Riddle of Ages: Travelling Through History

Alexander the Great?

I don't know, I'm a dumb. :p

But he said that of calling many places his own and that triggered me.

Wow, something told me I was right, although not much sure. I'll be thinking for a couple of days, prolly. Not keen on this. :undecide:

@Buddha: from the north meaning from Macedonia? :satan:

It was north of Greece and of Pretty much all he conquered.

I'll just give a quick explanation on the riddle:

From the north he rode,
as was his charge.

He came from Macedonia, his charge was being King after Phillip II was assassinated
As he took power,
he called his country to arms.

He started campagining against the Persians
He was showered with names,
King of Macedon , Pharoah of Egypt, Lord of Asia, etc...
and called many places his own.
Named 20+cities after himself
But it was not to last,
as he was done in by his own.

His army forced him to turn back at India
And his only defeat
was meeting his kin, once more.

He never lost a battle, but he died at a young age, thus his only "losing battle".

So, Joan, are you going to make a new riddle now?

Argh. I wish I could, but I have lots of exams this week, and I'm really bad at trying to make riddles, so if anybody wants to take my place...

Alright, I'll go again.

The Presidents went to war.
One from behind and one in front.
Three in the middle in the past and present.
But over the waters they fought,
and independence turned sour
as they lost and gained millions,
while losing to the three Republics.

Your riddle seems to have stumped everyone. I don't suppose you could give us a hint?

Personally, I suspect it has something to do with one of the various wars involving Bolivia. Maybe the Pacific War, but other than that I have no idea.

At first I thought "War of the Triple Alliance", but Brazil wasn't a republic then.

Another thing I thought of was the Mexican-American War. "Over the waters" could mean the United States fighting for access to the Pacific Ocean, and the three republics could refer to the USA, the Republic of Texas, and the Californian Republic.

I'll give it to taillesskangaru. Mexican-American War.

The Presidents went to war.
One from behind and one in front.
Three in the middle in the past and present.
Behind was Polk, In front was Taylor.

Middle were Sam Houston (Past-Texas), Santa Anna (Mexico), Grant (America)
But over the waters they fought,
and independence turned sour

The rivers that each of them thought should be the boundaries.
as they lost and gained millions,
lost land, gained money
while losing to the three Republics.
California, Texas, America.

Sorry if it was confusing, I'll make it a bit clearer next time.

A son of the House of Iron,
A Mongol king of legendary riches,
It was art that made him famous,
It was grief that made him immortal,
But from sickness he cannot escape,
And from sickness came bitter fratricide,
And in prison he ended his days,
Gazing out to his monument of love.
