Unfortunately, what AdrienIer said is true. I did take Rome. However, please understand that Carthage is NOT a war-hungry nation . It was all a result of his own surprise attack in which he took Carthage. I tried to negotiate for a peaceful settlement, but I was ignored.
 
Wow, this Rome-Carthage war sounds cooler than our war in RFC. Our Carthage also took Rome, but it took me much longer and I was assisted by Babylon. Could you guys tell more details about the whole affair?
 
I didn't expect him to have 2 galleys in the fog, having vision on his trireme. So I lost a galley with 2 preats inside. Then he got 2 lucky rolls upon retaking the city and landing in italy. So he then had 2 numids and 2 archers against 1 archer in Rome.
 
Well, Persia can't do a thing about it, thats for sure.

And I told you, Carthage is more powerful than Rome in RFC if played by humans! No one believes me!
 
Me and Knoedel played Carthage vs Rome real time multiplayer and I should tell it was very balanced. Rome got extra UU which is 1.5 time stronger than any other unit on the map at that time. Carthage has extra Trireme. Obviously if Roman player loads 2 Prets into the Galley without Trireme cover -- things could get hopeless early on.

As a matter of fact the previous Roman player in RFC game contacted me 4 month before we had to spawn (and he quitted just then) and explained me very reasonable that ROme and Carthage do not have to fight in order to win. Rome can focus on Europe, while Carthage on historical motherland and Libya. Human games are different from SP first of all in terms of the diplomacy one can coduct.
 
I think it's mostly down to the triremes. If you can surprise attack Carthage you can win. But Rome can't win an attrition war because Carthage controls the seas.
 
Well, historically Roman situation was even worse -- they built up their navy during the war, and did it again and again. Pigs can replace Fish in Roman diet for few turns , but eventually one can get those Triremes going. It is a 4 cities vs 2, don't you forget that. Why would you attack first? With 2 extra cities time is running in your favor. Start 2 Triremes in Roma and Pompeii, possibly another one in Illyria, use Mediolanum for ground troops. Your terrain is better. No way to win attrition war as Carthage if Rome plays his cards right.
 
Rome's land UHV is tight if you're trying to get the infrastructure UHV at the same time. Getting Carthage early is very useful for the infrastructure and means you con concentrate on the north.
 
True. But consider this. If one of your civs gets wiped out -- you as a player get -1 point. Meaning surviving and getting at least one UHV done gives you +1, dying gives you -1, 2 points less! Some UHVs need to be sacrificed when playing against humans. Killing them means they wont kill you and they fall behind in points even if you don't score yours.

Just the most straightforward common sense! RFC is the most iconic mod for BTS for many, so things would be really sad if Carthage-Rome wars were proven to be off balance. ..

Yes, only 21 turns until the first second civ appears. Plus with India and Egypt out academia can play his turns one after another initially.
 
Mediolanum has fallen. Any help from Babylon and Greece would be welcome, or you'll be outproduced by the enormous Carthaginian empire.

I hope Greece has Carthage's email. No need to send turns to Persia anymore.
