Rhye's Catapult

Desert should be impassable to many units, but all non-worker non-mounted sounds off. I have an idea for a solution that may be a bit more complicated than we need. We can add a Desert Combat promotion (or promotion line). It would give +10% defense in deserts and let any unit that has it enter desert squares. It would be a normal promotion available to most unit types, but it would also be given automatically to any unit trained in a city that has three desert tiles in the radius that it works. We could also have a "desert training complex" building later in the game to give any unit trained in a city that has it this promotion (to give foreigners some kind of way to invade Asia and other desert areas). Maybe Marines should always start with this promotion as well.

About selecting a name for the mod, I think we need to build up a nice big list of options and then reduce it in this thread to a list of maybe 10 or just 5 names to have a poll decide on. Rhye should have the option to veto any name off the list, and then we should have some simple system to let the participants in the thread rule out other names. Say, if five people are strongly against a name, it's removed. We can also always just have a simple yes-no vote on the list where anybody can post here yes or no on each name, and then the names with the best ration of yes to no go on to the final poll.
I can probably keep proposing all kinds of names. Should I, or does everybody here feel we have a reasonable amount of proposals already?

.60 with Spain, 1886.

Peacefull game for Spain, first war was in 1886 against the french.
Saladin is massive... to the east, he's got cities in china (he destroyed india. persia and greece was destroyed by barbs...) 1/3 of africa and a bit of Europe.
America has only 1 city.

Technology-leaders:
1. Saladin (by far..)
2. Bismarck
3. Isabella
4. Victoria
5. Louis XIV

Arabia seems to dominate every game, due to the collaps of Persia. I suggest a tiny boost of Persia, or a smaller invasion from the barbs.
Would be nice to se a medium Arabia and Persia.

Rome and Greece often get destroyed as well, and you really want them to be in the game - so you can destroy them later yourself...

In terms of the elimination of greece and Persia. It seems that the AI does not defend itself well as those 2 civs. AS a human player, we could ALL make the civs survive into the modern era.

It would be interesting to see how Arabia does when Persia and Greece are strong.

About the name-issue.. It should be SIMPLE and CATCHY. At some point, it'll be found(ed).

I think desert works alright. Don't know if it should be changed.

Yeah... that's the problem. When you play as Persia, it's pretty easy after then barbarian invasion. But the AI never seems to make it...

1 - No changes about desert.
I've just tried: it cripples Egypt and Arabia. Egypt doesn't even found a 2nd city.

2 - About the names: as we should make a big list and then reduce it, can you tell me which one of these sound weird?

- Rhye's picture of the Earth
- Rhye's portait of the Earth
- Rhye's fresco of the Earth
- Rhye's affresco of the Earth
- Rhye's painting of the Earth

3 - Would you like a change in the modern soundtrack? I was thinking about replacing half of the classical music tracks with "classic rock" songs, which should have a lyric that fits the context of Civ.

Questo e' un nome fantastico:

Sting and Craig David's Rhye's and Fall.

:D

Why not have desert cost 2 movement, like in RoX? Then there could be promotions that give 2x move in desert.
As for a name, how about "The Re-Rhye-ting of History"?;)

haha.. very funny.. not sure if it'll work :)

The RFC sounds good and straight forward..

Rhye's and Fall of civ is pretty straight forward.

I like the idea of Classic Rock songs during modern era.

Since "Rhye's" has 2 meanings, I think that the painting, fresco, image should also have a second meaning if possible.

All of those pretty much sound less like dynamic historical simulation mods and more like one-dimensional representations of our planet.

I just joined the forum, to ask this question:)
Whenever I start as either Spain, France and sometimes Arabia (when Sanaa spawns as my Capital) my first city is... a ruin! It works like a normal city, just the graphics display a city ruin.

Oh and another thing, the new version seems to have fixed the problem with Islam and Hinduism not being founded, but now Taoisme is missing.

Thanks for a great mod

I support RFC

My name suggestion:

rhye's of cIVilization
or
rhye's cIV

For the desert, Perhaps we should make it impassible to most units except: workers
units with the desert combat promotion and a few basic units like warriors
and settlers.
That way it restricts millitary action, but Egypt will still expand since they can get their settlers out. The biggest problem I can see is that the AI likely won't let their settlers go anywhere unprotected, so they won't take advantage of it, whereas a Human would realize the settler would only be unprotected for a single turn max. Maybe if we do the 'if a city has three or more desert tiles its units get the promotion for free', but that sounds like the coding might be messy. Maybe not though, I haven't looked at the code. You can probably do it with simple python, but I don't know.

I have noticed that cities in 060 sometimes appear as ruins as well. I had to restart a game as arabia due to this :(

RFC is a good name to me as well.

Here is a screenshot in 060 in which the Indian units are able to enter marsh....

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Indians_on_marsh0000.JPG

I know that they would be able to enter if there were roads, but I don't see any there.

they can in their cultural border.
The only way so change this would be set it completely impassable like mountains, but I don't think it's a good idea.

Egyptian units could move along rivers and, as marshes, inside their borders. But they didn't settle a 2nd city.
