[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

When I see the "a significant number went back to Civ5", it vaguely annoys me. Mainly because of the history of the Civ series.

After all, when Civ 5 vanilla was released, it was lambasted and many, many of us stayed on Civ4 long into the 1st and even 2nd expansion. The fact that the Civ6 numbers are climbing to equal or exceed the Fully Complete Civ 5 numbers *before* the 1st expac is officially released is a positive sign.

Remember that Civ4 didn't have Steam integration, so nobody really knows how long the transition took. Just using myself as an example, I had Civ6 (deluxe) on release day, played a few small games, saw it wasn't polished much yet, and went back to Civ4 until a few weeks ago.

Now I've spent an insane amount of time learning the game just in time for the expansion.

R&F might be the only thing that could make Civ VI the greatest Civ game among the majority of longtime Civ players.
And thus Tamar of Georgia lifts the Civ series into the greatest Golden Age it has ever seen along with Indigenous Canadian representation, not Gandhi led India, and Polders.

I really hope they do go with 3 expansions, it's been a dream of mine since Civ IV. Always seems to die off after two though :(

I really hope not. Civilization expansions always had 2 problems:

1. Fitting expansion mechanics with base game ones.
2. Not enough patching cycles after the last expansion as the game lifetime is close to an end by that time.

Having third expansion would double both problems. I'd prefer early and solid second expansion with several DLC accompanied with patches afterwards. But I understand the problems with post-expansion DLC and I don't see any clear solution too.

If we actually see channels in the second expansion, the Civ6 will reach perfection and collapse the universe around itself.

Do you mean canals?

Sorry, fixed. Non-native speaker mistake, they both are the same word in Russian :)

Well, they are essentially the same thing. Canals are just man made channels. :)

Would love to see canals in Civ VI. People keep asking for them. Listen to your fans Firaxis! ;)

Am I the only one waiting for information about emergencies? There was absolutely nothing except from the initial anouncement and there are only 4 weeks until release.

Just dogpile on the leader, I suspect. It was something I absolutely hated about Civ III. Lol.

I mean they apparently weren't in 1 or 2; 3 and 4 only added in expansions. 5 was the only one where they were in Vanilla (and they were the least played Civ in vanilla per achievements - which is not surprising since they weren't great outside of the Janissary). So they don't appear overly high on Firaxis's priority list.I was assuming the existence of the Janissary from the Poland scenario made them more likely (they already have unit model), but I maybe that was originally intended as their only appearance!?

Those achievements will give false reads. The ottoman achievement was bugged on release I believe and is one of the more obnoxious ones to get.

The unique district has a few options:

Inca - Machu Picchu as a GD replacement
Ottomans/Mali - unique CD
Zulu - Ikhanda as an Encampment replacement

I can't think of any other likely ones.

What the heck is the culture civ going to be? Hoping for Ashanti.

So far all districts had only one UD. If that's the same, we have quite short list of candidates not having UD yet:
1. City center. Unlikely to have UD as that's similar to just Civilization ability.
2. Encampment. That's quite likely candidate for militaristic Civ. Yes, this would probably mean Zulu, although with Celts they could have some nice twist, i.e. more defensive or economic variant.
3. Commercial Hub. Most likely candidate, IMHO. This could mean Ottomans with Bazaar or Çarşı.
4. Aerodrome. Quite late for UD and I believe all civs known for strong aviation are alredy in game. Unlikely.
5. Spaceport. Even less likely for a number of reasons.

Canada is known for it's aerial prowess in WWI, but I doubt that would be worth representing in a civ depiction of them.

Well, that would be quite fun. Imagine Canada itself, which was debated that much. On top of this add some weird Unique Infrastructure, like Unique Aerodrome. On top of this, throw some strange UU, like Military Engineer replaceent. That would be quite fun :)

I can see a Civilization with an Encampment as a UD without being a militaristic (or super-militaristic one) : Carthage. You could have a Encampment UD which give you a additional trade route if a barrack or stable is built in in this district, plus some other bonuses (must be built on the coast, but can be used to built naval units, with double defense and some gold in top of that). Something like that. Dunno, but it seems it could be awesome and a really new way to play Civ VI

Yes. Arthur Roy Brown shot down the Red Baron.

I'm wondering about this myself. I'm wondering if perhaps they can't get them to work well, and may actually remove them. Or as I strongly suspect, they are so minor an effect, that it really won't have any noticeable effect on gameplay.
