[RFC-DoC] Lang Leve Amerika

Why didn't you settle Denver(?) on the oil!

He will most likely settle there, because with his current cities he'll miss the cow!, horse!, marble, gold and coal. My preferences are NO, Chicago, Denver and Regina.

I most likely will later, but remember, I am trying to play this as if I was a mortal running the country. Some mistakes will be made. ;)

Anyway, update coming soon!

Civil Construction Program
1829

“Amerika and the VSVA have lain undeveloped for too long. My predecessor did not know how to build, he only knew how to expand. While expansion is good in its own right, without the infrastructure to support an expanding nation no one can prosper.”
-Cornelis van Tjeerd; Speech to Gratis Raad

Near the end of the year 1808 the new Voorzitter, Cornelis van Tjeerd, announced to the Gratis Raad that he would break away from the traditions of the Brenger van Vrijheid in one important way. The VSVA would no longer support a policy of rapid and unending expansion. Instead, it would focus on expanding the list of nations that the VSVA had contact with, while also improving the lands that the VSVA held at that time. His first order after making the announcement was for the VSAS Nieuw Amsterdam to sail to Europe and reopen contact with the nations there.

This action would have many unintended consequenses, many of them good. The Nieuw Amsterdam made contact with the Islamic Viking Union with whom open borders was signed, the Kingdom of Great Britain whose world map was purchased for 500 gold dollars, and Brittany in 1811, the Khanate of Kampuchea and the Mongol Empire in 1820, and the Protectorate of India and the Russian Empire in 1823. Not only did the Nieuw Amsterdam lift the VSVA out of a “dark age” of isolation, but it also greatly expanded the VSVA’s maps of the planet.

In 1808 the VSAS Glorie was sent to scout the sea around the small Independent Kingdom of Eleuthera. What they would discover shocked the Voorzitter when it was reported to him. The island had no troops whatsoever! It appeared that Eleuthera would be easy pickings for just one contigent of Riflemen. So, the Voorzitter ordered the Glorie to keep tabs on the situation, and ordered a rileman unit from the fronteir back to ’s-Gravenhage. It would take a few years, but eventually the unit would arrive and be sent to take this pitiful island nation.

On the dawn of 1811, another great event shook the nation. An aspiring scientist named Willem Haarj invented the Scientific Method. When the discovery was reported to Tjeerd, he ordered Haarj to the Overheid Herenhuis. When Haarj entered the receiving room of the mansion, he was amazed to find that he had been appointed to be the Voorzitter’s advisor on scientific matters. Tjeerd then proceeded to tell Haarj that he was to find a way to make a stronger alloy that would be able to survive the ravages of the sea.

1811 also began the full implantation of Tjeerd’s Civil Construction Plan. The first step in this plan was that worker units were to be raised in every city that could supply the people. The next step would be to improve lands that contained valuable resources, and then improve the remaining lands. The training of the first “CCP” unit began in ‘s-Gravenhage, with Tjeerd himself there to oversee day 1.

In the middle of 1811, the second major event caused by an immigrant to the VSVA would take place. At this time, a scientist from England named Richard Feynman came to the Overheid Herenhuis and asked to see the Voorzitter. When he was showed in, he told Tjeerd that he wanted to construct an academy in the great capital city of the VSVA, and that he wanted to name it after Tjeerd. Tjeerd happily agreed, and that is how the Cornelis van Tjeerd Academie van Wetenschappen was born.

The years between 1811 and 1823 were mostly uneventful, with only the continuation of the CCP as an event worth reporting. 1823, however, began the second period of conquest with the capture of the Independent Kingdom of Eleuthera. Tjeerd’s scouts, however, had reported to him that the Independent Kingdom of Santo Domingo was also undefended. Cornelis decided that Santo Domingo, which was free of the plauge, was more valuable. So, he ordered the destruction of the city of Eleuthera and the conquest of Santo Domingo. When the anarchy in Santo Domingo settled, Tjeerd would order his troops to restore order in former Eleuthera.

1826 was another important year, with three major events. The first was when emissaries from the Russian Empire entered port at ’s-Gravenhage. When they met with Tjeerd they asked him for support in their was agains the Khmer. Tjeerd responded that he didn’t know enough about the situation, and that he would have to decline. The scond major event would be the beginning of the construction of the VSVA’s first ship of the line. This marked the beggining of the end for the CCP focus of city construction and training crews. For the forseeable future the VSVA would be building up for war, and while the subject of the VSVA’s attentions was not known at the time most people suspected Mexico to be the target. The third major event would be Tjeerd’s order for all troops that had been exploring to return to the nearest VSVA controlled city.

In 1829 representatives of the sultan from the Ottoman Sultanate arrived at ’s-Gravenhage. They asked Tjeerd for all the information he had regarding nationalism and its effects. In the interest of better relations, Tjeerd agreed.

1829 also brought the conquest of Santo Domingo. Witnesses reported that Tjeerd’s troops met no resistance at all, and that many welcomed the troops as an organizing force. It appears that the King had fled the country before Tjeerd’s troops could invade.

On June 4, 1829 a previously dormant volcano in the mountains near ’s-Gravenhage. When it errupted it destroyed a coal mine, and the hamlet of Hinjine that had stood near the base of the volcano. Other than that, though, there were no major effects. Tjeerd redirected as many funds as possible to help the survivors rebuild, but the hamlet and mine would have to wait a few years to be rebuilt.

Hmm interesting idea - and an impressive Netherlands daamn. What are your goals? American UHV or maybe revenge on the motherland? Good writing by the way, you make every event interesting with the backstories (especially on the tech stuff).

I love to read about my homeland :) Keep it coming. Interesting mod also and great story. If you need some pointers on some names, you can post me, but I have to say you are pretty accurate with the terms. :)

Thanks on all counts. And let me tell you, that Netherlands was born into the perfect situation. Otherwise it wouldn't have become that powerful...

As to my goals... I am trying to play this as if I am the in-game leader, and make decisions based on their personalities. The basic idea though is to get to a point where Amerika is a major world power. And we have nukes. ;)

Yea I do nice story, btw
Thanks!

Thanks, and I will keep that in mind.

I will continue this weekend, probably. I should have time after writing the SaD update.

I just realised this had been updated! That's what I get for having so many subs, I guess...

Anyway, please continue :D This is an awesome story :goodjob:

Of course it is awesome.
And you've got a nice context too : that Earth looks quite unusual, with the Netherlands, Mongolia and Arabia on steroids :p
