Ridiculously long save and load time

Similar problem to everyone else: game takes ages to load from Steam; save games take ages to load; takes a while to end turns in late game.

I mentioned "memory leak" because the game uses over 3GB of ram for me(see my reply after the one you qouted). There is no way in hell a game of this scale needs even close to 2GB of system ram to run smoothly, let alone 3+. GTA 4 doesn't even come close to that amount.

That certainly smells like a memory leak, especially when the GB used increases over time(watch your task manager). However, I have noticed it not using as much ever since taming my save files...so they are related.

Search for "memory leak" in the civ5 section here, some people who know about software development have already explained pretty well that given the info we have, we can't claim reasonably claim there's a memory leak.

Turn 133 - saved Modded game last night. Now crashing 30sec into loading. Will not do anything so I use Task manager to get out of game. Says runtime error.... so I close down. Have tried this several times.

If you are loading one of the cleaned saves from within the game(after having already loaded once), I crash too. I can only load the cleaned saves once, from the desktop, fresh start.

But you shouldn't need that file cleaner anymore if you follow the steps: load once fresh from desktop, then never load again unless you quit to desktop first. Don't quick save, don't manually save, allow the game to auto save(I chose every round and 10 saves). This only works from a NEW GAME! Bloated/cleaned saves are too late.

I have payed numerous games now upto standard size, well past 400 turns and my saves are always below 1MB in size which results in quick loading but not game fresh quick of course.

I will, thx.

I have noticed since doing my autosaving/no loading scheme, the game has not used more than 1.6GB ever since. A huge difference from the 3GB when my save files were huge. There has to be a connection regardless of what terminology is used to describe it.

Well, I think the general symptoms of a memory leak is that no longer needed memory isn't cleared and marked as free, hence needing more and more memory over time, finally resulting in a crash or at least a slow down. In that way, this save game prob somewhat looks like a "memory leak", as the save games get bigger and bigger over time for no real reason.

I gave up on Civ V, with this worse performance, the memory leaks and the load/save issues, I found myself being happy playing Civ IV again. Forget cool graphics and great hexfields, the gameplay in IV is indeed better - what a pitty :(

Have they fixed this problem yet? It seems if I load a lot and auto save a lot then this problem will occur. It may not be "and" though. I have 8GB of memory and Civ 5 takes up about 2.3 on a standard map ATM.
