Well, as a tester I can say that personally I prefer to use mostly the spearman all-purpose line, with a smattering of offensive and defensive units. I use the defensive units to guard the stack (only when they have better defense than the all-purpouse unit of the time) and leave them behind once I start conquering cities. I use the offensive units to crack particularly tough defenses. The all-purpose infantry does the rest of the work, including guarding cities while they await their proper defenders.
I've never tried using only defenders and attackers so I don't know how that would work. I may try sometime, it can be convenient and cheap (since defensive and offensive units are cheaper than all-purpose.)

About Spetznaz's problem, it seems like he has the mistake that we had in the .ini files... The error he has says "swordmanfortify.wav" without the space, iirc.

I have never used the all-purpose line myself, finding it pointless to use a unit that is worse at either task than the specialists. So I go with stacks made up mostly of artillery, and use the mixed defenders/attackers appropriately. If horses are available, I usually mix in a few of them, but it bugs me that they are faster than the rest of the units so I have trouble forcing myself to really make use of them as anything besides scouts/raiders.

I found that the AI cannot deal with attacking stacks that have artillery and defenders in them, so these stacks are usually capable of overwhelming the AI on their own terms.

As Arabia, I found the Ansar Warrior to be such a superior unit that it was capable of carrying the entire brunt of my offensives upon its own shoulders. When mixed with the defensive advantages of the Saracen bowman, you really can overwhelm anyone who stands against you with either your high speed attacker or your plodding defenders/artillery!

Arabia needs to be upgraded on the power chart, because they have been one of the strongest civs I have played as!

The Junk is useless; it costs the same, carries the same, is slower, and has a lower attack. Preeeety pointless, especially when you realize it turns into the caravel, while the Galley turns into the Galleass (that just looks wrong ;p)... Rhye, really there needs to be a reason to build the Junk

Perhaps you could speed it up a bit, reduce its cost, and reduce the galley line's carry capacity to one.

I find that I use the horses more in the X-pack, I like the hore archer the most. This might be because I've only played one non-beta game ad it was as China, with the Qin Spearman, I didn't need to build spear men, archers or Crossbows. Prehaps you could make the terracota army produce one every 7 turns, instead of 5.

The fact is that AI loves the junk, and I tried (successfully) to make it like galleys a bit more. I'll try to reduce transport capacity, hoping that this hasn't heavy effects on colonization

Hey there, can somebody do the right thing and post a concise, coherent and complete list of download instructions?

I have downloaded all the files listed and still cannot get this damn thing to work. You would think the creators could be a bit more coherent on this, after all there are 7 or so files to download.

Thanks,
J

The fact is that the file uploaded in 3D downloads was put in the wrong folder by Thunderfall. I'll tell him to upload again when (if) I make the 2.66.

For now, combine installation instrucionts in the readme with extracting it from \RoC_v265

Rhyse, look I love your work man, but I just don't understand why the download instructions are so vague. It is like 3 lines in the ReadMe doc, come on man, be more concise. Fact is, I am not a Civ Insider and don't understand all the nuts and bolts of this stuff. I just want to be able to download the Mod and play. What I end up havign to do (and had to do with this mod) is move files from other folders and such....why?

Also, I finally got this to work but then (just like with the Netherlands in RaR) it crashes when I hit Austria. I get an Invalid Page Fault in Conquests.Exe. Like I said this same error keeps me from playing with the Netherlands in RaR. Is there some reason this keeps happening?

Thanks,
J

Clarification: I am playing as America and have discovered Combined Arms, but I cannot upgrade my Colonial Infantry OR build neither USMC or Marines.

My bad. it was a 180x180 map using RaR rules (Rhye's created I believe), it was either the dutch or the Scandinavians. I had to delete it due to constant crashes. Now the same thing happens with Austria using the new mod.

1) Why? Because Thunderfall packed the 4 parts into 1 and moved it to 3D Downloads. And he added a folder that shouldn't be there. It's not my fault.

2) Never happened that Invalid page fault, to anyone. Try to re-install the game.

Man o man, I guess I am just not meant to play these great mods. I thought it worked but alas, after leaving out the Ethiopians, Israelis and Austrians, I proceeded and got the age old message "File something or other not found. Game will now exit" So......now I am supposed to go through the entire process of moving more files around. What a crock. Is there some reason we have to move files from the 2.65 folder to the 1.01 folder? Am I doing something wrong in the installation process? What gives? For that matter, why are there 3 folders for this, RoC_v265, Rhye's of Civilization X and Rhye's of Civilization XF? What do these all mean and again why do I need to keep moving files from one to another? Forgive me if I am rude about all this, but I just want to play this mod but due to lack of explanation of the process I am confused. Please help. I reinstalled and got the same message by the way, just like with RaR.

outside of it????? what does that mean? Into the scenarios folder? or into the X or XF folder? and what about the X and XF folders, what do they do? it is the 1.01 scenario I am having file issues with.....do I keep them or move them as well? Feel free to elaborate in your replies. :)

I too have been having similar problems, wondering what in hades did i do wrong ? from the last page on this my prayers are answered. Can't wait to play, I've enjoyed an earlier version in past cant wait to see 2.65 and your exp. pack. Thanks.

Yes move everything out. There should be 2 things, one is the biq file and the other is a folder "Rhyes of Civilization". Cut and Paste into the Scenarios directory, delete empty RoC_v265 folder.

Everything started working after that !!!

Hey experts, when you reply to these pleas for help, reply as if the person knows nothing. You all seem to think we all know as much as you do. We all do not. I do not know every little acronym you do nor do I know every file required to play these games. I am sure I am not the only one. Keep that in mind and be CONCISE.

Thanks for all you hard work, energy and help.

Talk about a bad roll of teh dice. I am playing as the Iroqouis. It is 1150 BC, and I am trying to destroy Washington with a stack of 6 Spearmen. I cannot defeat a single palace guard. I have even reloaded several times. Can't do it. And of course I won't be able to get any iron until Washington is taken. Were the guards supposed to be this tough?

Oh, and FYI this is my second attempt at RoX, and I noticed that load times are much longer than in RoC or when playing RoX as the English (first time through)

Thanks Ace Dragoon, that did work, however Austria still crashes my system. UGH. I am using Windows 98 on a 5 year old laptop, could that be part of the problem? I know I am not the only one getting "Invalid Page Fault" errors, as I have seen it on other boards, I just can never find any solutions. It doesn't help when the board is 223 pages long, hard to find stuff on those. Oh well, I will just have to keep Austria, Israel and Ethiopia out of the game (which sucks) and hope for the best.

Thanks again,
J

I don't know if this has been said (I'm not going to read 223 pages to see if it has), but i noticed some irregularities (and stuff I thought was incorrect) when dowloading your expansion pack. They were:

1. The readme is stated for v1.00 (perhaps you need to update it?)
2. In the readme religion part civs where atributed the letters MUS (I suppose for MUSlim) but in the Key there was written ISL = Islam
3. The readme states that the second (new) uu for ethiopia is the shifta... wasn't that the old uu (I'm not sure if that was changed from RoC v2.62 to v2.65)
4. The folder downloaded in the x-pack part 4 is named Rhye's of Civilization XF (typo maybe?)
5. India changes from Hinduism to Islam... why? There are way more hindus than muslims in India today. I don't believe india has ever had a majority of muslims (I might be wrong though). Yes, northern india was ruled by muslim mughals in the 1500's and onwards for some time... but the citizen majority where hindus.

The expansion pack looks really awesome and I can't wait to start a game with it (have my own private version of RoC to finish first though... with plenty of unit additions of its own)

keep up the good work!

MvH
Johan
