RFC Classical World

for some reason I can't commit unit art changes. it says "this commit is not recursive and there are moved or renamed folders etc." I honestly have no idea what "recursive" means in this context. why can I not add folders and files? some units may be red blobs right now.

I committed some other stuff though. theres a new tech called Logistics, requires Military Drill and Bulk Trade, enables the Military Economy civic.

2 new UHVs for the Judeans, 1 will probably stay: open borders with all civs that have Jewish populations in 50AD, the other I'm not so sure: capture and hold 4 cities with Jewish populations before 100AD. I'd like to add Masada as a wonder so that and one more Jewish wonder would be a good goal. Antonia Fortress maybe? two forts is a bit lame.

Parthian and Kushan conquest goals switched: Parthia gets 7% of land by 50BC, Kushans get world's largest empire in 200AD.

also gave the Maccabees Horticulture at spawn for their Olives and gave their sheep grassland to graze so Jerusalem grows faster.

I've attached the units I wanted to add. merijn can you add them?

I never finished this game cause there were bugs (note Judea isn't Jewish) but this has got to be a record for Rome making it to the Levant.

A couple of text errors for the Celts- from the civ selection scene, it says that the Celts start in 320 BC, while the Dawn of Man text appears to be for Nubia.

Edit: You should also clarify which territorial goals are "control" (have all cities) and "have one city in". For example, for the Celts the UHV is "Control the Celtic World in 100BC (which implies controlling those provinces), but each province logs after one city is obtained in the province.

Edit: Certain units, such as the Mauryan Archers and Legionaries appear as three red blobs. Pictures are attached.

fixed a bunch of text, sorry about the red blobs, should be fixed soon.

also, there was a feature causing a CTD. I turned it off for now so an update will fix it.

In one of my last revisions, I deleted the art folder, because I moved the art that was in it in the FPK. I had some problems too, but it works now.

No problem.

When you delete a folder, it's better to use the SVN "delete" option instead of just deleting it.

had a really fun Bactrian game last night. got lucky with Taxila: the Mauryans had taken it and were defending with 1 archer and no walls. barb pressure was kind of perfect: tough but beatable, gradually getting tougher up to the Kushans. took Herat, built lots of UUs and UBs. Parthia's spawn saved me from probably going down to the Seleucids.

the 10,000 gold may be too much. I kept science on zero the entire time and used all the money for mercs early on. I had only 500 in 100BC. I got to over 6,000 by 20AD, just a few turns from the Kushan spawn, but was about to start losing cities to Kushan barbs and the very powerful Satavahanas, who had just invaded. I was unable to send my merchants anywhere but Kashgar as the Satavahanas, Parthians and Han all refused open borders, so they produced only 800 gold.

I think I should have gone after the Satavahanas early and captured or more likely razed Ujjain so that Mathura could grab those elephants. that would have made a difference. or I could have taken a city and traded it for elephants.

something is up with the city name manager, Takshashila didn't become Taxila. and I know the Indian spearman units head comes loose from his body when he fights and fortifies. I guess I have to learn how to fix that.

The 10.000 gold is possible (in Monarch) : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=11423090&postcount=544

I don't remember well my game but I failed 2 or 3 games before do it right.

Note on goal 1: it is harder now because the Hebrews spawn just before the deadline. It takes quite some military to hold the city, so perhaps moving the date a little is appropriate, or make it a 'by' goal.

Also, Bactrians can totally do without mercenaries. Military economy is essential, though.

I salute this modmod :goodjob: I can finally play as myself :king:

First remark (many more to come :mischief:) -- Vank is meaning monastery in Armenian. And specifically Christian monastery. We got those starting IV-V Centuries, but most of the time this mod would feature pagan Armenia. Perhaps generic "Tachar" (Temple) could be a better name. The temple of Garni is the only pagan monument left in Armenia since most of the early churches were built on top of the pagan temples.

Also, as a side remark, all my units can pillage empty plots :dunno:

I will rename the Vank to Tachar. Do you maybe have a better UB?

Which version do you play? If it's the latest SVN version, it's possible that the "empty plots" have a cottage (or one of its evolutions) on it, but the art isn't shown. (same problem as the bulgarian cottage art bug in RFCE)
It's also possible that your on a farm with no art.

If it is the last, can you please say of which civ you can pillage the empty tiles?

They call Armenia a museum under the open sky -- countless invaders destroyed our Tachars and Vanks, but many old ones still survive. Since they built churches on top of the pagan temples one can expect numerous pagan temples in pre-Christian Armenia. The only surviving (reconstructed) Temple of Garni was built along Hellenistic classical lines, but embodies much of the sacred numerology and geometry devised by Ancestral Armenians many years earlier. Armenian pagans wanted to appease the gods and protect humanity from their wrath. I think the current UB is fine. Perhaps we just should change the icon and/or art.

I was playing as Armenia, obviously. I don't think it is an invisible improvement, since I can pillage the same plot again and again (no money, though, just an art-effect)...

@Tigranes: thanks for the feedback. I knew the Vank was a compromise but couldn't find anything else decent. we will change the name to Tachar. can you suggest a better leaderhead to represent Tigranes? I've attached pictures of all the ones in the database that seem reasonably appropriate.

as for the pillage thing, it might have happened when I made roads unpillageable. I will look into it.

Please look at my avatar to see how Tigranes looked like  Away with all those bearded dudes :rotfl: Where did you get the idea, I wonder? Our only emperor was after all the Hellenistic customs and at that time our country was under the big Greek influence.

Dumanios did a fairly good work on Tigranes, but I dislike the mustaches :undecide:. Perhaps he could shave him for you guys!

As for the pillage bug you can see yourself what I mean:

I guess I remembered seeing pictures of ancient Armenian kings where they looked Persian. I looked through the database and its amazing how few ancient era leaderheads there are with no facial hair. removing it must be one of the easier things to do with leaderheads though, so maybe I will try.

what about the units? are they ok?

testing whether my no-pillaging-roads thing is causing the pillage bug is a DLL thing and the bug is no big deal so I will look into it when I have time, probably this weekend.

While we're talking about that, are you going to replace Mithridates, too? Hammurabi doesn't look very Persian.
