[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Didn't the Chinese 2K leak something else as well inadvertently? One of the first DLC or something?

During the run-up to Vanilla they revealed several civs prior to their First Looks.

Oh really? I never realized that. Which Civs?

I can't remember which ones, but it happened several times. It was after the leader poster and the Civilopedia Incident, so we didn't really learn anything. It only told us which was coming next.

Are you talking about them teasing on Chinese forums? Those were obscure, though - along the lines of “two reveals this week”, “a returning leader from the franchise”, etc

Maybe that was it. My memory of the details is getting fuzzy.

Peter the Great was leaked as the Russian leader that way. He was already identified as a possible leader during the Leader Bingo, but the leak confirmed he was in.

Don't forget about how @Karmah correctly predicted Nubia a day or so before the First Look.
In the most epic fashion, too.

We're all arguing whether it'll be Zulu or Ghana or something and Karmah pops in and just says, "It's Nubia" and disappears.

it was a true mic drop moment.

There may be more such moments in the future.
I hope so, but doubt there will be for R&F. Scenes from the trailer could hint at Georgia and/or Portugal. The lack of Italian city states suggests Italy. The Ottomans, Zulu, and Inca are series mainstays; no one would be too surprised by any of them or Byzantium or Mali.

The Cree are the only true surprise so far, but 2k China messed up the surprise part.

There could be another surprise civ, but I expect the remaining four unknown civs to be among the eight in the first paragraph above.

I think that if Georgia is really in, then they were hoping the scenes in the trailer were too obscure and they would revel in how cleverly they hid it in plain sight once they reveal it.

Personally I think we were all expecting a Native North American civ so even though the Cree are new to civ they are still less as a surprise than Georgia (if they are in) will be for the general public.
We have watched every inch of the trailer and recognized the clothing and fortress of the soldiers fighting the Mongols, but 95% of the general public have no clue about that or who Tamar (as a meme) is.

Look at the current clue, we knew that Chandragupta Maurya was already leaked from China so immediately knew it was about him.
But on Facebook/Twitter/Youtube people were immediately convinced it was Byzantium.

I think there will be a huge surprise for the final civ because we will get the alt leader halfway through these reveals. I don't know if Georgia will fit in (She might show up as second to the last civ). I seriously hope we get a civ that we are not expecting as the final reveal.

I don't see Georgia in this expansion at all, unfortunately Tamar remains a Civ Forum legend.
