[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

& on the topic of white & gold... Lydia is certainly a contender :goodjob:

My great-great grandfather had a direct role in the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. He was best friends with William Lyon Mackenzie {my vote} & one of 12 who Queen Victoria exiled to Van Diemen's Land. His father was a prominent figure at the time got him pardoned because he only had one leg, though the Queen exiled him from the Commonwealth. Fortunately President Buchanan saw it as a brave act of loyalty to the US (which it was) & gave him & his sons land in Michigan to start over again.
What a fascinating story.

Bump:

Let's guess the remaining luxury resources.

Looks like the "date palm" is actually olives.

Toronto had snow a few days ago and will have snow in the next few days.
Calgary had great weather for most of December and then bam! Almost 20cm of snow.
For White and gold what about the Ashanti?
Kumasi has yet to be seen in any video.

The million dollar question is: will there be additional DLC civs once R+F is released?

I think they will. They're onto a good thing, and they know it ;)

In the Korea stream, there were options to either keep or refuse the city. In the refuse option's tooltip it was said that the city will remain free and will not ask to join your civ again, but it might still join some other civ.

In IV if you refused a cities request to join your empire, it ceased to be. In terms of loyalty pressure, that makes more sense to me. I guess I'm asking too much but I wish you had the option to at least turn said city into a settler and move it...

I don't like Australia's new colours, but it's not the final build yet..
But I like the new colours of Netherlands, its readable now.

I also don't like Australia's new colours.

Too bad yellow and green were taken by both Brazil and Arabia.

I'm with you. pgm123 posted this pic; which to me screams yellow and blue, rather than yellow n green.

Here was my response from another thread :)

"Australian Cricket with both colours as the main one:

Australian League Team:

Australian Rugby team:

You can't tell me that Brazil is more Yellow n Green than that!
(Though I do appreciate that different shades can be used...)"

I am actually curious how they did end up for that colour combination for Arabia. The flag of the Ayyubids was only yellow close to orange (in wikipedia).

It does represent the Islamic Caliphate, and the color of Islam is green. And as you said, the color of the Ayyubids is yellow. Maybe Firaxis just chose to combine the two.
I never found the colors strange, but the symbol...

Australia's colours should have been the inverse of Egypt's, but that would involve changing Arabia's as well. (to Gold and WHITE, as per their flag)

Speaking of colors, I guess Indonesia's color change means Morocco is pretty much out of the running for this expansion? Not that I considered them likely (or really wanted them for this expansion, I'd prefer Mali) in the first place, but still.

Not necessarily. Morocco's medieval flag was a chess board on a ruby background, and Red + Black hasn't yet been taken as a colour combination. The Moroccan royal standard is dark green, their "war flag" dark blue. The Berber flag is yellow-green-blue, the Al-Andalus flag a bright orange and white (the same colours scheme used by Australia until this expansion pack, actually!), the Granada flag is cream on coral. There are plenty of options for a Moroccan/Moorish/Berber Civ besides the red + pine green we've had in C5.

A DLC may be the ideal place for them to launch Canada, they could include a wonder and scenario as well. Anyway, a Canadian DLC would probably sell a lot, and it would bother some people less, since they would have the option of not buying.

I would prefer this as well. Would probably still buy it to be honest, but at the same time I don't feel like Canada is worthy of being included in an expansion.

Forty-nine days!

With the first winter day, the snow has arrived here in Paskov :snowlaugh:

Winter started three weeks ago. December 1st, just ask any metereologist.

Forty-eight days. The snow melted :(

Who are "metereologists"?
Just kidding, I know you were talking about meteorologists. The meteoroligist winter indeed started three weeks ago. But I was talking about astronomical winter :p
Also, I don't believe the meteorologists. One year, they promised loads of snow. It snow only four times, and only once, it could be called "load of snow" :p

Lol hasn't this ^^^ argument already happened elsewhere in these forums recently-ish?

Actually that is partially correct. The flag of the Caliphate during the Ottoman period was green. Actually even during that period ((somewhere from 1516 till 1924) the flag had undergone some changes. The Rashidun Caliphate used a black flag, the Umayyads that succeeded them used a white flag and the Abbasids also had a black flag. There is only the Fatimids who used a green flag. So the Arabic Caliphates used mostly either white or black.

I was more hinting towards a possible change for the color of Arabs. Maybe they went for a yellow/orange - white color for them and used their current color combination for another civ.

Just to make sure, I wasn‘t talking about flags but the color green which is the ‚holy color‘ of Islam (if you allow this simplyfication) and always was since the time of its founding, the Quran and Hadiths.

Of course Arabia =/= a certain religion in civ, but it is still clearly based on Islam in its abilities.
