[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

I have more of a feeling that the left side of the river is the golden age and the east side of the river is the dark age... I agree that a Cappadocian natural wonder (Göreme?) is likely, however.
Also, I don't relate the temple of Artemis as a wonder to the Ottomans or Turkey, since it was build by a different culture and population and destroyed long before those two came around.
and yes @Eagle Pursuit I wondered about the minarets all over the place as well...

For the The Temple of Artemis to fit on an Anatolian civ would have to make it Hellenic. The Temple of Artemis was built in Lydia, which is making me very very excited right now. Queen Omphale is looking better. She's the ultimate origin for Cirsei Lannister from GoT. Her husband, the king gets killed by a boar, she ultimately takes power and has Heracles as her personal "captive." She's got a great story & wow... I'm getting jittery.!

The thing that someone actually gets scared when they hear Moroccan themes... I mean... Lots of people dislike them, but they aren't that bad, or are they? :D

She might like something Lebanese and lighter. Try David Byrne and Eno's mix of
this at Christmas instead of those stodgy old carols.
Play it loud, so your neighbours can appreciate it too!

I was going to say "Yes it was the trailer, no it was not shown before release".

But then I realised that "Launch Trailer" means absolutely nothing in the game marketing world, and that the "Launch" trailer came out a few days before the game

So yes they did reveal the intro cinematic (shortly) before release. Oops.

I'm just getting more confused lol

@Guandao

Is your mother afraid of the ululations in Shaka's war theme from BNW?

Strangely, not really. Something about female wailing bothers her. It could be the Islamic influence in those themes. She's not fond of Muslims in general from her experience living in Malaysia.

That would make sense, since Songhai and Morocco are/were both Muslim, and India has quite big Muslim population. Mughals were Muslims, too.

We've run out of new information to discuss and are now bantering about my mom's taste in music. :p
Time to get back on topic.

The more I think about all the ties to Lydia, the more excited I get:
1. Cappadocia (especially with the hot air balloons)
2. Temple of Artemis
3. Merchant civ (they were said to be the first to develop coins & markets)
4. Female ruler Queen Omphale
5. Ancient civ/Hellenic: Sparta v. Troy (Lydia), Macedon v. Sardis (Lydian capital), Persia v. Lydia -- three civ connection

A lot of incentives...

Omphale is mythological. But again, Gilgamesh is in the game, though Gilgamesh is much more likely to be real (with historians arguing that the "two-thirds divine" part is a mythological addition).

Four more days until the apparent First Look video on Tuesday.... I hope Firaxis surprises us with the Civ/Leader choice.

Or maybe they'll reveal Canada :p

She was an actual person who had fables written/told about herself. She's known as a legendary mortal, not a deity. It's very well perceived that she existed.

Attic Hellenic kingdoms & city-states carry a very strong element of Ancient Egyptian ideology in the sense that the greater/more well known a leader you are, your name will never die. Therefore you gain immortality. Great kings & queens became part of mythological tales this way. This is the similar logic of Gilgamesh.

Well... We already have USA, England and Australia as English speaking countries. While I won't mind it, I'd rather wait with it... However, it may be interesting addition.

Lydia might be interesting, but I'd prefer the Hittites--I've had quite my fill of Hellenes in Civ6. :p (Also, there's still no consensus that Troy was Lydian--that a Lydian inscription was found there is not conclusive evidence. Cf. there are Phoenician inscriptions in Egypt or Akkadian inscriptions in Elam. More evidence is needed.)

ETA: I'm aware that the Lydians were Hellenized Anatolians not Hellenes, but still they were heavily influenced by Greek culture and language.

Except that the entire point of the Epic of Gilgamesh is that there is no immortality for mortals; only the gods are immortal. ;) Mesopotamian religion was kind of a downer. :p

What a coincidence - we were learning about the Epic of Gilgamesh today :D

Civ 6 Fans:

Will there ever be a patch to the work and production lost when a Wonder is built before you finish it. In Civ 4 or 5? you received Gold for the amount of production you put into it before it was stolen from you with 1 turn left by an AI. Do you believe Firaxis will update that you will get compensated in gold with the amount of production you spent on building a Wonder when it's finished by another player or AI.

Thanks

Brew God

The are like hints in the whole trailer right? The map shown with the gun laying on top of it shows a map with dutch names. Also a polder maybe a big hint of the polder improvement aswell?

That and the fact that Gilgamesh showed up in my game today reminds me: as long as the developers decided to make Gilgamesh look like a Greek demigod, they seriously missed an opportunity to depict him cuddling a lion. :mischief:

Maybe. Some people are putting a lot of faith in it.
