RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

Almost every game I played I had Arabia respawn. they manage to live for a while too usually, but they often vassalize to the so Euro civ and never brake free (Saw them once ten times bigger and stronger the Venice and still cling on as vassals).*

*This was all in Beta 1

Played as the Dutch in Beta 2.
I like to play my first game with them for a number of reasons...
1) I like their UHV conditions
2) You can see how much of Europe has developed by that time
3) Unlike Austin Power's father, I like the Dutch

Before I start, I just want to point out to the Turk, the damn Arabs respawned in 1281, so you can take that part out of your repetition repetoire. They do respawn.

I started with the standard placement of Amsterdam, and had space to found Antwerp with my second settler. By the 3rd turn an independent Groningen had flipped to me.
Well done modders!
Germany was prospering, and the home of Protestantism. Austria had crushed Hungary and took her lands (finally). France was gone. Burgundy was confined to Marseille. Spain and Portugal had taken over the Iberian. The Norse and Swedes were doing fine, as were the Russians. No Poles or Kiev. Bulgaria was pretty large, Byzantium was tiny, but independent... Ottomans had a large empire in Anatolia and the Levant... then they collapsed! Venice was doing fine. Genoa had settled some islands.

I managed to take Calais (ind), Bremen (Norse), and Luxembourg (ind) before too long. I hit the Open Borders condition with ease... also the GM condition. However, I failed the colonies... despite all the "unbalanced" bonuses of being Protestant.

Good game! No obvious bugs. Can't wait to try out some other civs now.
It doesn't take that much to abuse it, only 10 cities, and it isn't that hard to remain stable (I'm Genoa and have 42 cities, solid stability while having -66 stability from prosecution)
though it is probably one of the hardest as Netherlands because they have so few cities
Which makes me think that the faith points should be calculated by another formula, for example:

Faith points / number of cities = bonus. However, This means that a lower number of cities is desired for a large bonus. To solve this: f / (n * 0,5) = b. Even more appealing to me would be an exponential decreasing bonus, but I'm not that much of a mathematician to construct a formula with this. However, n near limit should be really large in this case and the limit should be chosen very carefully.

Motion Seconded

Is anyone having problems playing as Cordoba in Beta 2? It's been a while since I played this mod so I can't exactly compare my current Cordoba games with past plays but from what I remembered Cordoba didn't had as much stability problems as it does now. Islam's faith bonuses are wonderful but I wonder if my foreign stability would be higher if I switched to Catholicism. My economy stability is also in the negative since none of the Catholics ,or Orthodox for that matter, would trade with me/open borders with me. I'm still not too familiar with RFCE civics as I am with RFC but I was running feudal monarchy, religious law, serfdom, manorialism, and subjugation.

go with Orthodoxy it provides stability

Ok here's my feedback to the new french UHVs. First a quick story what happend.

Found Paris on spot and Tours east of the southern wheat. The Missionary spread Catholicsm in Tours because Paris had the culture anyway. Researched Calendar, Theology and Manorialism, then directly to Farriers for Lancers and Stables. After that i researched for Feudalism to have Armored Lancers. Once Paris hit a nice size and i got some mines and production i started to pump out Lancers nonstop. The first two went to Milano and captured it easily. One lancer went to Firenze, which had no Defense (I guess the plague hit them). So i had my two cities in northern italy. The next two Lancers went to Marseille and Barcelona. In the meantime Milano and Tours started to produce my first two settlers. Paris was still producing lancers. Next two Lancers went to Bordeaux and the other barbarian city. Still was researching with 100% because all the capturing gave me much gold and the pope is frequently giving gold because there are no other catholic civs he may give gold to. So next Settlers head for Frankfurt and Lyon. So the only city left was Pamplona, which was defended by two crossbowmen and not doable with lancers, but once i hit feudalism i upgraded three of my lancers in Barcelona and captured Pamplona easily.

This UHV is a bit more fun then the last one, but it isn't very challenging either. I had no problem to capture the two barbarian cities and settle a third city in northern italy. So here are my suggestions to improve playing Frankia. :)
- add some spearmen to the independent cities or add fortifications to the cities
- make the UHV require capturing the barbarian cities as well, perhaps third city in italy
- add more pressure through barbarians in northern italy and western germany, there are some but they can hardly fight Lancers or Armored Lancers, so increase the numbers or the unit type
- adding more norse invasions especially north of Paris would be cool, i only saw one once near Bordeaux
- add some fish or anything to the bretagne, its allways the last spot to place cities in

Speaking of the plague...
Still WAY OVERPOWERED.

I had 5 cities of pops between 4-8, and two units each.
By the end of the plague, all 5 of my cities were 1 population, and ALL of my units, including workers and military outside of cities, had died.

Is this plague problem ever going to be addressed???

Kochman: I have never suffered that much from the plague. Can you describe the game you are refering to?

....... This mod seems to be dying, where are the people who are supposed to be modding? SoI its lightyears ahead of this mod, ONLY because Embyrodead has been continually working on it, who the hell is working on this mod anymore? There are still a lot of bugs that have NOT been addressed, and on top of that a lot of good ideas have come, and have not been addressed. So can we please have some real leadership for this mod, like SoI has!

And yes, the plague is too overpowered and seems quite random.

The main modders and leaders were 3Miro and sedna17. 3Miro has not anytime left, sedna apparently not much enough... actually the time amount someone gives to civ modding is analogic of how much time he has in his real time issues, so please stop whining.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but there are things more important than civ in RL, Civ comes second after them. Yes there are problems, but we are doing the best we can under these conditions. Don't like it? Go play SoI, which you so much favor (and this is no offense to embryodead, hats off to him). Or contribute, do you know any coding?

Do not take it as an offense, but being overenthusiastic does not always help.

EDIT: For me, at least, this works as a motivation. I am not sure everyone will take it as such, and not as bashing.

I think I gotta go with Micbic here...
My complaint was only that things that were addressed in depth are still not fixed, and understand the need for a centralized "mod" point that Turk address...
But this stuff takes a ton of time, and as micbic said... real life trumps...

Plus, to be completely honest Turk... you came off like you were just trying to plug your mod more than anything else.

Do you guys use a makefile for compiling the DLL? I'm no coder but I wanted to customize the game a bit, so if you do could you post it?

What game I am referring to?

I think that's pretty obvious.

Do you really think I wondered what mod you played?!?

I was more curios if you were out of health resources, played on highest difficulty etc. But on second thought, lets just leave the question...

Oh, next time ask what you mean and you might get the answer. I am not going to start randomly answering... not like I magically read from your mind when you were typing your very vague question without actually asking me what you really wanted to know.

It just meant "what game" as in "what savegame". It wasn't that hard to get, really

Sorry, I didn't get that... I got...
"Can you describe the game you are refering to?"

Anyhow, it's pointless.
If you want a precise answer, ask a precise question... not a hard concept.

What? Interested.
