[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

They could give Mehmed a bonus that is useful for conquering but not a strict military bonus. Since he rebuilt Constantinople/Istanbul he could get a bonus to repair and growth in conquered cities for x number of turns after conquest.

The "Cappadocia" formations appeared on the original cover art too. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Are you sure? The original art images with "Atlas" and "The Thinker" in the background that I am seeing don't have those same rock formations as the new "Discus Man" artwork? I still think it's a vague hint at the Ottomans/Turkey, as opposed to a hint at a Natural Wonder. But I DO think it's a hint.

I think Firaxis will go with someone else for the Ottoman leader, as iconic as Suleiman is.
There's plenty of other good choices for the Ottomans, not just Suleiman the Magnificent.

If Firaxis decided to use Suleiman again, there's a good chance he would be based on the namesake Turkish television drama character: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhteşem_Yüzyıl

Murad IV would be a "big personality" for sure.

And maybe we'll recieve a woman leader :p

Were there even any notable Ottoman female leaders? Excuse my ignorance but I can’t think of any.

Not too familiar with him, but he seems like a good choice for leader.

Murad IV also banned alcohol, tobacco, and coffee in Istanbul.[3] He ordered execution for breaking this ban.[4] He would reportedly patrol the streets and the lowest taverns of Istanbul in civilian clothes at night, policing the enforcement of his command by casting off his disguise on the spot and beheading the offender with his own hands.[5] Rivaling the exploits of Selim the Grim, he would sit in a kiosk by the water near his Seraglio Palace[5] and shoot arrows at any boat man who rowed too close to his imperial compound. ...Historians including Halil İnalcık as well as primary sources report that even though he was a ruthless supporter of alcohol prohibition, Murad IV was a habitual drinker himself.

Seems a bit loony to me.

Roxelana would be the only viable option, married to Suleiman although she is somewhat controversial among the Turks.

I don't think Firaxis would put a female as the Ottoman leader. The outrage towards that would probably be even greater than that towards Seondeok, and Wilhelmina. We got Genghis leading the Mongols again instead of a female like Mandukhai, so I expect the same for the Ottomans.

That would be a great idea for an edict for a future expansion similar to BNW.
Please, no. :cringe: I hated it in BNW when the AI would just arbitrarily ban a luxury. That would be even more cruel in Civ6, especially now that amenities not just affect happiness but also loyalty.

I suspect the only thing to cause greater ragestorm than the pick of Roxolana would be inclusion of Georgia at the expense of Ottomans or Inca.

Seriously, has Tamar Fever gained traction anywhere outside of CivFanatics?

It could work, but the resource system would have to be reworked in some way. (e.g. allow the player to craft their own (untradeable) luxuries using bonus resources such as Mirrors, Brass and Perfume to offset the loss of banned "natural" luxuries such as Ivory, Furs or Whales.)

And I'll assert again, some of us wanted her long before she became a meme. ;)

Honestly, manufactured luxuries should be a thing anyway. True, there are a lot of important natural luxuries, but historically speaking manufactured goods have been equally significant. Clear glass was so central to the Tyrian economy that it became a state industry and sharing its secrets was punishable by death. (Spoiler: the secret got out. :p )
