Rhye's of Europe Civ Discussion Thread

Haven't been here in a while, great job so far. You're really deep into the production at this point, but I hope there's still room for an idea or two!

I noticed a new unique building for Burgundy which was the winery that replaced the brewery. This is an interesting thought, which we made me question the building of breweries when playing as Civs like the Iberian and Italian Civs... They never really brewed beer in that time period but were limited to wine like the Burgundians in the mod. (While Spain and Portugal have gotten tastes for it in modern times, the Italians still aren't into beer at all)

A cool idea would be to arrange for ALL of those southwestern Civs to build wineries instead of breweries. It won't be advertised as a unique building but just something players would notice and appreciate the accuracy of. They would probably have the same benefits too. Or one would get a bonus from wine, and the other from barley and the other beer resources. This implies making a new UB for Burgundy though. :undecide:

Two obvious additions need to be the Maghrebian civilization and the Celtic Civilization.

Any other additions are largely extraneous.

It's placed 500 AD, I thought the same untill I saw the timescale :0

Well, if not the Maghrebs, then at least the Celts. Or at least make the barb Celts (Welsh Longbowman and Highlanders) more vicious/significant than they already are, because right now, they are pathetic.

We won't add the celts as a playable civ, but I absolutely agree with making the celtic barbarians more significant

Hmm this could work. Did the maghrebian civ last long? aka is it relevant to the mod. This could potentially solve north africa issues with the mod (the fact that its on average 90% empty).

could this perhaps fit into what you were talking about? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almohad_Caliphate

or just split up the abbasid (were considering arabs abbasid right?) into the two parts: Arabs and Magrebs?

I do think the Arabs need a boost. Currently they slowly expand west (not quickly as in history) and lag behind in tech, when in history they were some of the major leaders in science and technology. They should perhaps get their science penalty reduced (its so hard to research techs with them)

Also weren't the celts pretty much wiped out/assimilated into the roman empire? It seems weird to have them as a civ in 500 AD

The Celts were not wiped out in Scotland, Ireland, or Wales no. Everywhere else, they were.

And I wasn't specifically using the Almohad Dynasty as an example, but they were certainly a dynasty in Northern Africa.

Will there be a major northwest African Muslim Civ? Like Almoravids or something

Yes, just not a playable one.

For the Celts, there was a long discussion some time ago. The "barbs" are Celts or Slavs or whatever else in the appropriate region. We should probably add unique names, but other than that, this is the way they are going to be represented.

Do you ever get that special feeling when you meet the Lithuanians?

I don't know. I think their leader is more like Lord Farquaad than anything else.

IIRC you said that about the previous (temporary) Vytatutas, not this one :)

We have a new one? I can't keep up with graphics :crazyeye:

Pff, till 4 months or so? :P :D

Come on, this is the same guy. The background is different, the clothes are different (the crown is the same), the hair color is different (hair cut is the same), but the only difference in the face is that it is about 10 years younger. For all intensive purposes, one is a modified version of the other, just like our Pope Winston Churchill.

Actually no, AFAIK they are not based on the same LH

I didn't understand 3Miro's reference to Shrek until I actually saw the post with Vytau.. Lord Farquaad, Grand Duke of Lithuania. That is UNMISTAKABLY the King of Far Far Away. And I think they used the Frederick the Great of Prussia LH, by the way. :D
