RFC Civilizations in Abundance

After harassing him for ages with a catapult and a triply promoted gallic warrior (the stupid AI keeps sending out warriors from Paestum which they got from the Greeks, I presume), Caesar capitulates.
Oh, I built the Great Wall, so I'm just whoring wonders now and preparing for the Euros.:D Treves founds Christianity.

I underestimated Rhye's "ever renewing spawn"...almost didn't get to defend keep my empire. The Temple of Kukulkan helped, and flipping a catapult to the AI is actually a blessing, since they'll just start bombarding which buys me time.
For those who care to read how I kept my empire, here are the pictures:

And the Celtic empire at the end, all thanks to a tiny AI glitch by the Romans.:D

I wonder why you didn't make the Celts spawn with iron working, but with currency (which NONE of the classical civs have).
Halstatt C culture (800-650) already had iron swords mixed among the bronze ones.

I would give them iron working and maybe one more tech but take away currency. I realize that research will go to hell without currency, but they already have alphabet (so you can build research). Plus, I don't think you intended the Celts to keep the cities like I did. (I actually gave away my Anatolian city with Hagia Sophia to the Byzantines)

I would like to point out I tried to play as America, but none of turns loaded and there was a catapult in Antarctica. I had no problems as any of the other civilizations except the US.

If you want to play the Americans, you have to pick the Zulus and change as soon as they spawn (after about 2 turns). This is due to a bug that I couldn't yet find.

I'll probably switch currency with iron working, makes much more sense. True, I didn't intend to the Celts to keep their cities, but why not. I see if I can do anything about the exploit of the Roman starting situation though - Rhye seems to have removed if only partly, somehow, I've always been able to exploit the Portuguese when playing the Spanish, but not, for example, the Mongolians when playing the Chinese.

Usually the reason for autoplay stopping is the presence of a unit of that civ. Did you check if you accidentally spawn an American unit somewhere?

Other than the catapult, that's the usual part of the autoplay mechanism.

It's impossible to start with the Babylonians. The indy chariots kill almost all your bowmen (and sometimes the settler too) even before you have a chance to found a city to defend, IF they start with auto-war with you.

On the other hand, if you're not at war with them, then a dialog box comes up and asks you whether you want to allow Unug and Emar to flip, and I said no. I get extra troops (with a catapult)! And "some of our troops are joining the fight for independence!" turns out to mean that even more of the indy troops flip to me! Is that intended?

I finished off Egypt and built the Temple of Artemis, captured the Pyramids and Sphinx, and built the Oracle (used it for FEUDALISM--take that, puny Persians!).

Next up, the Spanish (I always thought the first to circumnavigate was too easy, and having the biggest empire always appealed to me for them...same thing I said for the English and the Russians and the Chinese and...)

EDIT: rather simply done, assuming that Marseilles and Bordeaux are razed. Getting conquistadors is a must, and militarily I was pretty strong. But that doesn't mean I didn't build all the wonders (except for the Sistine Chapel) and got the English, French, Portuguese, and Khmer to be spontaneous vassals.
You DID take away the research penalty. I had 20+ cities and the research rate is the same. I got to electricity, medicine, rifling and nationalism by 1751.

In future, the Babylonians won't be at war with the Independents owning the chariots, in order not to get their settler killed. I guess you've played the Sumerians and than switched, seeing as there was an Uruk and another city that could be transferred, and seeing as that never happened to me.
In case this happens again (seems to be the same problem that happens with the Byzantines, and so far I've been unable to find the source), just pick allow the cities to switch, then nothing will happen.

I'll look into the research penalty problem.

EDIT:

Found the research penalty, had been changed by B:W:S mod.

No, I did not switch from the Sumerians. I just picked the Babylonians from the 3000 BC menu.

In this case, this is a very unique incidence - I've never seen the Sumerians found another city.

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear.

I click on Babylonians, I wait for the autoplay, and in the 1 instance where my settler wasn't destroyed, I found Emar (2NW of Unug). I capture Unug when it becomes Uruk. The next turn, the indy chariots recapture Unug, but then it flips to me the same turn, and I get the question on whether I want them to flip, I say no, and then the free troops.

Try it, it's reproducible.

My Sumerian game relied on Mercenaries to get a victory. And then survive after that. At this point, with Babylon having been murdered by Chariots, Sumeria lives on.

After a tenuous peace with Persia, Cyrus declared war upon us, our survival owning mostly to mercenaries. Shushan was razed by us, with Parsa and Sirajis forming the twin City-States of Parsa. (If you squint, you can see the Temple of Artemis)

We need the Research Penalty. France is building the Manhattan Project and America hasn't spawned yet. (See OMG Pictures thread)

Research penalty will be back with the next update, which I'll probably have finished by next week.
