Rise and Rule for Civ3:Conquests

On a different subject, have you considered giving "Enslave" capability to Barbarian units? Three possibilities:

1) The killing unit would have a chance to replicate itself.

2) The killing unit could generate a different, more powerful unit that Barbarians normally can't build - Corsairs, Keshiks, Kensai, etc.

3) It could generate some god-awful "Horde-caliber" unit that would be so overpowered there'd be little to stop it from marching into your empire and destroying anything in it's path. My puny city defenders tremble at the mere thought!

Barbarians give me enough trouble as it is. :( So leave them alone, please.

Does anyone know if there is a version of Kal El's huge earth map for rise and rule? If not, are there any large earth maps that work with Rise and Rule?

Well, that takes all the fun out of warmongering!

As Doc T. said build Armies. There are a number of small wonders that allow you to build them. So it is possible to have a few cities building the Army at the same time. Also they are not expensive. In addition a couple of wonders auto-generate them every 30 turns.

You will see the AI have several Armies with tanks, gunships etc in them. :)

The only limit to the number you can build is one Army per two Cities. Personnally I would like to see that increased to either 3 or 4 Cities. But that is just my personal preference. :)

To few cities to support an Army makes it easier as your Nation gets bigger. Where as more cities per Army makes it harder if you only have a few cities.

Is there an improvement in RaR which multiplies the effect of multiple luxuries? (like the normal marketplace in C3C) :)

Yes it is the Shopping Mall and comes with Mass Media a tech in the early Modern Times.

The reason we took it away from the Market place was because of the sheer number of luxury resources you get in R&R (and in fact DyP). Each one gives you Happiness and there are 15. This made the original Marketplace unbalancing. By the time you can build the Shopping Mall you will probably only need it in a few Cities. I rarely build it. :)

Yes Jarrett has produced a 180 *180 Map. It is in final testing for Civ and resouce placement and overall game balance. It will be available soon.

No, check again. But even if it were, Magna Carta would still be occurring about 1/3 of an era too late.

The Magna Carta comes with Constitutional Monarchy in R&R.

In RL it was meant to reduce the effect of Absolute Monarchy. But in RL nothing really happened for Centuries after it was signed apart from small changes that improved the life of the Barrons etc. who enforced it. The general public - peasants did not benifit at all.

So maybe we should call the Improvement - "The Principle of the Magna Carta". :king: or may be not!. :goodjob:

Unrelated question:

I looked through the Civilopedia, and saw that Self-Propelled Artillery has a defense of 8. But it upgrades to Radar Artillery, which has a defense of 4.. Did you intend for it to be this way or is it an oversight?

On another Civilopedia related note, the National Sports League says you need 5 Colliseums, when you actually need 5 Arenas.

Thanks again!

@ self-propelled/radar artillery: Cannot imagine how it should be intended. And the hitpoint bonus is as usual for the modern new unit higher.
Thanks for reporting.Added to to bug list.

@ civilopedia: It is under construction and an update with the next RaR patch is likely (and I agree goverments are one of the most importnt parts, since exacts stats are very important here and the stats aren't autogenerated like it is for some basic unit stats).Feel encouraged to post everything missing/incorrect/broken linked you find, it is the best way to help us (perhaps not the things which are already mentioned on the last few pages of the thread, but I understand it is annoying to browse the entire thread to see if something is already reportet ;) ) A list of broken links would be especially helpful.

Here is the list so far (i'am still playing v1.00):
The list in in order of Ages, then alphabeticly:

Ancient Age:
- Spearman -> Link to the Eastern Spearman is invalid (should be Arabian Spearman I think)
- Serf -> wrong description (PTW not for Conquests)

- Circus Maximus -> Error in the Splash (says it doubles the effect of colliseums instead of Arena's)
- Collossus -> Error in the Splash (wrong expiring technology)
- Sphinx -> Error in the Splash (wrong expiring technology)

Medival Age:
- Free Artistry -> Typo in Link to a Wonder
- Juris Prudence -> Missing comment on Royal Tournament going obsolete
- Leadership -> Link to Sun Tzu's Art of War is invalid
- Matchlock -> Link to Temple of Zeus is invalid

- Arquebusier -> wrong description (says it's for Defence instead of Offense)
- Hwach'a -> wrong description or wrong stats (it does replace Cannon not Arquebusier)
- King's Guard -> Typo in Link
- Musketeer -> wrong description or wrong stats

- Arc the Triomphe -> wrong description
- International Port -> wrong description
- Military Academy -> wrong description

Industrial Age:
- Theory of Evolution -> wrong Picture (not shown at all)

Modern Age:
- National Sports League -> Wrong Requirements (Colliseums instead of Arena's)

Thats all I found so far. I will finish my current game, then update to V1.01 und go on with checking.
Also I noticed a few other things.
1.) Please change the graphic of the Arabian Pikeman (it's a goblin for havens sake  ). There is an excellent replacement-unit from Dom Perdo II. It can be found here on the forum.

2.) In the same Thread you can also found an archer for the arabian civ's, since they didn't use the Crossbow to much.

3.) The Musketman is wrongly centered. There is a corrected version out on the Net. I don't have a link right now, but I can supply the zip.

Thanks for the list, although it will be necessary to see what is already fixed with the recent civilopedia update (see page before).

@Peffersack: I've checked the list using the new civiliopedia files (playing RAR V1.005 :D ).

Most of the errors remain.

Here is the new list. I've also changed the order of the list (civiliopedia category, then Alphabet) to make it easier to find:

Governments (completely checked):
- Fascism -> wrong Police limit (it's 4 in the new bic, but 3 in Pedia)
- Republic -> Trade Bonus is not mentioned
- Theocracy -> wrong Maintenance in text (Data is correct, but in the desc it says that maintenance is zero)
- Theocracy -> Corruption level is wrong

Units:
- Arquebusier -> wrong description (says it's for Defence instead of Offense)
- Hwach'a -> wrong description or wrong stats (it does replace Cannon not Arquebusier)
- King's Guard -> wrong description (say's not implemented)
- Musketeer -> wrong description (will update to musketman and not retained)
- Spearman -> Link to the Eastern Spearman is invalid (should be Arabian Spearman I think)

Technology:
- Free Artistry -> Typo in Link to a Wonder (Blank)
- Juris Prudence -> Missing comment on Royal Tournament going obsolete
- Matchlock -> Link to Temple of Zeus is invalid
- Naval Aviation -> Link to Clausewitz on War is invalid
- Theory of Evolution -> wrong Picture (not shown at all)

Wonders (includes also the splashes):
- Circus Maximus -> Error in the Splash (says it doubles the effect of colliseums instead of Arena's)
- Citzen Itza -> Link to Temples in description is invalid
- Collossus -> Error in the Splash (wrong expiring technology)
- National Sports League -> Wrong Requirements (Colliseums instead of Arena's)
- Silk Road -> Link to Silk in description is invalid
- Sphinx -> Error in the Splash (wrong expiring technology)

Worker Jobs (completely checked):
- Barricade -> Picture is wrong (there is one in Conquest, but RAR shows a "?")
- Worker Camp -> Link to the Desert-Terrain is wrong
- Worker Camp -> wrong data for Forest & Jungle (it says 2, but the value in the bic is 1)

All the Rest:
- War Weariness -> there is the wrong corruption level for ConMon

Thats all for now. I will post a complete Set of Errors on your Forum tomorrow and try to maintain it afterwards. Also I will try to open a Thread on new graphics.

Also one more thing. I don't know if it's a bug but ..
I build several Dragoons today. They carry a gun, have defensive bombardment, but don't require salpeter.

Thanks for your efforts again; I will update the civilopedia-thread in the non-official beta-tester-forum at CDG with your findings.Feel free to post at cdgroup.org if you like, but of course I will take care of postings here anyway (so there is no urgent need for another list, but again we all appreciate your input very much!)

@ Dragoon/salpeter: The reason for such constellations is ressources get quite abundant over time and this is represented by the fact they disappear as prequesites.
For the same reasons modern tanks, ships and planes don't need iron, although in RL they are mainly made out of iron.

The Taj Mahal (@ 1630 AD) becomes available with the the discovery of "Steam Engines" (@ 1769 AD). Although the period differential is less than that of the misplaced Magna Carta, in some ways it's even odder since there's no connection whatsoever between Steam Engines and the Taj! Suggest this wonder be moved back in time to the mid-Renaissance period, and placed under the "Architecture" advance.

Thanks for all that info Ghostmaker - much appreciated.

Taj Mahal started construction in 1630 - completed in 1653.

Steam Engine, first sucessfull one in 1712 by Thomas Newcomen. There where earlier versions circa 1698, but not so reliable. The 1769 engine was an improvement on Newcomen's by James Watt. He compressed steam outside the cylinder - thus saving energy. etc. etc. Yawn - :p

Kal-el said:
The Taj Mahal was completed in 1653, the steam engine was invented in 1698. The reason the two are connected in RaR is mainly for the sake of the tech screen.

Two techs prior to "Steam Engine" is a tech called "Steam Power", which one would assume constitutes the earlier, inefficient engines (i.e. 1698). Hence the later reference to "engines" would imply those from the late 1700's. But no matter what the rationale, there's just no way Magna Carta and the Taj Mahal can even remotely be considered "Industrial Era" Wonders of the World.

Don't get me wrong - R&R is a great mod! (Which is why historical disconnects really stick out like a sore thumb.)
