I noticed that in the v .11 biq France is selected as able to build the regular army. Maybe if they weren't able to build the regular one, it would work.

Didn't I unckeck France in the army? OK thanks, I'll do it now.
Please test a-bomb, kamikaze, war wagon and balloon, so that in the same time I'll make the civilopedia.

EDIT: no it doesn't work. I'll try to give France a different leader

Infantry tree needs work. You have Guerrilla=Rifleman, but coming in later, and Partisan=Musketmen, same thing. Before and after those two everything seems fine in terms of infantry, but those are redundant.

Either Partisan and Guerrilla need some kind of special coolness, or they need to go. Maybe you could make them move faster, or give them higher attack and lower D, I am sure that they already ignore some terrain, but really they need something to make them stand out besides the fact that they have different reqs and anim. Something that makes them at all worth the time to build.

I like how you put pikemen with Chivalry, makes sense splitting them off like that.
Moving the carrier was a good idea too... but don't you think it would make more sense to put it with the bomber and fighter than with the paratrooper and marine?

That tech needs a new name too... Advanced Tactics possibly? Not a very good name, but goes along with Advanced Flight for the other non-reqd tech.

How about slightly bumping up the Biplane bombard; it would make it a little more useful... no, it really wouldnt, would it... ;p

Not really understanding the logic behind balloons... especially with them being that far forward on the tech tree. Balloons as recon were used in American Civil War, and knowing how far behind both sides were technologically in that (think about how machine guns were already widely used twenty years before, and the Americans have muzzle loading black powder rifles), I have a feeling that balloons were much earlier than... say... the Destroyer. Perhaps put them in Steam Power?

Just as a curiousity statement, why are the most famous road builders in the world (Romans) not an industrious civ? Its true of regular civ too. Dat does not make sense ;p

K well its pretty late here, so Im going to bed.

-> partisan and guerrilla are not wheeled. Didn't I set them that way? Let me see....yes I did.

-> Anphibious Warfare will become Combined Arms (as in Civ2), but I still haven't touched the tech tree.

-> Rome is Ind/Exp in RoC.

-> the zeppelin replaces the balloon for the Germans, and the zep was invented nearly in 1900. That's the reason for the late balloons (but the tech "combustion" seems appropriate.

-> the biplane....tell me how much bombard should I give them

On balloons.

Whilst hot air balloons were first invented in 1783 - they were largely used for fixed line recon missions. The reason for this is that it wasn't until 1960 that someone made the step of putting a burner on board - by then they were useless militarily and far better balloon (blimp, zeppelin etc) tech had already passed its effectiveness.

As strange as it sounds I would be tempted to redraw it as a tile improvement - static but clearing the fog of war for say 8 squares, using up a worker like an outpost.

Oh another improvement that could be snuck in for defence against early flight would be barage balloons.

The Armée has some problems.

It can be built with the Military Academy, but there's no way to obtain it with a leader. I tried to make an army upgradeable to the armée, but it doesn't work.

So I've got now 4 solutions:

1) Keep it only for the Military Academy. The animation sucks, I must fix it if I can.

2) Make the French UU the Voltigeur (fusilier replacement)

3) Make the French UU the Imperial Guard (fusilier replacement)

4) Make the French UU the Gallic Swordsman (swordsman replacement)

Gallic swordsman would have been nice if Rome had a chance to expand and imperialize... Hopefully with the new UU and the adjustments to the Legion it could, but I truly think with the Byzantines in the way, neither of the factions representing the Roman Empire has a good chance to rise to Rome's full historical glory.

I've only been away for a week and more than ten pages have passed! A lot to catch up on.

Rhye, I'll check out the biq soon, but are there any things you specificaly want comments on? Or just anything that I can think of?

Basically you should look at lastest biq I sent (0.11) and take a look both in the editor and in the game.
When this part of the work (the UUs) is complete, I'll begin the next steps.

Now what I need first is a reply to my question above. The fact is that French can build the Grande Armée, but a French leader creates a standard army.

I may have missed this bit of discussion but I don't see the French 'Improved Army' being much use, as the AI in Conquests rarely (like never) builds or uses Armies even if it has one. I thought this was one of the unfixed Firaxis bugs?

If this is still so, then I would go for one of the Fusilier replacements. I don't think the French should get a golden age in the ancient era.

Rhye, I was wondering if we could have version 2.63 without that new unit we are waiting for and have you add it later or in X-pack? Another thing I have noticed is the Romans and others use galleys and follow the sea path to the new world sometimes. I was thinking maybe make some ships wheeled like in R&R so we don't see Galleys colonizing :crazyeye: !

I think the Elephant release is close. I wouldn't like to release 2.63 AND 2.64.

About the sea corridor, which one? Iceland to England is removed since 2.62.

And wheeled galley already are in the X-pack, thanks :)

well, we could try...who knows, maybe a very improved army could convince the AI to build it....
However I'm having much trouble with this unit. It seems that the army flag messes us the palettes. I really don't know why.

EDIT: I've fixed the graphical problem. It seems that armies use different palettes.

I would go with a Fusilier replacement as well. The French are already too powerful in the ancient age, anyway.

Just a little note: balloons should be late medieval age. I know they were commonly used for survellaince in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Rhye,

The route to South America was the corridor I was talking about.

yes there's the sea corridor, but it is for caravels, as galleys can't end their turn in sea.

Is scientific method OK?

I'd like to know how will AI use the War Wagon. It is sooo cool to use (transports 2 ground units) and it has attack and defense.

It won't transport units inside it. It doesn't know how.

It will probably build them and stick them in cities for the most part.

BTW, why would you put units inside the war wagon anyway? It's not very fast.

I'm testing with the Romans and see a few issues. The 3/3/1 +1 hp Legion shouldn't upgrade to the 3/2/1 Urban Militia. The Militia is an inferior unit by far. Maybe let the legion hang around until Pikeman. The Legion is just unstoppable with the extra hit point. Maybe further increase the cost to 60.

Also, why does the ballista upgrade to trebuchet? They have the same stats. Is 8 bombard a mistake for the Ballista? Should it be 6 like the catapult was?
