There's a seed input on one of the setup screens (top right I think - I only play PbEM these days so can't quite remember). Make sure that you don't have anything in there or it will always use the same random seed which will always guarantee that you get the same map.

That was it! I kept sticking in 7 because I thought it was asking me for the number of AI opponents. Heh, I knew it would be something simple. I'll be sure to leave in zero from now on.

secondly: i cant seem to upgrade some of my units.. they are in the same city and i've got plenty of money.. i could upgrade some arquebusier to musketman but not all of them..
