Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

There may be a forum where this is answered, but have you had a chance to look at CivIV yet? I wonder what kinds of new things modders will be able to do with it.

Its going to be hard to move to Civ 4 with Mods like this for Civ III.

I'm playing Japan (emperor), about 2/3 done. I made some mistakes (I was 'playing' like the Epic game instead of playing the Mod!'.

Anybody have overall tips?

I suspect if I did it again, I would:

Build about 5 or 6 cities in Japan proper;
Skip cities in the nearby islands. In my game I built on them, probably a mistake. It takes a lot to settle them and these cities have poor resources, lots of jungel -- They just aren't that good.

Build at least 2 cities on the mainland, one in Korea if possible and oine in China proper. These can be bases for expansion.

Try to take one of them out (probably Korea) early (again, I didn't do this -- I probably overbuilt).

Take out the other when you get your Samurai.

Taking China seems to be the key to victory. (OK, I didn't say this was profound!) There are a lot of resources there. From there, you can go to India. If you take Korea, you should probably go on to Mongolia. It is important to get horses for cavalry.

I think China to India is probably best, since ther are a lot of luxuries and a hoirse square. From there, its Persia, Babylon, etc.

Anyway, I'm interested in other people's thoughts.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Hey Rhye,

Can you repost the link to RGC4?

Thanks,

welcome Breunor,

I used to track guides and put them on the site, but now with Civ4 out the section is dead :undecide:

Well, would you look at this. They made War Elephants available to any civ who harvests ivory! Rhye, did you have anything to do with this? Glad to see that they possibly took queues from a mod.

I'd love to think they got some of the good ideas they've implemented from this mod, but I think it's more along the lines of both Firaxis and the people around this mod taking ideas from actual real history... Alot of the changes made in both cases were more a historical correction than a brand-new original idea.

you know, after playing the mod for a while, I find atleast one thing sad.
There are lots of cool new units in the expansion, but only few of them have an icon, the others are like invisible about their icon, i.e. when having them in a transport you sometimes think the transport is empty.. pretty annoying.. also, it would be fun with even more units and technologies, especially at the modern/future age.
I think it would be fun to like play future part in this mod, since I'm a big fan of future stuff..

I certainly have no idea what this guy means! Hey, Rhye, do you have a page or thread going about any special kind of Rhye's of Civ IV or anything? It would be kinda need to play a game with 2 UUs per civ again, and Judaism is screaming for Hebrews... Just don't gimp the English this time:cry:

what do you mean?

might be some files missing, because those small icons you see when a unit is transported and so on, some unit's icons are missing.
overall the game is good, but I'd like to have lethal bombardment..
I installed it via those packages..

well personally I don't care so much about that, just felt obvious to post it.
I like the mod, although the not lethal bombardment annoys me, since I'm playing and having pretty much Ship of the line's but I can just weaken the enemies not kill them..
would be fun with lethal bombardment (I would probable be able to do it by myself though)
it would be fun with like some future techs including buildings and units and so on, I'm pretty sure of that if you ask people will come ;)

I have been enjoying this mod for a couple of days now. In my games, I have noticed that my tech research falls behind around the 16th to 19th centuries. At this moment I am playing as the Romans in the 1920s. I am dominating the continent I am on. The other civilizations are either behind me in tech or at the same level. My military tech is lagging a bit because I only have Cavalry, cannon, and fusiliers at my disposal. I am just now researching Democracy with the hope that changing the government will help me research faster.

Any advice on how to best get tech in this mod?

Play on a harder level is really the best answer. Also, more agressive exploration and trading really speeds things along.

Remember that the human player is the greatest catalyst in the tech world... try playing as an American civilization next time and you will see what I mean.

The same is true of diplomacy, war, and trade in general with the larger, geographically divided maps.

Two other options besides increasing the difficulty are:

1) Increasing the AI to AI trade rate.

2) Lowering the research cost scale rate.

I have already outlined the simpler, more effective solutions, but you may choose to use these instead.
