It's good but there is too much of France and the Baltics should be included for the Northern Crusades. I also think more of eastern Europe needs to be included so the Austrians can expand.

I agree. I'll probably leave England in as a minor unplayable country for diplomatic purposes, but Austria and Baltics are more important. France can have power without all of it included.

I think the Prussians should spawn in the 1220s like in RFCE++ for the Northern Crusades.

Ok, changed

We'll probably need respawns for some civs based off the fact most of them spawn before 1300 AD.

I think if the rectangle is shifted towards the right, the western border would be at Paris and the eastern border at what's now Budapest. Paris would I think for any German civ be a nice 'what if' UHV-condition so I'd definitely leave that in. The northern border can be moved, of course. What's the map size you had in mind? Given the land to water ratio 50 x 100 seems fine. 60 x 120 Could perhaps also work but I wouldn't go any bigger. A lot of action is going to be at the end so it would be a shame if the endgame becomes unplayable.

Paris definitely should be in. I think moving the map to the right would cut too much of France out. But that is a great idea for a UHV to capture Paris
What do you mean about the endgame, yes the action will be there, but what does that have to do with the map?

That may work but the map might show too much of Norway.

Working on Unique powers and UHVs in second post.

Norway could be a place for Denmark and Sweden to expand to, but it probably isn't required

Well, a bigger map means more lag. Take RFCE for example, it lags pretty much in the later eras. The endgame - roughly starting in the 17th century - gives the rise of a centralized France and the Habsburg empire. It would be a pity if that part of the game gets destroyed by frequent crashes.

50x100 is rectangular, I think he was talking about his tilted map. I'm not sure how big the map should be. The RFCE map was 100x73. How far south should the map go?

Well, to be quite honest, I can't see how you would make a square map if you want to include both the Baltics and the Lombards without having a large chunk of the map being kind of unnecessary. You could always go with a non-tilted map which will end up more like a square but that would mean some southeastern European territory is going to be included.

Lombardy is just going to be a small section for competitive purposes in the Alps.

I still think Constantinople's map on post #11 makes the most sense. I just don't want too much of Italy involved. Most of South Eastern Europe won't be there as Austria and Hungary will be there to cover that.

Maybe it's just me but I've always thought tilted maps were visually unappealing. A square map would include too much of SE Europe but a tilted map would have a lot of France and/or Norway.

I agree about tilted maps.

But now that I think of it, it'd be better to have more of France and Norway than SE Europe.

Norway could easily be filled with barbarians and France needs to be powerful like they were during that time.

SE Europe would require the addition of more civs or a lot of independent cities

That's true but the same would be said for France. With all of that land, there would have to be new civilizations put in western France. And Austrian expansion is a necessity.

Perhaps the Danish UHVs could include controlling northern Germany (i.e. Pommerania and Holstein) in 1300 or so (after they lost it in our timeline)? Seems better than capturing an English city to me, seeing as England will be a "minor" civ.

Also, one of the civilizations should have a UHV of founding Protestantism.

True again, but we could always slip West Francia and East Francia back in.

Austria does need room to expand... so how about we keep the straight map so a decent amount of France remains and Austria has room to grow, and then add Barbarians and Independents in SE Europe to make it harder for Austria to expand.

And about Denmark. I was saying the English thing for Vikings, but your idea is probably better. Maybe I'll change the raze cities one.

True also about Protestantism. Maybe Saxony or Hessen?

EDIT: Please do comment on these UHVs as I'm trying for historical realism and game stuff, but they need tweaks

Another important concept is wonders. Here are some ideas, I don't know how to make buildings, so you may need to find someone good with art making skills.
