Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

2. I played regent, on the world map with all the civs, and the game ended before anyone but two civs had reached the modern age, the majority of the civs had not even made it to the third age yet! I downloaded this mod because one of its big selling points was that it tried to project a historically accurate timeline. What a joke! Again, it can't just be my game, because i played with all the settings the mod was meant to be played on - regent, the world map that came with the mod, and all the civs. This was so disappointing it erased all the pros for me.

The mod is balanced for realistic tech progression on EMPEROR level.

Hey Rhye's was the push I needed to advance to Emperor, before I got it I would only play Monarch. But like you I was looking for realistic tech-progression time-wise, and that forced me to become a better player! :)

Cons: 1. upgrade paths - Why cant fusiliers upgrade to rifleman?, Many of the wonder produced units cant upgrade either

1. Upgrade paths are done in the best way POSSIBLE. In your case, fusiliers and riflemen are too close to each other and belong to two different lines: the former to the all-purpose units chain including spearmen, pikemem and infantry. The latter to the gunpowder defensive units such as musketman and machinegunner. Things get worse if you consider that a unit can upgrade to just one unit, rather than a wider range of choices.
Take a look at the tech tree and you'll find out that there si no other way possible. We argued about this for over a month.
I'm actually proud of the upgrade chains RoX features. They're more complex than the standard game, featuring the all-purpose one, the defensive (archers etc.) one, the gunpowder one merging with the archers, the cheap one (urban militia, partisans etc.), the attackers (swordsmen, colonial Inf.,...)
In the standard game you have attackers and defenders, plus some disconnected units.
Regarding Fanatics etc., enabling their upgrade would unbalance the game too much. They're out of the chains.

2. Already answered: research pace matches Emperor. Timeline corrispondence is usually very accurate

I've never been too concerned with dates, especially since I'm an addict of accelerated rate :D, but the level of advancement of the world as a whole is always pretty fair. And different games almost always produce different tech leaders, with some constant trends (England and Egypt are nearly always tech leaders, etc.).

Thank you for your response Rhye, I understand the upgrade paths now. I didn't realize there were two different lines so I was very upset when playing as China i had to disband all my firelancers and build fusiliers, then disband all my fusiliers when i discovered the tech that gave me rifleman, because i wanted the best defenders in my city at all times. I guess i need to make the move up to a harder difficulty level i've won often enough on regent :) Thanks again for your response.

I´ve downloaded the complete package (including the expansion) and I´ve got some questions. Sorry in case I repeat anything asked and answered before, I only read about 10 pages of this huge threat.

1. When In look up the descriptions of a tech in the civilopedia, some units in the "enabled units" section show up several times, for example in "Iron Workings" the Swordsman is listed about 5-8 times. Why is that?

2. What do I have to do to play a game with just the basic mod, without the expansion?

1. You can't see it from the pedia, but each one of them is a different unit graphics in the game. That is, Chinese swordsman wears differently from European.

2. You have to go to the old thread or to the site, and download "basic" (it's divided in parts). But it hasn't much sense.

Is it too close to the release of Civ4 for us to produce a poster of the unit lines?
I'd be glad to do it myself if it still makes sense, but I'd need information on two things:
-The full listing of units and lines
-The resolution in pixels and in dpi for one A4 page

sounds a good idea, but I can barely remember them (I had to open the BIQ again to reply Nwoll). So, I guess reading the BIQ is the easiest way...
About the size, what's the problem. Make it enough big. You can always resize it later.

I need to know the proportions of the page, so I don't have to twist it out of shape. And I'd really prefer if someone else gets me the info so I only have to put the poster together.

As far as I understand the expansion+basic package includes all graphics, sound etc. from the basic mod, too. In this case I´d just need the *.biq-files from the basic mod to play games without the expansion stuff?

If that´s right, could someone who has those just mail them to me?

Thanks in advance
