RFC Classical World

Rev 62 for Gokturks brings "You have been defeated screen" before even Autoplay starts :(

I really suggest giving the initial army of Turks at least 10 Exp each. I loose half of my Army on initial attack against Rouran and there is no way one can create largest Empire in so few turns. Give them at least more time. It takes 18 turns to build a single UB in Capital even! Why do they start so late anyway? 550-555 AD is a standard date for the rise of the Turks and decline of Rouran...

@DC123456789 : Ah, nice tip ! But it was not enough, they gave my only 50 gold.
@srpt : what are the changes for rev62 ?
- Same "You have been defeated" autoturn bug.
- We can't see the stability map with "ctrl" key.
- All starting civs miss all the technologies.

I have another idea : make possible to create a puppet state (vassal) of a defeated civ. For example, re-create Egypt as vassal for Seleucids, if they hold the egypt core provinces.

Where is the lake Baikal on the map I wonder? At least some of it belongs to our map I am sure.

Also both of those Armenian lakes are very salty. "Fresh water lake" designation does not seem right.

Reverse to rev.61 to play, again Bactria in Emperor.

And finally... :)

Also the distribution of Wheat, Sorghum, Rice & Tea in China is not correct. Below agriculture map may help:

Ignore Corn off course.

When I play as the Gokturks I always design new mountains,rivers and hills in Inner and outer Mongolia as well as the lake Baikal, and I put some iron, wheat, deer, timber, sheep and incense around. At the moment Mongolia is extremely poor

And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

This mod captures the time and the map where many Steppe Empires rose and fell. I am suggesting to create a definitive meta-civilizational distinction between Nomad and Sedentary societies, sons of Abel and sons of Cain ;).

For Nomads, Worker gets replaced with "dynamic improvement" unit -- Nomad Camp. It does not spend time building improvements on the tiles -- when placed on tile it instantly increases the yield for nearby city: kind of like in HoTK mod, but in more systematic way. Say, it creates the same bonus sedentary Worker would create there, Farm bonus when placed on PLaines, Mine bonus when placed on resources. Gokturks rose to prominence by supplying Iron to the previous masters of the Steppe, for example. But his work would stay forever until pillaged, while nomad guys can reshuffle their camps around their cities to focus on particular yield they need at that moment. When they capture better land -- their camps can migrate with them. Just think about it -- how cool would it feel!

Huns could have a UU Hun Camp which produces units in addition to improving the land.

No other RFC mod has the map and time frame so perfectly capturing the rise and fall of the Steppe. I really think we should pay some kind of homage to the Epic struggle between Abel and Cain.

Pontus 3rd UVH is working, I had victory next turn, but the green thingy (I don't know the right word sorry) doesn't appears.
And here is a map for Black See greek colonies, for city naming.

Bugs : at kushan spawn and full collapse of the bactrians, there is a message : "The bactrians greeks are invading Gandhara !".

@DC123456789 : thanks ;)

It's a checkmark. ;)

And the Black Sea area is already done, except for Olbia (I added it earlier, but I think srpt might have forgotten to add it).

I tried to find cities for Caucasus, but it's very hard... maybe it was not settle in the classical times ?

We also need city names for eastern India and Tocharians. Is it done ?

[edit] Won this morning with Antigonids, Emperor difficulty. Very nice to play, and more challenging than Seleucids. I had to try 3-4 games to find the good strategy.
I was surprised that the Statue of Zeus doesn't count as a wonder, but I did Great Lighthouse to win.
Unfortunatly, the AI doesn't accept the Capitulation (with Vassality tech.) even if they only left 1 city with 1 defender in it... I wanted to vassalize Seleucids and Egyptians.

And why are they named Egyptians, and not Lagides (or Lagids) ?

Oh, didn't remember that. ;) Thanks Sitalkas.

Well, I tried Pathans in Emperor. Very very challenging... and broken in my opinion !

Not the 1st UVH, which is fairly balanced. But the second one... hold 7% of the world in 50AD is impossible. The more there are cities on the map, the more you have to conquer... and have 20 culture for each one to grab some land.
I used the World Builder to see how many cities with 20 culture we need to achieve this UVH. And... it is impossible : Greece + all Anatolia + Armenia + Syria + Egypt + Caucasus + Mesopotamia and Persia + Arachosia + Bactria, Margiana, Sogdiana + all the west India... So even more than Alexander's empire. With all this, 6.80/7%. I think it has to be 5%. Without WB, I did 4%. I wasn't able to repel the Kushans barbs, so i've lost a lot if cities in the west.
I think that 5% is doable with : Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Judea, Egypt, Anatolia, West India and Arachosia, Margiana, Armenia. It is way enough and difficult.
Or... maybe the UVH is not in 50AD, but by 50AD. But I seriously doubt that 7% is doable even with this.

aye, UHVs like such should be reviewed for this new bigger map!

meanwhile, I tried to load a new Bactrian game, 320 BC map , revision 62 but I got a "you have been defeated" message when the game began :/

rev 63 up

fixed some python errors

added DC123456789's recent city names

gave Karabalasagun a deer and a fur and gave Otuken an iron

the Gokturk UP works for me every time. so far I have only settled the "proper" locations.

made the Anatolian lakes salt

edit: I will lower the Parthian goal to 5%

and the Pontic 3rd goal checked ok for me

Nice, srpt !

I don't know if I really understand well this events, but the "The bactrians greeks are invading Gandhara !" and the Antigonids respawn in Greece have no effects in my games. Only revolts in cities (Greece, didn't see for India), but no troops to conquer it.

If you lower the Parthian goal, do it too for Kushans. It is 10% iirc.

And in all my recent games, Gauls are too powerfull. I don't know for other players on this thread ? What did you see in your games about them ? Regardless of this "problem", Rome is fine to me.

rev 64:

found the problem with the Antigonid and Bactrian conquerors: they were not declaring war on the target city

lowered Parthian land goal to 5% and the Gokturk to 7%

edit: just realized I left my tester code in for the Bactrian and Antigonid conquerors. open RFCCWAIWars.py and find

"def checkTurn"

delete the next 3 lines

Code:
	def checkTurn(self, iGameTurn):

		if iGameTurn == getTurnForYear(-318):
			self.triggerAntigonidGreeceAttack()
			self.triggerBactrianIndiaAttack()

@Srpt : oops didn't do that before play again with Parthians. But in the game Greece was conquered by Antigonids, and Gandhara/Penjab/Sindh by Bactrians.

So, my game as Parthians.

1st goal : OK. Not so difficult, and a good sinergy with the next one.
2nd goal : 5% is a perfect challenge, as you can see on my screenshot : 5.03% in 50AD (emperor difficulty) ! Very close one.
The gold was a huge problem, fortunatly i've anticipated this with a strong economy (fairground/market in all city, mint in Babylonia, cottages...) and I've saved money during golden ages. But, once again, it was very close. A few more turns, and all my army disband.
3rd goal : it won't be a problem. If i'm short on gold, i'll give away useless and far away cities.
[edit : OK did it 15 turns later.]

Overall, I enjoyed a lot playing them. Srpt, your mod is really an addiction to me. :)

And I suggest again my idea to make doable to re-create a defeated civ as vassal if we control their core. What do you think about it ?
[edit : nevermind, with spy capitulation it's useless.]

Ptolemaic Wonder UHV is quite difficult: with the (necessary for AI, and pretty historical) nerf to the barbarians, there are less slaves to be had, and GP point build-up is susceptible to be disrupted by an invader (mostly surprise Roman stacks). I wish there was something I could reach out for to help the goal...
