Rhye's Catapult

OK, so:

V.02 - Test 1 - by AD 1000

I begin with the bad news:

MAJOR PROBLEMS

The following civs DID NOT GET starting techs:

Germany
Spain
Russia
England

(well, these are all Europeans... strange?)

Civ NOT APPEARING:

France

MINOR PROBLEMS:

Overlapping of civs's lands:

China and Mongolia - Mongolia captured Seoul
(OK, this is not an error as such, but still looks strange on the map)

Persia and India - in the northern desert region, by settling there

Size of civs:

Isn't Egypt given to little land to cover?
Only 4 cities, though I admit, they are wonderfuly placed along the Nile

Persia: isn't tha many barb cities in the place of "Babylon" give
too much an advantage for Persia? She's got 5 cities this way...

random barb cities:

They are spawning here and there - can't we just get rid of things like
Hettites in Australia,
Illinois in Argentina,
Assyrian in the Far East near Japan?

And now the good news:

The new DLL with the coordinates is lovely :goodjob:

Most of the times newcomer civs are given techs properly,
and I especially welcoe the way Islam is founded in Arabia... :worship:

Yes, now the new civs get their units properly,
even when capital is a city gained from another civ... :king:

Now I run another test...

it works in my version (v022) sorry about that

Pardon?

Is there a version called v022?
...differring from v02???

Am I missing on something?

Please, Rhye, clarify this! :crazyeye:

I played once as England and noticed France spawning fine. One thing that made my day however, was that it actually changed the name of Lutetia to Paris. That was beautiful, unfortunately they still expanded into the northern part of Spain, but I think that was because there was no way they could compete against the culture I already had on the north coast of France (london had two wonders), so they couldn't go to the little horn type peninsula, as I owned it, and eventually even founded a city there (one of my only cities on the mainland). A city by the name of Gabidir, or something like that also spawned in southern Spain and was taken by Rome early on, I think that was originally intended to flip to Spain but it never did, so they were really squished between France's already established city and Rome's already even more established city. I think I'm going to try as Japan as I should be able to go through without messing up any civ spawns.

I also noticed that Egypt founded both Buddhism and Judaism, but Islam was fouded by Arabia and I'm pretty sure Hinduism was founded in India. Then I founded confucianism and I can't remember the others, oh wait, China founded Christianity and I can't remember but I think they got Taoism too, which gave them such an Economic lead they could keep their tech slider on 100% even with around 12 cities and pulled way ahead. This was only further facilitated when they wiped out the Indians, screenshot provided as it was cool.

I have also included a Screenshot from a python error I'm not sure if I reported. This was from the earlier version however, when I played as the Aztecs to see if America spawned, but didn't finish that game.

Also, I should say that Persia and Japan continue to found cities next to each other, but I like doing that and I don't want it to change.

Test 2 of v02

I still find the major problems of
European civs not getting techs
and
France not appearing in the game

Other findings:

1.
The barb city of Burgundia:
problematic, because Caesar definitely goes for it and in test 2 he did capture it,
which meant that it became Roman and then London was pushed into far north Scotland...

Spain - strat with 2 cities
In 2/2 cases only 2 cities were founded, Gadiz remaining barbarian.

Rhye, do you say there amy be sg. wrong with my Civ4 program...?
Should I try a reinstall?

Great news, and that change to Paris as name, Rhye :goodjob:

Vishaing, please tell me when did France appear? Maybe after AD 1000???

And - how about the techs? Are the new Europeans well developed?

Why not splitting civs, why not extend the game to 2200 AD or make planes function ala Civ 2 or implement the mod more trade finded in Mod forum ?

Can you make a to do list ?

Oh, my... I see Chinese warriors roaming in Scandinavia!?

EDIT:

Well, after checking that map I find that in theory it is possible in the game:
There is a coastal way all the way from China to Scandinavia :D

Now, I cleared the cache of Civ4 on my machine and what do I see
in my next run?

Yes, France! :)

BUT

I still find that techs are not given to
Isabella, Peter, Elizabeth and Bismarck

Well, Louis DID get techs, though!

Hm?

EDIT: I will make a full reinstall of Civ4...

That problem has been fixed. Now the reason that was causing it is clear, but it's kinda weird cos it has nothing to do with techs...

Anyway for the purpose of testing settlers you just have to open the world builder and give them some techs.
Give Spain, France and England Astronomy, Compass and Optics by 1500 and we'll see the results...

v0.22 is the version I have now, with that thing fixed and a few minor tweaks, but I think that giving it to you now is pointless because it suffers the same effect of 0.2, for different reasons.
The fact is that Euro civs don't colonize cos they don't trigger the broader coordinates, not having adequate techs.
If you have some ideas, please share because now China, India and Egypt found all the religions and go straight with 100% science (mainly because they have a so beautifully developed land full of towns) while euro civs lag behind.

Vishaing's screenshot proves this: how's Spain supposed to colonize south america if it's still researching construction in 1660?

there already is a to do list in the 1st page. Now we're facing some problems, and can't do too many things at the same time

What I do now is that in about AD 1200 or so I give the Europeans all ancient and classical techs in the WB (easy to do)

My idea is that Christianity should somehow go to Europe.
Idea:
Let's start Europeans sometime AD 500-800 and give them techs
so that Theology is among them.
And then randomly select one of them as founder of Christianity.
Maybe this would give a chance to build happiness and such there.

It's too bad there won't be an Israel. Jerusalem should found Christianity and Judaism, Is there any way to spawn missionaries in or around Europe? Or maybe just Greece and Italy, since that is where Christianity first started spreading?

well, on baron level only the ancient civs (India, China especially) can keep up the tech level on par with history.
Asoka was first to have Liberalism in 1635.

EDIT
Elizabeth begins Astronomy in 1675 and it will be 35 turns to get it...
(I gave Elizabeth all ancient and classical techs in 1200)

Next I will try to give the Europeans all ancient and classical tech
at the time of their birth...

I remember in Rhye's mod for Civ3 that this specifically was made impossible. Maybe something to consider for this map too...
