RFC realistic system requirements

RFC is really love at the first sight, but it get so sluggish that it's not really playable for me. Is my P4 2.8/1Meg Ram /9800 Pro 128 combo too small for the task ? I put most graphic options on low with little results.
Since everybody seems to be happy with RFC with no particular complain for the strain on the system, what are you guys equipped with ? Is there any magical tweak to help or should I really wait for Santa Claus to boost my PC ?

You should increase the ram of your system. That should speed up your pc.
my pc is a 2400 athlon xp 2gig ram, with a more crapier card then you have and it plays fine till late game.
The biggest hurldle for civ4 is ram. Espescially for huge maps. you only have 1meg. about half of that is eaten by windows leaving only 512 for civ.
