[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Very well, since Seondeok is revealed, and since the Firaxis logo is supposed to be on every leader, did anyone find the Firaxis spiral on her?

I didn't, but I found some spirals on Alexander's armour.

Mhrm, it looks more like the reefs from beyond earth. Maybe they want to make sea settling more popular?

Building cities on the backs of turtles would be cool!
Maybe Dr. Doolittle is the 9th leader. :)

At 0:29 it looks like there is some sort of new "reef" tile in the sea; it doesn't appear that you can build on it with boats (to at least they've improved everything with boats apart from this tile) and it yields +1 Production. I can't see on the map that they've met Auckland [yet] to get their bonus for it.

Someone in the R&F features thread mentioned turtles as a new resources, so maybe that's it. I long ago proposed reefs being a coastal terrain feature that yielded food and science when worked, maybe it's something along those lines.

Is there any problem with turtles?

No problem with the concept. I totally get it. I just feel there are plenty of other options that are more suitable.

Personally I’m a fan of tubers, hemp, seals, buffalo (be it bison or water buffalo), camels...

Some of those seem more like Bonus/or Strategic resources than Luxury ones.

You may be correct on this. I think the ocean has plenty of resources already. The desert & arctic need stuffs. Camels would be cool imo.

The announcement did say "3 new resources" and I don't class a "reefs" as a resource; I think they are just a terrain feature like Floodplains, Marsh, Jungle and Forest (according to the coding Floodplains are the same but cannot be removed in the game). So that means we will still get Turtles, Date Palm and Amber (still not 100% convinced on that last one) but I think reefs will just be a little production boost on coast tiles just like Atolls were in Civ5 (would be interesting if you can remove them or not; and if you can build a Kumpung in or around it)

At 1:02 of the first look video we can see that walled wonder with a pier again. It's next to the Mausoleum at Helicarnasus and a Theatre District. It;s not on a desert tile and doesn't seem to have any specific requirements about it other then being built on land adjacent to the coast. And more guesses at what it could be now we have a new angle?

The architecture reminds me of Dubai personally; but I doubt it is from the UAE, more likely Oman.

Some people think it's the Husuni Kubwa palace of the Swahili.

So I do hope they roll out the World Congress again so that I can embargo the turtle, ivory, and fur trade. Sometimes, the environmentalist in me comes out, even for digital animals. Of course, it helps that I am taking happiness/amenities away from competitors.

if you look at the icons on the top right corner in the first look theres an icon resembling the world congress icon in civ 5

I had a dream that Save the Endangered Species might be one of the new historic moments implemented that might raise your Era Score. It would be available at Conservation Civic but would require you to remove all your improvements on those resources plus whales. It would be a trade off between amenities or higher era score.

Or you could just have them change into sources of tourism.

I don’t have the heart to do ivory or whale resource production in the game at all. My family made their money off fur when they came to America so for whatever reason that doesn’t bother me as much. Turtles would clutter that.

Would be interesting if they added an “exotic animals” bonus resource where each one is a different exotic animal. When in a National Park, it’s protected & yields a bonus? Just an idea..
