RFC Classical World

Yep I know this RFC feature ;)

But I am against its extreme use. You don't want half of your empire plus your capital to flip to the enemy..

That's why I suggest one of these 2 sollutions, to be able to enjoy the game as you do with other civs

@ Sitalkas: welcome! really glad you are enjoying the mod

Kushans/Bactrians
the Bactrians are "supposed" to be destroyed by the Kushans. if you're Bactria and you're going for the UHV should be finished or almost finished by the time the Kushans spawn. if you're going for Bactrian domination then I would suggest moving your capital to Multan or Pattala and wait for the Kushans to wear themselves out fighting the Parthians, Satavahanas and/or Sungas. I didn't think they were supposed to flip your capital though, so I'll look into that.

Maccabees
I don't want them to be overpowered but I think your experience with them is unusual. in at least half of my games they are destroyed shortly after spawn, otherwise they take 1 or 2 other cities and are destroyed a bit later.

Ghana
the later civs haven't been worked on much. hilarious that you flipped Artashat.

Republic
after thinking about it for a while I decided that the Roman republic (the only explicit one in the period I think) was functionally enough of an oligarchy that it would be better to represent it as such rather that to include a whole civic just for one civ which would inevitably switch to empire anyway. I didn't want to have the Pandyan republic or the Tocharian republic incongruously running around. I will however add a dynamic name calling Rome a republic when running Oligarchy.

Wonders
yes more will be added. I have a list. some, like the Dhamek Stupa, are unfinished/have leftover things. right now all I know about that wonder is that its required for one of the Gupta UHVs.

Goths
they are non-playable respawns and there are already 38 playable civs but I'm interested in your ideas for them. respawns or course can always be played by starting as another civ and switching.

Indeed a civic for just one civ would be bad, so perhaps you should let them as they are, they look great actually !

I will follow your advice for the Bactrian strategy and I ll move my capital from Taxila :)

some wonders that may be included :

-The Great Gothon (? bonus)

let me know what you think :D

What's changed?

I think that was the first regular download with the Three Kingdoms respawns in it, but only if you play the 220AD scenario. there are also lots of fixes from the last version.

the Three Kingdoms respawns are also in the 320BC start in the svn as well. also fixed the 3rd Judean goal. its now spread Judaism to 1/2 the world's living civs and 1/3 of its cities.

Really? The UHV text has not changed for me.

the Judean victory fix is in the svn only. here is a patch for the regular download (instructions included):

Attachments

2nd Jin goal is actually coded to require six DIFFERENT luxury resources. This is impossible without trade, but your immerdiate neighbors all are not developed enough to provide luxuries in the 220AD start. Vietnam and Funan only have 1 city each and Satavahana starts without techs.

svn changes:

the Satavahanas now have some techs in the 220AD start.

many new tribe-specific european barb spawns

fixed a typo the caused too many Huns spawning

@2phunkey4u: what about the Kushans, were you able to trade with them?

and a couple of things I want to change/fix soon:

alter piety system so that it properly takes into account civs with no state religion. rulers without state religion should be able to gain piety by honoring any gods, but state religion would still give a big boost while at the same time limiting you to the 1 religon. running dynastic cult will be bad for piety. I think it would be cool to have a civ like the Kushans to go for sainthood without state religion as a UHV.

Rome will collapse in stages. first time they "collapse" they will not collapse (maybe lose a couple of cities) and spawn Byzantium. 2nd time they will collapse to core. 3rd time they will collapse to just Rome with a new leader, usurping general, and be given an army. after that up until the Ostrogoth respawn if Italy is empty of major civs there will be a respawn of the Kingdom of Italy with a barbarian leader like Stilicho the Vandal.

They had no luxuries to spare. Vassalizing them was out of the question. Same goes for Parthia, Japan and Goguryo. Romans were unwilling to trade.

Tried Judah again. The counter for the 2nd goal was bugged. I got the goal but the counter did not check until then. The third goal was unwinnable for me bc Rome would never OB. Is there no war-at-spawn with Dacia for them any more? Winning the 2nd goal is also rather luck-based, depending whether Parthia wants your land or not. Why is Egypt ok for Judah?
All three goals Judaism-related is too much to my taste.
Alternatives could be: Discover Theology/Found Christianity by 30AD, Do not lose a city (to Romans) until xyz, Control Judaea and Syria in xyz, become a Jewish saint by xyz, make Christianity the #1 religion by xyz/spread Christianity to Egypt, Syria, Greece and Italy by xyz,...

Discipline promotion is gone again?

2nd Carthage UHV did not check for me. Did you change it? I let the Romans collapse first before I took Rome.

I checked the first 2 Judean goals: the Temple of Solomon and the open borders and they both worked. didn't have time to check the third but I will.

there is supposed to be a war on spawn between Dacia and Rome. I will load a Dacian start and look into it.

European barbs were way too heavy in the last commit. they are a bit better now gut maybe still too tough.

the Carthage goal requires that you take Rome from Rome. when did they collapse?

I'm confused by the vs barbs promotion. it doesn't show up in the combat tooltip and I did some tests and couldn't see that it was helping. I will ask embryodead about it since it comes from SoI.

happy to announce that the popup asking whether you want to keep or raze a city on capture now tells you that you can enslave the city if you are running slavery.

What was not my point. My point is that you need to OB with Rome for the 2nd and 3rd goal, which seems impossible for me without DOWing Dacia and hoping they do not get Judaism. Plus, on higher difficulties, Rome and Parthia will like to go to war with you, which makes spreading Judaism extremely hard.

the Carthage goal requires that you take Rome from Rome. when did they collapse?

They collapsed after I razed Tarraco (started here when they tried to expand into Iberia - couldn't let that happen), captured Massilia and defeated their African army.

re the third Judean goal, when you say higher difficulties you mean emperor? I don't want to consider emperor yet because I haven't balanced it at all and I personally never play it anyway. the chance for religions to spread is set for different civs in the DLL. for some reason I had a relatively high value for Judaism spreading to the Dacians but I've now lowered it to the minimum. Parthia often ends up at war with the Satavahanas or Sungas so maybe you can get OB with them that way.

I think it would be appropriate if the Judean victory was very hard. btw when I get around to it (maybe today) they will respawn in 70AD to represent their other rebellion.

re the Roman collapse. did they collapse to core first? you would have got a message saying: "the Romans have abandoned their outer territories and recalled their garrisons" or something like that.

feedback from the latest version

started again as the Bactrians

- cities flipped to the Kushans
Merv
Taxila

*Taxila was my capital, Bactra (ex capital)didnt ask to flip

-Rome and the Celts collapsed really early, maybe before my spawn; didnt WB when I spawned.

*it seems that a barbarian invasion was the reason.
*Now I am at turn 225 AD (sassanids spawn) and ALL Europe is barbarian. From Spain to Byzantion there is no European Civ, only barbarians
*Perhaps Rome should spawn with an archer and walls already built in the city

- Super Maccabees again

*They control The crimean peninsula (Chersonisos), Asia Minor, The Levant, Egypt and Mecca

- I noticed that all civs that call their garrisons to the capital collapse after a turn.
Is this supposed to work like this? shouldnt you give them a bit more time to reconquer or to work their stability a little bit ?

- Every plot in the Sahara desert has at least a horse archer or a mounted unit generally, I think that's a little hard for the African civs

**** edit ****

city raider 3 has a +10% bonus vs gunpowder units , unrealistic :p

ok more barbarian nerfs coming. that is probably the reason for the collapsing and the mega-Maccabees

as for the Sahara barbs, from the start of the mod its been like that, many of them stay in the desert and do not attack. the other barbs never do this. I don't know what's causing it.

Maybe if you replace the roaming barbarians with some independent cities in Germany this will be solved.

And the Germans will become aggressive after a specific date to represent the barbarian invasion... An event perhaps !

European barbs nerfed again. ran some Dacian starts and Rome is doing ok. I will play Rome soon and see if I can help them some more.

and thanks to esemjay, embryodead and The_J the slave unit now has an animation when it is sold or used to rush a building. it has to be the same animation if I want to use the great people mechanics for those functions and I want to because at least I know that the AI knows about them and has AI for them.
