I'm very sure that most beginners will grasp automated buttons A LOT faster than other RevDCM stuff.

Yeah, I may buy Civ5 myself but will still play with Civ4 more intensely until RoM catches up with Civ5 :D.

well....

im really an addict, im planing to get it first thing when its out, i even talked to my old visa mod partner to team up again for modding, so i guess ill do a game or 2 when it gets out and then - straight to modding :)

im glad youll give support here, people i guess will always play older versions, they all have their pros and cons, and civ4, after all that heavy modding have many pros, so im sure people will be interested in civ5 a long time after civ5 will be out...TAKE2 will probably hold most of the neat stuff until their usual 3d expansion...

anyway, im looking forward to see how the one tile unit thing goes.

glider1, any ETA on a new version?
I haven't seen much traffic in the svn lately... ( no complaint, just observation;) )

I'd hate to do a work that you are doing anyway, so I'm delaying merging the new BUG/BULL and BetterBTSAI (not to mention jdog needs to revise the revolution part, too)

Hi Avain
As you know, we have lost Phungus from the team for an unspecified time. This is sad but what can you do? Jdog5000 is in the middle of a big house move and I'd say that he only has sporadic time at the moment probably none, and then he will get a slab of time for Civ4 possibly early September at a guess. Lemmy101 is also extremely busy with real life games programming and so he is out. That leaves only me to work on RevDCM like the routine days two years ago before Jdog joined in and this mod was turned into an act of god beyond mere mortals :)

The main issue with RevDCM 2.8, is that Phungus has spent some time on an initial merge of Better BTS AI 1.00, but it is untested. It really needs Jdog to add Revolutions specific code, but at the moment I think a bigger issue is that we need to make sure that the Better BTS AI code that Phungus has merged, is absolutely correct and ready to go for the master Jdog when he finally get's some time. I would hate him to be chasing merge issues rather than adding new code.

So an appeal to anyone out there, I will try at some point, but could you also check that the latest RevDCM on the SVN is correctly merged with the very latest Better BTS AI and that it is working stably at this point? Then I can PM Jdog to let him know that the code is good and ready for him to jump in and do his magic when he can.

All the other issues are less significant than that. If Jdog were to do his thing on the Revolutions code and the Better BTS AI were confirmed working, I would even simply eliminate the worst of the bugs and release version 2.8 ASAP. Revolutions and Better BTS AI are always the most significant asset this mod has.

Cheers

My beta tests are using the latest SVN of 2.8, and there seem to be no stability issues. There do seem to be some issue with the Choose Religion options giving more than 1 religion, but no crashes.

I added some code to allow Religions to be founded for Rebels and single city civs even if they already have a holy city. Just search for "Choose Religion" as all the code is commented, and you could remove those added loopholes.

Also I was getting a crash with LoR if you switched players and the AI killed a civ you had switched to, that's the only critical bug I found in the latest RevDCM SVN (also not sure if this is reproduceable, might have just been a freak occurance, but definately worth checking).

There's been concept pages in RoM's sevopedia for RevDCM components for a loooong time (year, 2 years???)... at one point I converted most readme's into Sevopedia pages... It's quite trivial task to add more pages there. By the way I fixed the DCM Concept pages so that they are shown in Sevopedia and I've seen that RevDCM hasn't fixed those yet. You could grab the required python lines from RoM's sevopedia files. ;)

hey glider1,

ive merged the latest revision with my overlord2 mod, and everything seems to work fine.

im very happy you've made limited religion onto an option - good one.

also - what are the difference for you with the reversed options? "no_xxxx"option - i like it - but i gotta wonder why didnt you leave it as a jus "xxxx" option.

another one,
where did the plot list buttons went away? why wont they show like in other older versions of bug/revdcm?
you have any idea how to make them work?

also - i second zappara's suggestion - he did a swell job.

and thanks for fixing the dale ranged b not being on.

anyway - great work on the latest revision, im very happy with it.

Wow posts all in a row by the big five Phungus, Avain, Afforess, Zappara, Keldath. I am humbled:worship: Now if Jdog shows here I will completely fall apart :)

All your points have been noted and I will assign a large slab of time soon to tying it all together. Next version *must be released* by me at least six weeks before Civ5 so that people can play/merge one last game of RevDCM variants before they move on and leave myself to my 2007 vintage PC and the single empty echos that will become this forum.

Cheers

hehe..
you know they should do a day count for next revdcm version in addition to civ5 count on the upper right page :)

my pc is old too...gonna by a new one specially for civ5!

:)

*****
glider,
ive noticed that the auto ai stops when theres a revolution event (using latest revision).

***
ok -it seems that barbarian civ also makes it stop.

@Kel
Yeah the auto play stopping is an effect of Lemmy's new MP autoplay code in it's original form, so you have essentially confirmed that you are running the latest MP code in the mod.

Cheers

glider1, you humble me. Without your hard work RevDCM would not be here for us to build our modpacks on - so 1000 tumbs-up for glider1! :goodjob:

Onto business: I for one would be much more happy if you took a "phased" approach, i.e. not withholding RevDCM until 2.80, but release an intermediate version (even if without Better BTS 1.0). It would be swell to have all those problems ironed out - there are a few annoying ones, like the options not working correctly; events and project dependencies (here I can confirm Afforess' fix works like charm!), etc)
But if this is just me, feel to ignore ;)

I agree with Avain 100%. Incremental buildups to 2.80 is probably the wisest idea.

@Avain and Afforess
Absolutely agree that would be the wisest idea :goodjob:. That's how this mod used to evolve, step by step every couple of weeks and then pass it on. It's the best approach because it keeps the developers "in the zone". But real life has got me by the balls at the moment and I am a slave to it therefore. It is amazing how the wheel turns around here. These days you good people are giving much more to RevDCM than RevDCM is giving to you!

All I can say is that I will not be getting into Civ5 for some time after the initial release (nothing against odd numbered civ releases but for some reason I have only gotten into the even numbered releases!) and so my heart is committed still to this mod and although I will try to bring it up to scratch well before Civ5's release, in any case even after it is released I will finalize this mod to it's fullest extent possible. By that time hopefully the Civ5 hype will have died down (of which I just do not have any interest), and civ5 will have emerged into a good and true new version of civ that is a solid foundation for Jdog to begin evolving it in any way he sees fit.
Cheers
